Description: K'ale asks Lanniya an important question.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 19 of Turn 8
Lanniya curled up on K'ale's lap, flicking his collar with a little
finger. She wiggled her bottom and leaned against his shoulder,
peering up at him. "I love your visits." Her foot idly bobbed as she
tugged at a button. "I wish you were here more often. Or I was there
more." Her responsibilities were getting more complex and time
consuming, but they seemed to get a bit easier when she knew she was
about to have a rest day with him. She walked her fingers up to his
chin and tapped his skin lightly. "I miss you when you're not around,
you know."
"And I miss you," he replied warmly. His big hands lightly caressed
her back. "That's probably why I come here to visit so frequently."
Leaning against his shoulder, she toyed again with his collar. "Well,
maybe if you lived closer..." She tugged at his collar. "Or even right
here, it might be better."
He was fully aware of the etiquette of the Weyr and while rank might
be different from maturity it was nonetheless rank. He might suggest
but never ask for what he might want. But then maybe she hadn't really
understood how that sounded and what it might imply. "Is that an
invitation, goldrider?" His arm pulled her just a little bit closer.
She enjoyed the closer snuggle and wiggled her bottom, then sighed. "I
want you close." She leaned her head back to look at him. "I love
waking up to you when you can stay the night and the way you hold me."
She touched his cheek and brushed her fingers over his brows. "You
make me smile and when I know you're coming here I get so happy. It's
like everything I have to worry about gets put away and I can just be
me."
"I love all that too," he said and his eyes grew serious. "I care
about you very much," he added. Then he took a deep breath, "Do you
want me to transfer here Lanniya and live with you?" Perhaps the
direct question was better than just a hint of the answer he was
looking for. "You know, because of your rank, I can't ask you to
weyrmate, right? It's a big question but you have to do the asking."
Then he kissed her softly to stop any immediate reply.
He'd seen his father flit from woman to woman for as long as he could
remember. No Weyrmating had ever turned out well until Yanley. K'ale
knew he wanted a relationship that involved deep attachment on both
sides, like theirs. But whether or not Lanniya was ready for that kind
of step was another matter entirely.
She returned the kiss, but blinked several times before turning to
straddle K'ale's lap. She settled back on his lap and tilted her head.
"You can't?" She paused, considering it. "Well, that's stupid."
Lanniya ran her hands through his hair, and gave a crooked smile.
"Really stupid, cause I don't care a bit about rank and you know it."
Her brow furrowed. "Don't you want to move here?"
"Of course I do," he growled. His hands smoothed her beautiful red
gold hair out of her eyes. "I know you don't care but dragons do and
lots of other people do. So there are rules and you know that."
Wrapped his arms around her tenderly treasuring her simple joy and
innocence. "They're mostly good rules you know."
"Pft." She made the noise and wrinkled her nose before rubbed the tip
of it against his own. "So, ask me anyways."
"Alright," he smiled and picked her up, stepped off the bed and put
her back down sitting there. He leaned over and pulled a small box out
of his pocket and knelt beside her. "Will you weyrmate with me?" He
offered the little box to her.
Lanniya blinked rapidly as he knelt, her eyes flying from his face, to
the box, then back to his face. Her eyes widened into saucers as
realization came to her that he was actually asking. Her mouth dropped
open before she burst into a sudden squeal and flung herself at him,
all arms and legs as she knocked him over and began pressing kisses
all over his face.
Pierka and Liddith had landed on her sister's ledge and Pierka had
just bowed her greetings to the beautiful gold when she heard the
squeal and rushed inside, "Lanniya?" . But the sounds coming from
Lanniya's sleep chamber were decidedly not anything like what she'd
first thought.
"Um," she strangled her words and her face flamed as she got an
glimpse of her sister kissing her brownrider rather.. actively.
"Sorry for interrupting," she managed before turning toward the exit.
Lanniya looked up from her position on top of K'ale and pushed her
hair from her face. "Pierka?" She looked back down at K'ale and
grabbed his hand, hopping up off of him and trying to tug him up.
"Come on, we gotta tell her. Oh m'gosh, she'll be so excited!"
Pierka's eyes widened just before she shaded them to turn away and
start back toward the entrance.
K'ale scrambled to his feet. "No Pierka, wait." He reached for
Lanniya's hand. "It wasn't what you think."
"Though it probably would have been if you'd waited a few more
minutes." Lanniya's dimpled grin was full of mischief and quite
unapologetic. "Besides, it's not like you don't smooch all over your
weyrmate when you get a chance."
"Yes, well we're not usually rolling on the floor in front of people,"
she blushed and turned back. "So what was it then?"
Lanniya's grin widened as she thrust out the ring for Pierka to see.
"Look! He asked me! He asked me!" Her beaming smile was wide and
happy, her eyes sparkling. "We're weyrmating!"
Pierka gasped and reached for her sisters hand "Oh wow," she breathed.
Z'ku hadn't given her a ring! But there wasn't an ounce of jealousy in
her eyes as she grabbed and hugged her sister. "I am so happy for
you," she crowed.
K'ale struck a pose of pride as he watched the two sisters. They
looked so alike other than their hair, yet they were very different.
In addition to his happiness about the answer he'd just received from
Lanniya, he realized he'd have Pierka as a sister and that was a very
good thing.
Lanniya bounced on her toes as Pierka hugged her and she hugged back
just as tightly. When released, she looked over at K'ale, her eyes
glowing. "And I love him. I really really love him."
"I love you too," he whispered to her.
Pierka looked back and forth between the two of them and smiled. "I'm
very happy for you."
"I can't wait to tell Mama and Papa when they come through." She
beamed and went back to K'ale's side, snuggling close and looking up
at him with shiny eyes. She blinked and then looked at Pierka, her
smile widening with cheeky mischief. "You may want to excuse us for a
candlemark...or two." She tilted her head. "Maybe even three."
Pierka smiled and shook her head. Surely she didn't look that sappy
when she watched Z'ku? We'll maybe she did. "I'll see you later," she
said and walked out.
K'ale growled and threw Lanniya on the bed. "Three hours?" He started
with tickling.
Lanniya giggled and kicked her feet. "Four! I meant four!"
