J'ackt

He patted Stumpy on the rump, then pushed him aside as he flopped back
on his bed. The canine, still awkward in his youth, but getting
massive, grumbled as he took over J'ackt's pillow and promptly fell
back asleep. J'ackt didn't notice. Instead, he stared at the ceiling.
He really should be oiling his straps. Or practicing with the new
sword. But didn't feel like doing much more than relearning the pits
and rough texture of his fecking ceiling.

The texture of his ceiling only increased his own poor mood. With a
frown, he kicked off his boots, tossing them on top of the shirt that
he'd already shrugged off. He'd pick them up later. The ceiling was
still that grey-brown color. He scowled at it.

Zith sighed. He'd had enough of the broody. }: Ashareth? Can Yours
come for a visit? Mine has been staring at his ceiling for a week
every night and he might need a good swift kick in his bottom. Yours'
feet might fit. :{

}:I'll send her over,:{ Ashareth told her clutchmate.

"What's this I hear about someone lounging around staring at the
ceiling?" Saidrene asked, hazel eyes dancing as she walked through
J'ackt's weyr. She could have navigated the place with her eyes
closed, she'd been there so often.

"Shaffit, Zith! You fecking interfering..." He sighed and lifted his
head to scowl at Saidrene. "It's nothing. Zith shouldn't have bothered
you." He forced himself to sit up and ran a hand through his hair as
he turned to the weyrledge. "You and me are gonna have a talk,
dragon." The only response he got was a snort. "Stumpy, go pester
Zith." Stumpy didn't even bother to open his eyes and just gave his
tail a single wag before going back to sleep. "Feck it. Neither of
them list to me."

"Maybe it's because underneath all of that angst," she pointed at his
face, "they know you love them." Saidrene draped herself into her
usual chair.

He snorted and eyed her. "You know, you're going to come in one day
without knocking and I'm going to be stark naked or something." He
fell back on the bed to stare at the ceiling again."And it'd serve you
right."

"Well, it won't be anything I haven't seen before," she pointed out,
her eyes drifting over to the slumbering canine. It had surprised her
that J'ackt had taken in a canine, but the two seemed to fit together
well. "So what's got you so moody? I mean, moodier than usual."

"Yes, but it might test your self control and you might want to molest
me or something." His voice was dry as he scowled at the ceiling. "I'm
not moody."

**If we weren't cousins,** she added mentally. "Of course you are,
especially if Zith is pointing it out. Have you convinced the
powers-that-be yet that you can leave the Queen's Wing?"

"Zith is nosy." He snorted. "Yeah. N"vanik transferred me a few days
ago. Getting used to it." He finally heaved himself up to a sit and
rested his elbows on his knees. "You don't have to sit all the way
over there. I'm not going to fecking bite you. Shards, I'm not biting
anyone or doing much else, either."

"Ah," Saidrene arched an eyebrow and pushed herself up from her chair.
"So I take it things aren't going well with Alina?" she asked as she
deposited herself beside of J'ackt, bumping her shoulder against his.

His scowl darkened. "No. And it won't. We're too different." He turned
his head to look at Saidrene. "I tried. That's it. It was stupid." He
shook his head. "Fecking holders. I've not bedded anyone outside of
two moths in nearly five fecking months. For a fecking holder." J'ackt
snorted. "Not doing that again."

Saidrene knew that it was more than that, she knew that J'ackt would
never have done such a thing if he hadn't really cared about Alina. "I
am sorry, J'ackt. I was hoping it would work out, for the both of
you."

He bumped against her in return and grunted. "Well, it didn't." He
felt as though he had made a fool of himself over the girl. He decided
then and there that he would never do that again, for any girl or
woman. "Learned my lesson, didn't I?" He looked over at her. "And hurt
my best friend too. Feck, I'm a right bastard." He paused. "Literally
and figuratively."

"There's nothing wrong with following your heart, even if it doesn't
always go the way you want. And hey, you're not a bastard literally,
you're a part of my family, and we're fabulous, which makes you
incredibly fortunate," she teased.

"My mam and K'yne weren't wed." He pointed to himself. "Bastard." He
shrugged. "Not that it means much." He finally was able to lift one
side of his mouth in a slight smirk. "Fabulous, huh?" He eyed her. "Be
even more fabulous if you'd still let me take you to bed. THAT would
be fabulous." He wrapped an arm around her and gave her a quick hug.
"Still, following the heart thing...yeah...learned that it's stupid."

Saidrene felt that familiar flutter in the pit of her stomach, "Hey,
don't look at me like that. I would still let you take me to bed, but
I'm not about to face Cyradis' wrath. She's forbidden it.""

"She explained it, yeah. We can't have kids, which I don't want
anyway. Big difference." He slowly grinned, waggling his brows, his
mood lifting a bit at the thought. "Besides, it's not like I haven't
had my hands and mouth everywhere on you already. And other body
parts." Saidrene always managed to lift his moods; she seemed to
understand him better than most. With a grin, he grabbed her, lifted
her and plopped her on his lap and gave her a loud smacking kiss on
her cheek.

"J'ackt!" she giggled, arms thrown around his neck All of what he said
was true, of course. "Are you trying to get me in trouble?"

"Let's see." He made a show of looking around his weyr. "I don't see a
goldrider any where. Nope. No Cyradis." He grinned and flickered his
fingers against her side, aiming for the tender areas that he knew
full well were the most ticklish. "Didn't you know? I'm a trouble-maker."

Saidrene squirmed in his lap to escape the tickling fingers, "You? A
trouble-maker? Why, I had no idea."

He grunted as she squirmed, his body reacting to the movement of her
bottom. It was not helping. He quit the tickling and grabbed her hip
to try to still her wiggles. "You're a horrible liar." He grinned and
his eyes slid down to her mouth and then back up to meet her own. "And
I haven't kissed you in a long time."

The greenrider sobered, her eyes searching J'ackt's. Did he mean it?
"Then kiss me," she said.

"About fecking time." He swept his mouth over hers, rediscovering what
he'd neglected for months. He pulled her closer, a hand tangling in
her hair to hold her against him. Slowly, he pulled away, drawing out
her lower lip before releasing her. "Was that so bad?"

She'd forgotten how good J'ackt kissed. In fact, she'd tried to make
herself forget how well they complimented each other physically since
he'd chosen Alina, and then they'd discovered her uncle was his
father. "No, it wasn't bad at all," she turned in his lap, her legs
straddling his hips. "I've missed you," she said, returning his kiss.

He grabbed her hips and rocked them against his just once before
sliding one hand up the back of her tunic and stroking up her spine.
Faranth, she was familiar and welcome...and he had missed her just as
much. He pulled his mouth away, eyes no longer filled with mirth but
hot with another need."Stumpy, down. Now." The canine grumbled, but
woke up and grudgingly got off of the bed, sulking towards the ledge.
J'ackt didn't even notice as he stared into Saidrene's eyes as one
hand slid to cup her cheek. "Want to break some rules?"

She unbuttoned the front of his pants, "With you? Always."
