T'jan was exhausted by the time Sajaneth finally drifted off to sleep, but he'd carefully gotten the excitable young dragonet to pass a message to D'cal's Aosorath first. By the time he managed to get cleaned up and dragged himself out of the weyrling barracks, D'cal had arrived, making T'jan feel intensely grateful. Finally he would get a chance to talk to someone who knew what he felt like... and what he was in for. "Hello, D'cal."

"I got your message. I have to admit, I'm surprised that I would get it so _soon_," D'cal smiled. "You know the party is inside the Weyr, don't you."

"I know. I thought..." T'jan shifted a little nervously, glancing back at the Weyr. "Well, you saw what happened."

"You mean that you Impressed a _blue_?" They had both come from the same place. He knew exactly the fears that was going through his younger friend's mind.

T'jan nodded, his cheeks turning a little pink. "I, uhhh... kind of thought that might happen."

"Well, I have to admit, I thought it might happen to me too," D'cal nodded.
He had not, however, expected his friend to have Impressed a blue as well.

"You did?" T'jan asked, his eyes going wide with shock. "I knew I loved women. I knew that. But there were times when... well..."
he shrugged. "When I thought men were pretty appealing too."

"Yeah..." T'jan could remember all too well the first time he realized that girls didn't always seem as interesting as boys did. "I thought this would happen, which was why I was nervous about coming here. My father... he's going to know now, isn't he?"

D'cal nodded. "Yes. There really is no way to hide a dragon."

"Oh." T'jan sighed sadly. "I don't think he's going to like that much." "Did he come today? To watch the Hatching I mean?"

"He couldn't come," T'jan admitted. "He promised he'd try, but he must not have been able to get away. Or he knew what was going to happen..." D'cal searched his friend face. "Do you think it's possible he knew?"

T'jan's face fell. "I don't know. I never... said anything. But maybe he did." "Well, there is no reason to worry about it. You have a beautiful new lifemate, a whole new life ahead of you. And you have a chance to finally figure out who it is you want to be." Shards, it sounded so easily coming out of his mouth. He wished he could figure it out himself. "I suppose..." T'jan managed a shaky smile. "I don't mind so much... I think it'll be nice to... to get to be who I want to be. I just wish I didn't know that my father isn't going to like that person..."

"You don't know that yet," D'cal said reassuringly. "He may be proud of you no matter what color you Impress. At least, I'm sure he'll learn to accept it."

T'jan wasn't so sure, but there was no reason to dwell on it. "So... can I come back into the party with you? Since I don't have any family, I mean..."

"Of course," the Senior Weyrling smiled. "You have to have your fun while you still can. Tomorrow the real work begins, and it will be a while before you'll have a chance to really let loose. You have to enjoy your freedom while it lasts!"

Smiling, T'jan followed D'cal back toward the Weyr. "I guess there's one good thing about Impressing... that girl will have to stop chasing me around and trying to kiss me for a while!"

"That's true," D'cal smiled. "Although, I was rather sad I didn't have more time to kiss the girl who was chasing me around before Impressing." T'jan made a face. "Well, at least I have a few months to figure out what I want to do about that. I suppose it'll come soon enough, though." "That's true. It feels like forever at the time, but when you look back its like it was over so quickly."

"I can only imagine. You're going to graduate soon, aren't you?" That was a prospect far more nerve-wracking than worrying about girls... flying against Thread with only his wits and his dragon to keep him alive.

"Yes, pretty soon. Next month perhaps."

"Well, let's go enjoy being weyrlings together than, while we still can."
T'jan smiled hopefully. "I think we need to have some fun." "Indeed. And our first fun activity is that way," D'cal said with a point at the Weyr entrance. "Ready?"

"Ready!" T'jan replied, though he wasn't actually sure he was. Either way, there was no stopping it... he was a weyrling now.
