Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 12 of Turn 9
It had been a busy but rewarding day. During the morning candlemarks, she had assisted a few of the bakercrafters in the kitchen, and then in the afternoon she had worked to clean and assist in the weavercrafter's work room. Both experiences had been rewarding, but one had left her with a definite direction that she wanted to pursue. Returning to the weyr she shared with Tener, she cleaned up, and glanced at the timepiece, knowing he should be returning soon.
Tener was not precisely on time according to the time piece, but he was close enough to it that it was clear he came straight home. When he entered their shared quarters, he went from a frown to a smile immediately on seeing Ayressa.
"Hey," he breathed tiredly, pulling her into a hug.
Ayressa buried her face in his shoulder, breathing in his comforting, familiar sent. Even though she didn't regret leaving Green Valley, things at the Weyr were still somewhat new and different, but Tener was always the constant that she could depend on. "How was your day?" she asked.
"Tiring," Tener answered, but he sound more pleased than perturbed. "Mind and body. Class with the weyrlingmasters and then work in the forge." He did his best not to complain about Ayressa's cousin, the forgemaster back home. But it was a great load off of his shoulders to be working under a master who treated him fairly.
"How about you?" he asked, holding her close.
"It was a very good day," she said, her smile evidence in the tone of her voice. "I think I have decided what I would like to pursue as a craft."
"That's fantastic!" Tener said, squeezing his wife excitedly. "Well, tell, tell, what is it?" he asked, smiling from ear to ear.
"I've decided I would like to go into the...." she drummed her fingers on his shoulders, building the tension, "weavercraft!" After being with the weavers in the workroom and seeing the beautiful things that they could create from scraps of cloth, she knew that it was what she wanted to do. She already knew how to do some basic things, such as simple embroidery, or mending socks, and adding patches to clothing. All of those skills had been things she'd been taught as a hold girl.
"A perfect choice, of course," said Tener, lifting his wife to spin her around once. "I'm so proud of you!" he said. How many holdmen could say their wives were going to be proper crafters?
Ayressa laughed, she'd been so excited to tell him that she'd thought about it all afternoon. "I can only imagine my father's face when he finds out. He'll be livid, even more so than when we left." That caused her smile to fade slightly as she rolled her eyes.
"I can see it now, his face when we climb down from my dragon with your Weaver's masterwork in hand," said Tener, actually more thrilled at the idea than he expected to be. A chance to show them all how much more they had become than anyone believed they could.
"Perhaps I will wear a pair of _pants_ when we visit." Ayressa waggled her eyebrows daringly, barely suppressing a giggle at the thought of her mother's face.
"His eyes will pop right out of his head!" said Tener, laughing out loud. He gave Ayressa a bit of a tickle at her side just above her hip. "Have you got some to wear already, or will you make them yourself?" he asked, smiling. Of course, they could buy some, but that was beside the point.
"The Headwoman gave me a couple pairs from the supply room, she said that sometimes they're just more practical around the Weyr for things we have to do." Ayressa said, and then, pressing up more closely against Tener she purred, "I could put a pair on for you."
Tener grinned. He could never resist that purr. He leaned in and kissed her softly, then again, and one more time.
"I would be more than happy to see the way your hips and backside move when you walk, my beautiful wife," he said huskily. "Let's see."
Ayressa's eyes smoldered as she held up one finger and then dashed into their tiny bedroom to change into the breeches. When she returned, her long, golden hair had been loosened from its single braid and splayed about her shoulders in soft waves. She'd kicked off her shoes so that she was in her bare feet, and she'd cast aside her blouse and skirt for the skin tight breeches, which were the _only_ article of clothing that she wore.
"What do you think?" She asked, reappearing in the door way.
Tener's eyes widened and he whistled, clearly impressed. He let his gaze wander up and down a few times.
"I think it must be hotter in here than it was in the forge," he said, grinning from ear to ear. "Ashes, but you're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, Ressa." He moved toward her to embrace and kiss her again.
Ayressa smiled, wrapping her arms around Tener's waist as she tilted her face up for his kisses. "And you're a Candidate who looks like he really needs to unwind. Let me help," her fingers hooked into his belt, pulling him back toward their bed.
Tener bit his lip and groaned. "My love, I can't imagine being a luckier man," he rasped, following her lead eagerly.
