"So how go the women troubles?" Aletta asked, dropping in the sand nex to the bluerider. She firgured he'd be someone to talk to who didn't htink she was nuts.
"Still troublesome," D'cal chuckled. "And your harper boy?"
"I think I've blown it. Not sure he's speaking to me anymore."
"What?" D'cal asked turning to look at the greenrider fully. "What happened?"
"we went swimming and got caught up in a green flight, well I did more than he did. He kinda fliped out and I got mad. So I walked off. A mutual friend told me he's pretty upset about the whole thing."
"Well, he _is_ only fourteen," the bluerider nodded. "Shards, I barely knew how to even _talk_ to a girl at that age."
"Ture, but it was more than that. It's the idea of a flight that creeps him out so much. He can't understand what it's like for the riders."
"Well, to be honest, neither can I. I have't actually experienced one yet." Though he was sure the time was coming.
"At least you understand the bond."
"It's different in the Hall. The things they teach you about what happens in the Weyr... Well, they're a little hard to accept sometimes."
"I just don't want to lose a friend you know."
"Yeah, I know," D'cal replied softly. He knew all too well.
"I guess thers not a lot we can do about it is there?' He sighed and put a friendly arm around her shoulders. "No, not really.
It takes a long time to change. He may come around in time."
SHe smiled at him."I hope so, I've gotten used to the little jerk, even if he does think I'm realted to female canines."
D'cal laughed. "Don't worry. When he's older, he'll realize you are a fine example of a female human."
Aletta jioned in his laughter. "Someday."
"I have a feeling he'll come around. Don't worry yourself so much."
"Thats what Farsith tells me. Then she says he should stand and that would solve everything."
"Until he Impresses and he can't spend time with you for four months." That was when everything seemed to go wrong between him and Dyaera...
"Don't remind me." she sighed.
"Is he going to stand?"
"I doubt it."
D'cal gave her shoulder a squeeze. "Well, then, nothing to worry about there."
"Now I just have to contend with him not understanding Farsith. I think he's afraid of her."
"Well, she could eat him in two bites, for all that she's a green." Dragon's of all colors were much larger than any human afterall, and took a little getting used to.
"She would never hurt anyone. The only thing she dosen't like is thread."
"_I_ know that. And he probably knows that too. But to someone who never had a dragon, and who really hasn't been around dragons much, it can seem pretty scary." D'cal remembered the first time he met Tilarth, his heart was pounding, for all he was trying to impress Dyaera.
" I can't win can I? He won't understand unless he impresses. but he won't stand. I wonder if a firelizard would help."
"A firelizard is a little smaller than a dragon," the bluerider chuckled. "He'll come around. He just needs a little time."
"But don't you think it would help him understand the bond."
D'cal shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't ever had a flit myself. I can't imagine anything would be like having your own dragon. But you have a flit. Is it similar?"
"I had Farsith first so I'm not sure, It wasn't as intese."
"I have a feeling, though, all he needs is a little time to figure out life in the Weyr." Of course, even _he_ wasn't sure how long that was supposed to take. He had nearly graduated into a fighting wing already, and he still hadn't figured it all out.
"I hope your right D'cal, I really do. I hate to lose him altogether."
"Him give you up entirely?" He squeezed her shoulder gently once more. "I don't know if that's possible."
Aletta smiled, leaning over she kissed his check. "That's sweet."
Too bad sweet wasn't enough for some girls...
