Lanniya stretched beside F'lin, giving a groan of pleasure as her
muscles pulled. In an excellent mood, she sat up, spun her legs around
and half-walked, half-danced to his table in search of the bread and
cheese that had been laid there. Her bare bottom bounced merrily to
the tune she hummed and completely unconcerned with her nakedness, she
picked at the various cheeses. She was enjoying her time with F'lin
more and more; the man could certainly leave her spinning and
breathless. They never seemed to be able to take their time at first,
a thought that she found exciting and a little amusing. She glanced up
as she wiggled her hips, wondering for a brief moment where he had
flung her dress, then shrugging it off as unimportant.
F'lin lay on his stomach with his chin resting on his hands, enjoying
watching her. "You found enough to eat? Or should I see if the
kitchens can send something else up?"
"Nah, this should be enough. For now." She shot a rather naughty grin
at him, picked up a hunk of cheese, and nibbled at it. She poured a
glass of wine and then, still humming, slipped back to the bed and
sat beside him, legs crossed with her feet tucked under. She looked
down at him and offered him a bite of her cheese. "Want any?"
He smiled and took the morsel from her. "So who gets better cheese--
Dolphin Cove Weyr or Dragonsfall Weyr?"
"Oh, you guys do. Hands down. " She happily chewed on another piece.
"I've got some news you might be interested in." She peered down at
him. "But it hasn't been announced yet."
"Oh yeah?" F'lin rolled onto his side. "Something's up at Dragonsfall Weyr?"
Lanniya shook her head. "No." She tilted Hey head to study him. "You
can't say anything, though, okay? They're looking to build another
Weyr for River Bluff's area. We're stretched too thin trying to cover
all the territory."
F'lin tensed and sat upright. Another Weyr in River Bluff-- that
territory was _his_. Immediately he started running over the map of
the land in his mind, trying to think where another Weyr might
feasibly be built. "Where?"
As he sat up, she saw the tension setting in his shoulders, wondering
if he was upset, excited or both. She had known the information would
be important to him. "I don't know for certain yet." She sipped at her
wine, "I don't know that they've found a place yet, but I do know that
they're looking south of where Riverbluff was. Near the mountains, I
think. When it starts or they find a place, are you going to go?"
"Yes," he said simply. The chance to go home... he wondered if Topaz
Sea Hold would tithe to the new Weyr as well. He wondered, distantly,
what his mother would think. What his grandmother would think... was
Tsaera part of the Survey team? "Would you?"
She had thought about it from the moment that she'd heard. "F'lin, for
all that I ride a gold, I don't get to really choose where I go. You
know that. They'll want an older, more experienced goldrider and
since Anaeryth is due to rise in a few months... they're not going to
take a chance of me being senior. They may even call for a goldrider
up North. But it won't be me. Anaeryth is too young and me? I'm not
even a Wingthird, F'lin. I've screwed up to much and the Leaders know
it."
He reached out to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Maybe.
And maybe you go later. It's more difficult for goldriders, but it's
not impossible to get where you want to be."
"Eventually, I guess." She offered a crooked smile. "But you know, I
think you should go to wherever they build it. It might mean less time
with me though. But just think, if you go, you can help build from the
ground up. It'll really be something to be proud of." She frowned at a
thought. "You're still coming, right? When Anaeryth rises?"
"Just let me know when-- well, let Seneth know." He grinned at that.
Two good things-- perhaps he'd get his Weyr back, and maybe this time
Seneth would win a gold flight. "You know we'll drop everything to
come. Think Anaeryth will let us win?"
She studied him and suddenly a sick thought made her stomach coil into
knots. "I don't know. She doesn't get a lot of attention from bronzes,
really. They stick to Onnyth and Chioneth." She frowned at the grin.
"F'lin, you're not just spending time with me because I ride a gold, are you?"
"No." He tucked another bit of her hair back from her face. "I want
you here because I like you. Even when you drive me crazy. Maybe
especially then."
"But it wouldn't be the same if I'd Impressed a green, would it?"
Lanniya pointed out softly, leaning her cheek against his hand. "I do
want Seneth to catch her, F'lin. But it'll be up to her. I don't
really know what she likes in a mate. She's only risen the once." She
then gave a lop-sided grin and swatted his shoulder. "Why is it that
you're the only one I drive crazy? I'm not that bad."
F'lin rubbed his 'injured' shoulder. "Maybe I'm just the only one who
is brave enough to tell you that?" he asked innocently.
She mock scowled at him. "Or maybe you're the only one that makes me
drive them crazy. " She poked at his chest. "Cause you're awfully
frustrating sometimes. You're just as bad as me and don't..." she
poked his side, "you deny it."
"Nah," he said, denying it. "I'm amazing." He flexed his biceps and
struck a pose.
That brought a giggle. "Uh huh. You are." She sat her drink and cheese
on his side table then rose, pushing him back down to straddle his
waist crosswise on the bed. "But you said I was too. About a
candlemark ago." Her eyes glinted merrily. "When I used my mouth. You
said I was great, amazing, talented..." She tapped on her lips,
appearing to think. "So...I think I win."
He ran his hands up her thighs, enjoying the softness of her skin against his calloused fingers. Her hair fell in a coppery curtain around her pale shoulders and her freckles were constellations he very much wanted to learn to navigate by. She was beautiful. "If this is losing, then I'm just fine with it," F'lin said, and he meant it.
