Genna

Genna

It wasn't like they were best friends or anything. He had only been at the Vintner Hall for a bit of training and that was after she'd left for the Weyr he was sure. Still, the Weyrlingmasters had been pushing him to prepare for the future when he would be a grownup and Iroth might be chasing other dragons and doing all sorts of strange things. So he was going to take their advice and make friends with the youngest goldrider of the Weyr. That made better sense to him than walking into the Weyrwoman's office for a chat, after all. Besides, she seemed nice enough. And it wasn't like he hadn't met goldriders before or anything-he was related to one even!

**Can you ask Lissath if her rider will be free this coming restday?** He tried not to bite his nails, pending the outcome of that request.

Iroth had been pushing little rocks off the ledge where he was perched. The bronze head came around at that request, examining his rider and rolling the thoughts around in his head that R'gelen was sending through their bond. It was a strange feeling, but he understood his rider's request and saw no problem with it. His head turned back to the Bowl, locating the young golden creature he was asked to address. }:Lissath, my queen, my rider would like to know if your rider is free this restday?:{

When Lissath relayed the request, Genna was in all honesty quite surprised. She had only met with the young bronzerider briefly every now and then, so the request had her curious to say the least. Intrigued as she was, she prompted Lissath to reply instantly.

}: She does have some time indeed. What is his proposal? :{

}:He has a birthingday and we go out of the Weyr. It would be grand if your rider would like to come.:{ Forming the words so they mirrored what R'gelen was telling to say, Iroth found himself enjoying the exchange with the queen, despite the awkward situation. Warming up to his task, he added, }:My rider likes to explore:{

Knowing the conversation was still going on and listening in, R'gelen found himself surprised that Genna hadn't just said no. Perhaps she really was quite nice like she seemed. His Aunt had a good opinion of her, but he still didn't know her well enough yet to know if she was a good judge.

Aw, now that was sweet. Genna was instantly warmed by the thought the young lad wanted to spend his birthingday with her, even though they barely knew each other. It was a good idea to get to know each other though, and it might be a lot of fun.

}: My Genna wants to know if you checked it with the Weyrlingmaster. :{

Iroth seemed a bit affronted. His rider was young, but they had finished weyrling training just like everyone else. }:We come and go as we please as long as we are back on time:{ he answered, cutting out his offended tone with pleading from his rider, who knew very well who he was talking to and why even if he didn't yet.

:} If you are sure of that, then let me know when and where and we will meet you next restday. :{ Lissath replied after consulting with Genna. Genna wasn't up to speed on the agreements with the graduated young riders in the weyrling wing, but she'd tactfully check that with someone before they left.

~*~

At the agreed upon time, Genna and Lissath were waiting for word from Iroth. She'd brought a small pack with some drinks and snacks and had even found time to find R'gelen a little birthingday gift. It was his party after all! It was a small gesture, but she hoped he would like it nonetheless.

It had been a lot of fussing to get to this point. He'd even asked a few other riders about protocol for this sort of thing. R'gelen had on his best tunic and trousers as well as flight gear. He figured representing his Weyr, as well as escorting a goldrider, albeit a junior, merited some serious grooming. Of course his standard for grooming included a lot less work than others since he didn't even have to shave yet. Pulling on his boots, he grabbed his helmet and moved to mount his bronze. Iroth had been recently bathed and oiled, which had been a long process. The young bronze had enjoyed it thoroughly, though. And now he had on his harness for riding, not for threadfighting. The leather was black and adorned with bronze ringlets, an interesting contrast. It had taken the young rider a long time to finish, but he'd been proud of the result.

Gliding down to the Bowl, the dragon made a show of landing, then came to a stop and walked over to Lissath through the snow. His eyes whirled a happy blue at the prospect of exploring and being joined by such a beauty. }:We are ready!:{

Lissath was amused with the young bronze, obviously trying to impress her. That was always welcomed. }: Welcome, Iroth. Where are we going today? :{

Genna raised her hand in greeting and waited for Lissath to get the visuals they needed to take off.

}:My rider has chosen Lemos Hold:{ he announced. R'gelen hadn't been to many places in the north just yet and it held his interest since before becoming a rider it had seemed eternally off limits. Plus Lemos was beautiful so they said and he had worked on the visuals for a good long while. Hopefully, Genna had never been there just yet. After the young rider sent the bronze the image, Iroth sent it to Lissath.

Waving back to Genna with the enthusiasm of a young boy about to be set loose on an unsuspecting new audience, R'gelen instructed Iroth to launch. The bronze hovered near the Star Stones, waiting for the queen to follow. This would be a new experience, flying with a dragon like her.

}: I hear that is nice, we have never been, I think :{ Lissath replied in a friendly tone, taking the image from the young bronze. She hesitated for a moment, but Genna convinced her the pair knew what they were doing and she launched after Iroth, ready for the trip.

Not long after they headed past the Star Stones, Iroth was gone /between/. R'gelen counted his breath. It seemed forever until they were out again in the sunlight. There was so much green grass everywhere. It was a meadow, but there were woods in the distance. The Hold was nearby. Searching the sky, he tried to get his bearings, even as he remembered and looked to his right for Lissath to appear. Momentary panic crossed his mind. **Faranth please let her come out soon...**
