Alina
Saidrene

Saidrene

Saidrene's mind was buzzing and there was only one person she could imagine talking to- Alina. **Will you see if Imarith's is home?** she asked Ashareth, even as she turned toward her friend's weyr.

}:She is there,:{ Ashareth confirmed. Needing no further invitation, Saidrene pushed through the hide-cover of Alina's weyr. "Alina?" she called.

"Hi, Saidrene." Alina glanced up from where she was sweeping. There was a neat little pile of dirt and canine fur ready to be picked up and dumped off Imarith's ledge. She smiled in welcome, brushed the pile of dirt against the wall and leaned the broom up beside it. "I wasn't expecting to see you today."

The greenrider stopped, momentarily sidetracked as she looked at the tufts of hair that were being cleaned up. "That canine, he sheds more than any I have ever seen." Saidrene knew Stumpy's clumps of hair from anywhere since she had helped sweep them out of J'ackt's weyr before.

"Another thing my mother was right about: animals belong _outside_ the cot." Alina sat gratefully on the edge of her bed and gestured for Saidrene to join her. The canine in question had been locked in J'ackt's weyr while she cleaned. "My little brother used to try to sneak baby animals in all the time. It drove her crazy - and now I can _really_ see why."

Saidrene piled onto the end of the bed, legs crisscrossed, in her usual spot. "So you are never going to believe who I was with last night." Her eyes gleamed.

"Mmmm..." Alina gazed at the ceiling as she played along, pretending to be deep in thought. "Your mother. For a tea party. Definitely."

"Ha. Ha." Saidrene snatched up one of Alina's pillows and thwapped her upside the shoulder with it. "Guess for real," she grinned.

"Uh..." Alina tried to think through which of the men that had caught Saidrene's eye the greenrider had most likely snagged. Then she shook her head. "The way you're looking at me, whoever I guess is going to be wrong."

"K'ran!!" Saidrene squealed, unable to wait another moment.

Alina's eyes widened. "Wait, what!? Your _Wingleader_?!"

"Yes!" Saidrene's smile was all teeth. "I mean, you know he won Ashareth's last flight and it was _good_." The greenrider's voice took on a conspiratorial tone, even though they were alone. "So last night I just showed up at his weyr, and when he opened the door I just... kissed him!"

The other greenrider shook her head, amazed by Saidrene's boldness. "And then what happened? Did he say anything?"

"Just my name," Saidrene said with an insinuating smolder in her eyes. "I had prepared to be reprimanded, you know, but the Wingleader had zero complaints."

"I can't believe that you seduced your _Wingleader_." Alina shook her head, then lowered her voice to match Saidrene. "You said _he_ had zero complaints, but are you as happy as you were after Ashareth's flight?"

"Girl," Saidrene closed her eyes as if remembering, "it was so good. I mean, I know it must be a surprise because it was to me. He seems so quiet and straight-laced but let me tell you, there is a fire burning beneath that placid exterior."

Alina pursed her lips. "You're right about this being a surprise. He's..." she shrugged, searching for the right word and eventually giving up. "...I don't know. I never really thought you'd give him a second glance outside of a flight."

"Why not?" Saidrene cocked her head to the side.

"He's kind of... short?" Alina held out her hands to forestall Saidrene's protest. "But more importantly, he's your Wingleader!"

"He is a little short," Saidrene admitted, "but he's got reach, if you know what I mean." A saucy wink followed.

Alina rolled her eyes. "So is this going to become a thing?"

"I don't know," Saidrene said, her tone a bit more serious. "It's not as if we've talked much about it. I sort of just slipped out of his weyr last night after he fell asleep. I'll see him today at Wing drills."

"Do you _want_ it to become a thing?" Alina asked curiously.

"Honestly, Alina? I don't know. Right now it is fun and it's passionate, but I don't even know if we have anything in common other than, well, a healthy sexual appetite," she laughed. "I am actually a little nervous about seeing him today."

"I bet he is too." Alina grinned wickedly. "You snuck out on him! Who _knows_ what you might be saying to your wingmates about your night together!"

Saidrene gasped, eyes lighting. "I didn't even think of that! He never struck me as the rule breaking type, I was fully prepared for him to slam the door in my face."

"But you went anyway?" The other greenrider flipped her braid over her shoulder and began running the end of it over her fingertips. "You had to have known that there was a chance that he'd let you in. You had to."

"Well, I mean, there was definitely some chemistry between us during our catching drill, so I just... hoped." She had hoped but in the same way as when she'd had a crush on N'vanik when she and Alina had first Impressed.

Alina shook her head. Saidrene was so _good_ at men: knowing what they wanted, and knowing that she was wanted. She admired it and was intimidated by her friend's skill. It seemed so natural to Saidrene. "That had to be some serious chemistry."

"It was," she grinned. "There's something about the thrill of falling through the air and then being caught by an extremely attractive man. I mean, we had already shared Ashareth's flight just a couple of days before so the interest was already there, at least on my part."

"And clearly on his." Alina paused. "Think he'll say anything about it at drills?"

"I don't know, but speaking of, I'd better get going. I was planning on running by the infirmary to check in on J'ackt before drills," Saidrene admitted.

Her heart gave a little flip at J'ackt's name. Alina nodded and pretended it hadn't happened. "Thanks for stopping by and letting me in on your little secret!"

"Of course," Saidrene said as she unfolded her legs and stood. "You could come visit me some, you know."

Alina flipped the tip of her braid over her fingertips and managed a bit of a smile. "I do. I've been a bit of a hermit lately."

"Yes, you have been. Now, if I don't see you in my weyr by next Restday I'm barging back over here... Although you may want to knock before you walk into my weyr." Saidrene winked and flashed a smile before wiggling her fingers. "I'll see you soon, Al!" she called as she hurried out of the weyr. She still had to pay J'ackt a visit and get to wingdrills on time.

Alina waved goodbye and picked up her broom to finish sweeping. She did her best not to think about J'ackt in the Infirmary, and failed.
