B'ram

B'ram

B'ram was completely relaxed as he lay on his back, his head pillowed on
one arm while the other was curled around the woman next to him. He was
barely aware when the body next to him shifted, but he awoke with a
smile as he felt the unmistakably wonderful feeling of kisses across his
chest. "Shards, Atreyn, but Flights are always better when it's one of
yours," he mumbled contentedly.

She tossed her long, blonde hair carelessly over a shoulder, her gray
eyes glinting with cheerful lust as she gazed down at him. "Well, of
course, B'ram. Onesanth makes the boys run for their marks." She
lowered her lips to linger teasingly over his. "In fact," she breathed
against his mouth, "she makes them work so hard that the anticipation
builds..." a kiss, "and builds..." another kiss, "and builds til the
desire is just too much..." The tip of her tongue darted out to lick
his lower lip.

"Like dragon like rider," B'ram whispered, teasingly nipping at her jaw
in retaliation. "Only you don't seem to need a Flight to do that to me.
Although, it doesn't hurt."

Atreyn grinned at him. "Surely you could do more with your mouth than
that?"

"Uh huh. I could do a lot more," B'ram agreed in a teasingly mild voice
as he slowly moved his lips down her neck. His fingers began tracing
long, slow lines along her spine. He loved prolonging things with
Atreyn, especially when he knew that they both were feeling the
after-effects of the flight. There was something beyond the
dragon-induced lust that they both felt - a true desire for the
greenrider as a woman, a friend, as well as a lover. He wasn't working
off some extra energy on an acquaintance in the flight room. It was
making love with an extra little edge to it.

"Mmm... That feels very nice, brownrider... But maybe you should put
your hand _here_ instead." Atreyn shifted until she was draped partly
over him, then she scooted down his body, her lips trailing low to the
line of his abdomen. Shards...she was so glad it was he who'd won
Onesanth's flight again.

"Shell cracks and crack dust. I sure love you, Atreyn," B'ram whispered
as his fingers tangled in her hair. It wasn't some off-handed remark
made in the heat of the moment. He did love her, and he had told her so
many times. They had been lovers since the first time Girifith caught
Onesanth, and since that time only his brown had caught her green.
Though they had both had other lovers, for the past few months it seemed
that he spent more nights together with her than he had with any other
woman, and he liked it that way. He liked the way she could make him
feel with just a look, just a touch.

Her touch turned more tender at his words, and she bestowed a gentle
kiss to his navel before lifting her face to look at him. She searched
his eyes, a smile whispering across her lips. "I love you too." It
wasn't the first time she'd told him so, but it was the first time that
something more flickered in her dark eyes. Something more...

B'ram searched her eyes for a moment. She was so beautiful and soft and
feisty and strong and... perfect. He reached down and with
his muscular arms pulled her light frame along his body until she was
looking down straight into his face. "Atreyn, I don't want any other
woman but you. I really don't. We have spent so much time together
these past few months. We're practically weyrmated as it is. Have you
ever thought..." He searched her eyes for any hint of what was going on
deep down inside her, any encouragement at all. It was best to just say
it. "Have you ever thought of making this a permanent arrangement?"

"A permanent..." her soft voice trailed off as she searched his eyes.
For a moment, all she could do was gaze down at him as the words slowly
sank in. Then a slow smile began to curve her lips.

"Think about it," he whispered, his eyes pleading with her as his
fingers traced along her sides. "It could be like this every day. We
can eat together, bathe together, make love, fall asleep and wake up and
do it again. _Everyday_."

"Mmmm..." She bent her head so her lips were touching his ear, her long
hair falling about them, shielding them from the outside. "With so much
temptation in front of me, how can I say no?" She smiled before kissing
him there, nuzzling against the curve of his neck.

B'ram rolled over on top of her, elated that she would agree to chose
him. To chose _only_ him. He had never felt so much love and it
overflowed into the kisses he covered her body in. Despite the
dragonlust that just added to their passion, they took their time. When
at last all their energy was spent, they fell asleep in each other's
arms. B'ram drifted off with a contented smile on lips. Atreyn would
chose _him_! And he would take care of her, protect her, he would never
lie to her or hurt her in any way. He would prove his love and devotion
to her every day, and he would never fail to make her feel loved. That
was the silent promise he made as he dreamed of what it would be like
falling asleep like this every night and waking up like this every
morning. He had given her half his heart, and took half of hers in
return, and now the two had become one.

He thought he had kept that promise every day for two and a half
turns. Until the day she ripped his heart out of her chest and threw it
back in his face.

And now there she stood, saying his name looking at him with those deep
grey eyes. He remembered every fleck in them, every line around them.
For two and a half turns he had looked into them and seen only love and
warmth. But maybe he had only seen what he wanted to see. How else
could he have missed the fact that the love that shone in her eyes was
no longer meant for him?

The green eyes that had softened to look at her longingly at the sound
of voice saying his name - and oh shards, how he had always loved
hearing her say his name - turned hard and cold as he remembered the
hurt, the agonizing pain that he had felt when she ended it. He hadn't
even seen it coming. She had covered her trail so expertly.

Now, she had come and tricked him yet again. And yet again, she had an
accomplice. Eyes that burned with a growing fire of hate flickered up
to Traelyn's. Shard it all, but they were the same sharding grey eyes
looking back at him. She and Atreyn both shared the same eyes, the same
smile, the same deceitful nature.

Well, he would not play this game for them. He would not throw his
heart down for them both to snicker at. B'ram had learned well. This
game ended _now_. The brownrider still had some of his pride! It was
all Atreyn had left him, and shard it all, she could not have it!

He turned on his heal and stepped back out the door. With one more
wounded, hateful glare thrust directly at his former weyrmate, he
grabbed the knob and slammed the door shut with a ferocious burst of
strength. Even before the echo of the thunderous crack the door had
made as it painfully slammed into its door jam could finish
reverberating along cold stone walls, and even before his fingers had a
chance to leave the knob, the tears started to burn his eyes, an all too
familiar rotting, aching despair and emptiness began to fill his heart.
