Description: A visit from a friend.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 6, day 4 of Turn 8
It was only a matter of time before the River Bluff Weyrwoman heard
about what had happened at Dolphin Cove and who had been involved. By
all reports, he was alive so she didn't immediately rush over, but it
wasn't long before she found a weyrling to take her to the other Weyr.
Despite the distance between them, R'enh was still one of her best
friends and she had a strong need to see him and make sure he was
safe.
In her mind, she knew the Infirmary staff there would take very good
take care of him due to his position and other considerations. It
wasn't enough to just know though.
When the young brown touched down, it didn't take too long before the
Weyrwoman was dismounting in a hurry. The watchdragon would mark the
weyrling's arrival, not a queen's. She'd stop by and see Cyradis
after. R'enh was her first priority just then.
Walking into the infirmary, a few quick questions told her where he
was. Not caring if he was indecent or not, she didn't make a warning
sound before she stepped around the curtain. "You're lucky you're
already in serious pain right now or I would have made sure of it."
Luckily for R'enh Mnoranth had warned him that Orlaith's was coming a
moment before she charged in. He'd been watching from outside the
infirmary where he'd waited rather patiently for his rider to come
back out. He knew the gold wasn't in the area but he knew hers very
well as did his rider.
So R'enh twisted his upper body to lean on his good arm and grin at
her. "Nice to see you too Rhosyn."
Quiet as she looked him over, not bothering to ask before touching him
and judging the extent of the injuries herself, the goldrider had a very large
frown on her face. Satisfied that he would live and that it could have been a
lot worse, she was still not happy when she finished and looked back at him.
"I know you know how stupid this was. I know it's not going to do any good to
yell at you. I still want to." She sighed and brought her hands back
to her sides.
"Can't yell at me any more than I have done myself," he said and lay
back down in the pillows. "But if you need to, go for it." He had a
special appreciation for the little Lady whose queen ruled River Bluff.
"It's just...I am tired of people doing stupid things lately-risking
their dragons and themselves when their Weyrs need them. I mean, think
of what might have happened. And here all of us would be left behind
picking up the pieces." She sat down in the chair nearby, wringing her
hands. "You're....one of my few very good friends." Trying not to get
too emotional, knowing she wouldn't be able to stop if she did, Rhosyn
tried an attempt at sarcastic humor. "If I lose you, I'll only have two left.
Okay maybe one-Lenala probably puts up with me because she doesn't
want to be Weyrwoman."
"Hey," he said gently. "Come here."
Sighing, she scooted a bit closer. Well aware he was probably hurting
based on what she'd seen of his injuries, she didn't try to touch him.
Instead, she was trying her best not to let her recent misery color
her worry for him. This wasn't about _her_, but him. "Why would you do
something like that?"
He reached for her hand. "You're a very intense woman you know," he
chuckled. "What can I say? I fell in love."
"Intense is a nice way of saying loud. I've never denied that." She shrugged,
letting him touch her and remembering other times when it felt differently.
He wasn't talking about her, that was for sure. She wondered, though, if she
wanted to know. Rhosyn watched him, hearing the laugh in his voice. He was
making light of the situation. "Love can make idiots of us all." Her
tone said she was reflecting a bit on her own past history. "Well if
the other person really loved you, they wouldn't have let you risk
your life like that."
"She didn't force me into anything," he smiled.
"Didn't stop you either, apparently," Rhosyn mumbled with an irritated
tone. "Tell me once you get out of this bed, there will be no more of
this, right? That you'll be careful."
"Yes ma'am," he chuckled and then winced. He raised his good hand to
his forehead and rubbed it. "Sorry bad headache. Yes, I'll be careful.
No more risky business." He'd gotten much the same speech from N'vanik
not that long ago and he knew better than to argue.
"Here..." She looked around and found a bit of water leftover. Handing it to
him, Rhosyn considered finding a healer. "Do you need me to get you
some willowbark tea?" Not exactly the best nursemaid usually, she could
do what she could.
"That would be very nice. Thank you." He turned and sank back into the
pillows as comfortably as he could and closed his eyes to shut out the
light. "How are things with you? I'd heard you were having some difficulties."
"Hold on." She got up and disappeared to get the tea. Sometime after,
she came back in, trying to be quiet but she carefully handed over the
warm brew into his hands. "Not going to lie-it's been rough. Lenala's
back on track and up to speed now though so that helps. Not as tired
anymore. Lanniya is going to work with the weyrlingstaff some, though.
She's just not...ready to be a wingrider yet. Better for her to practice
things more there with them I think."
Rhosyn looked down at the floor, knowing who she was talking to and
what had just happened. She usually didn't bring up those type of
things with him for a reason. "And my nice, young Weyrleader
apparently still has eyes for a junior goldrider at Dragonsfall. So,
I'm thinking about just giving up on bronzeriders altogether.
Blueriders are quite a-fun-anytime-you-want-them lot. There's just
the problem that they might be more interested in the bronzeriders
than I am." Of course that would likely shock everyone-a Weyrwoman
with a bluerider on a regular basis. Then again, they had been a lot
nicer to her overall, so why not?
"Thanks," he said gratefully when she brought him the cup and sipped
at the hot liquid until it seemed he could get most of it down. He
knew better than to argue with her so simply shrugged. "I know it has
been rough and that comes with the job. As for me, the heart wants
what it wants Rhosyn," he said almost sadly. "We don't often get to
choose who we love. But," he put a hand out to her. "we _can_ choose
our friends and I'll always be yours."
She had chosen but it had turned out that she hadn't been the
first choice. Closing her eyes, she tried not to think about some
of the memories of R'enh that threatened to pop up from long ago
when things had been different. She'd made her peace with it, but
sometimes... **I can't lose anything else.** Opening them, she
watched him for a bit.
Staying to chat for as long as she could, she noticed when he
started to get tired. "Well I'm going to let you sleep. I'm going to go
tell Cyradis to tell me if you get an idea to do something
stupid again so I can knock you on the head first." Getting up, she
brushed off her trousers, feeling the relief wash over her again.
**He's going to be okay.**
R'enh just chuckled and fell into a deep sleep.
