Description: Two weyrlings face what the morning will bring...
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 3 of Turn 3
D'ren finished checking his straps for the third time and drummed his fingers on the table. **Could you ask Aosorath if his is busy?**
}:My rider would like to know if yours is busy,:{ Menanth relayed to the blue.
}:No. He's brooding again. It would be good for him to get out of the Weyr. I will bring him to you.:{
D'cal was happy to have something to do other than think about Dyaera and Zanie... and even B'vin. He patted Aosorath's neck effectionately and gave him a silent thanks for the ride.
}:You were invited. Who else would bring you?:{ Aosorath asked, indignant that his rider had even thought to thank him for doing something that was obviously the little blue's right.
"D'ren?"
"Hi," the bronzerider said with a small smile. "Are you as nervous as I am?"
"Yeah, I suppose," D'cal nodded. "You do seem pretty nervous." He would have been embarrassed to say that he actually hadn't been thinking much about the Blooding, though he knew the next day he would. It would be _all_ he could think about. He was going to be flying Aosorath in between flaming dragons and tangles of Thread. That thought brought a shudder down the bluerider's spine.
D'ren nodded. "I keep telling myself not to worry so much, but after the disaster, it's hard _not_ to think of what could go wrong." His memory of that day was still fresh. Dragons and riders screaming in pain, healers running around franticly as they tried to save them. The awful keening, and not knowing if Dysali and Dyaera were okay.
"Yeah," D'cal nodded. So many were _still_ recovering from that disaster. "But that was not the way it was supposed to be. That day... well, _everything_ was messed up.
"I know. But it could get messed up again. _I_ could mess up," the bronzerider sighed.
}:We will do well,:{ Menanth assured him.
"We have been trained well," D'cal reminded D'ren. "And all the other dragonriders survived it. Are they so much better than we are?"
"No," D'ren said. "And you're right. We have been well trained, and we even have extra training."
"If you think about it, our chances of survival is much higher than any of the weyrling classes before us. Not only do we have the extra training, but we have all their knowledge and experience to draw from."
"That's true. Maybe we'll all get though this fine. Maybe our whole class will make it unscathed." D'ren didn't really believe that, but it was still something to hope for.
"That bronze of yours, he'll take care of you," D'cal smiled. "He's the best bronze in the class."
}:I am!:{ Menanth said.
"Menanth agrees," D'ren laughed. "And although I might be biased, I think Aosorath is best blue in class. You two are a fantastic pair, and I'm glad we finally have a Weyrlingmaster that recognizes it."
D'cal smiled. "We'll be good wingriders, you and I."
"The best!" D'ren said. Although he was still nervous, he felt much better about the trial they would face tomorrow.
