Description: J'ackt and Saidrene discuss their relationship
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 2 of Turn 9
When they'd arrived back from Dragonsfall, Saidrene had gone her
separate way from J'ackt for a little while. She needed time to
process and unwind and give some time and thought to what they'd
learned. The next day though she swung back his weyr.
"J'ackt?" She called tentatively as she walked by Zith, her fingers
trailing along his bronze hide.
"I'm here." His voice was quiet, subdued. He was sitting at his table,
sweat causing a slight sheen to his skin as he unwrapped his knuckles.
He looked up as she entered. "I was expecting you'd be here sooner or
later."
Saidrene deliberately avoided the dig, "Of course, I tend to stop by
quite often, don't I?" She didn't know how to handle the issue between
them. Their physical intimacy had always been a way of communication
for them, in that way, they understood each other better than anyone
else. Take that away and what was left?
He nodded. "Yeah. But you've never been this stiff around me." He put
his wrappings down and turned to look at her, studying her face. "It's
not our fault, Saidrene. We didn't do anything wrong."
She wasn't sure others would see it that way. "I didn't say we did. I
guess I'm just wondering how to go forward. You're an important part
of my life."
"But part of you thinks we did." He pointed out. "I know you,
Saidrene." He leaned back in his chair and rubbed the back of his
neck. "We just go forward. Just because I'm not bedding you doesn't
mean I care for you any less or you me. We talk, you tell me I'm an
idiot when you think I am. The only difference is that we don't hop
into bed."
Saidrene sat across the table from him. "I'm going to miss that part,"
she admitted, because she knew that it was safe to say that here with
J'ackt.
He nodded. "Me too." He met her gaze. "And it doesn't mean that I'm
not going to be protective over you when it comes to you finding a man
to share your time with. Or that I'm not going to threaten them if I
need to." His lips curled just a little. "You'll find someone that'll
love you like you want them to."
"Yes, I was mad at the time that you couldn't do that for me, but I
guess now it's worked out for the best." Saidrene sighed a little.
When would she ever find someone that she was as comfortable with as
J'ackt?
J'ackt made a non-committal shrug. He knew how she felt; he was far
from stupid and Faranth knew he was observant. "Are you still going to
be friendly with Alina? If anything does happen between her and I?"
"Of course, she's one of my really good friends. I know she likes you,
and I know you like her. Why wouldn't I be friendly?" That left her as
the forgotten third wheel, but Saidrene had known it would happen
eventually.
"Good." He sighed. "And all of this doesn't mean you can't come here
whenever you need to." He pointed out. "You're still my best friend,
Saidrene. That's not going to change."
**But it will,** she thought silently. If a relationship did develop
between him and Alina eventually they would grow to be confidants, the
best of friends, that's how real relationships worked. Slowly she
would be edged out.
"Well, I just wanted to make sure we were okay and that you were okay.
I know the other day was... heavy."
"Don't know if I'm exactly 'okay'." He admitted, shaking his head.
"Too much to deal with all at once. And I don't know if I want any
more to deal with. I think it's best if K'yne stays there and I stay
here and I just go back to what I was doing before."
Saidrene nodded, she understood that sentiment. "And if he wants to
get to know you more?"
J'ackt's lips thinned and he shook his head. "No, don't think so. I
think we've said all we're going to. At least right now. Maybe for a
long time. I don't want to deal with him right now."
"I understand," and she did. It was a lot to deal with, and she was
sure her uncle was probably okay with the distance for now as well.
Saidrene stood then, sweeping her long hair over her shoulder,
"Ashareth is waiting on me outside. If you need anything, to talk or
whatever, you know where to find me."
He nodded, but recognized the distance that already seemed to be
growing between them. He didn't like it, but didn't know how to bridge
it. "And you know where I am."
