E couldn't get to everyone quickly, so he tried to check in when he
could, slowly but surely. Unlike most Hallmasters, Relik didn't feel
separated from his people. He kept himself as close to them as
possible, working side-by-side. So, this evening, he was knocking on
the door of one of his senior journeymen whose family had recently
returned.

"Evening, Hallmaster," Uegot opened the door, one of the kids riding
on his back.

Having quite a few children himself, though he had been at sea for
most of the time they had been growing up, Relik didn't bat an eye at
the one on the back of the crafter. "Well met Uegot. Came to see how
all of you were faring and to make sure that the time at Citrus Bay
wasn't difficult." He'd need to speak with the Holder later, offer him
gratitude for sheltering his folk. He still hadn't figured out what to
offer in exchange.

"Do come in," Uegot invited him in and step aside to let the
hallmaster enter. "Warn your mother," he murmured to his child, who
grinned, slid down and ran towards the kitchen yelling: "Mom! We have
guest, it's the Hallmaster!"

"Oh dear," Nerylyn sighed and rushed to put the klah brewing. She
looked around in desperation. The place was still bit of a mess. The
roof had leaked and furniture had been stacked to those parts of the
house that been remained dry. Other than that, their cot had been
spared from the worst.

Walking inside, the hallmaster took stock with a few glances. It was
definitely salvageable with a bit of work. And it wasn't an unsafe
environment for the children as it was now. "How extensive are the
repairs needed?" he asked the journeyman, knowing they only had a
precious amount of wood left just then.

"Part of the roof and then just dry off everything that got wet,"
Uegot replied. "I think branch or something fell through the roof. It
needs new tiles."

Nodding, the older man made a mental note. "That can be arranged.
Come by the quartermaster's shed tomorrow morning." Looking again at
the children as they meandered around them, he thought about how many
he had and how times had been harder when he'd been a journeyman. "So
how did everyone like it at the Hold eh?" The children would give him
the honest answer, after all.

"We slept in a tent, it was fun," Nerue replied.

"Except when Gotner snores," Uelyn added.

"I do not snore!" the boy protested.

"We had harper classes outdoors too, 'cause all of us didn't fit
inside. Well, not when it rained," Uelyn continued.

"The food was bleh, always the same. Mom makes better," Lyngot gave
his input too. "There was lot of other kids to play with."

"So it was a bit of an adventure, was it? Did you learn anything
worthwhile? Holders work alot differently than hallfolk." He wanted to
make sure his people were treated well. Grateful for Raghad and
everything he had done, Relik would extend the same courtesies if the
shoe were on the other foot.

"Yes, it was," the kids replied in chorus. As for the question about
learning, they just shrugged their shoulders. They had lived in a hold
before, so it hadn't been that much different.

"Well good. Glad everyone had an adventure and ended up back home
safe." Ruffling one of the boy's hair, he let the kids get back to
what they were doing as he stood beside Uegot. "And Nerylyn-what did
she say about their time spent?"

"That it was inconvenient and time to time uncomfortable but the
people were friendly and welcoming and did their best in an
unexpected situation," Nerylyn replied herself, coming out of the
kitchen. She handed him a freshly brewed cup of klah. "I'm glad to be
back home," she continued and smiled at her husband.

"Does my heart happy to hear that." So Raghad's folk had done their
duty, thankfully. That was one less worry. Sipping the klah, Relik
once again felt a sense of gratitude that his Hall hadn't lost more
lives than what they had. Buildings could be rebuilt but people could
never be brought back. "I'll let you all get back to your dinner then
since everything seems to be in order." He took another gulp of the
klah, not wanting to let that go to waste.

"You're welcome to join us for dinner," Nerylyn invited.

Uegot just nodded in agreement with his tiny wife and wrapped his arm
around her.

"I would love to do just that. Unfortunately my wife has demanded my
presence at her table. I think it might have to do with the boys
somehow." His expression foretold that he didn't think it would be
good news, but that he was ready for it nonetheless. Finishing off the
klah, he handed the mug to Nerylyn. "Perhaps another evening?"

"Of course. Have a nice day," Nerylyn replied with a smile. Again,
Uegot just nodded.
