Description: Her family congratulates her after her impression.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 4, day 17 of Turn 8
Of course when you have a big family, and something exciting occurs, they all want to congratulate you. Doria wouldn't be surprised if they all came at once. She'd already seen her mother at the feast, now she could see her father, looking for someone and assumed he was looking for her. She gave a little wave so he could see her over the crowds.
"Excuse me, excuse me..." Sh'dori pushed his way thru the crowd. "My little one!" he bellowed when he saw Doria.
She shrunk down a little, turning red as people stopped to stare. "Hello Sh'dori." Her voice was much softer.
"Congratulations, sweetheart!" Sh'dori gave her a big bearhug. There were other members of the family approaching them, but they were slower and gave the father first chance to congratulate her.
"Thank you." She hugged him back, although he was making it difficult to breathe. "Did you see her?"
"Yes, I saw the Impression. She's a little beauty," Sh'dori replied.
"Not as pretty as my Naryath," G'dori said drolly. "Congratulations, little sis. Here," he had a glass of juice for her.
"Thank you." She took it and sipped. "But Necath is prettier." And smarter. And more amazing all around.
"If you need tips how to survive weyrlinghood, don't hesitate to ask," Ged offered.
"Don't you listen anything he has to said, he's prone to get you in trouble," M'shan said and planted his hands on Ged's shoulders, giving him a brotherly squeeze. "Congratulations. Sh'lua sent his love too. Unfortunately he has duties that prevent him from coming here," the brownrider grinned.
"He's always busy." Doria shrugged. "I'm sure he'll visit later. No one could resist Necath for long." She sighed in that special way new weyrlings did.
Ged chuckled. It hadn't been that long since he had been the starcrossed weyrling like that.
"Yes, I'm sure he'll visit as soon as he can. Since he has family in both Weyrs," Sh'dori remarked.
"Yes, I know, I'm related to half of Pern." Doria smirked.
"Guilty," Sh'dori said cheerfully, while Ged rolled his eyes.
"It's horrible," he complained. "You have to check their bloodline before you start dating someone, just in case it's a long lost cousin or something and when your green Rises, half of the Weyr runs off to get away from you."
Doria grimaced. "Great, something else to worry about." She was a kid. Until now she hadn't had to think about sex. Now… she'd have to deal with it eventually.
"Hey, the other option would be even more horrible," M'shan said. "Don't worry about it yet. You need to get past weyrlinghood first."
"You mean Necath being caught by one of yours." Doria made a face. "That's yucky." Thankfully he was right, she didn't have to worry about it now.
"Not something you want to think about," Ged agreed with her.
"Not ever. So aren't you all hungry?" Men always seemed to be hungry, no matter the age.
"Of course they are," Sh'dori snorted. "How about you? You need to eat too."
"I am a bit hungry." She knew she'd need to eat, she'd be working very hard for the next… forever.
"Let's go to eat then," Sh'dori replied.
Doria nodded, although she was loathe to go too far from Naceth. "Just for a little while," she said.
"Can't leave her alone, eh?" Ged asked with knowing smile. "They really are the most amazing things in Pern."
"I had no idea," Doria admitted. She skirted around a group of boisterous weyrlings. She might be one of them, but that didn't mean she shared their zest for - noise. "It'll take some getting used to."
"It's worth it and you get used to it faster than you can believe now," M'shan assured her.
"I dare you to tell Journeywoman Jaffra I won't be back," Doria said ruefully. The woman was scary at the best of times. At the worst… things could get ugly.
"I think I pass that job to Endoriel," M'shan grinned.
"Scared?" Doria teased. She knew she was.
"Let's put it this way: thank the egg I don't live in Dolphin Cove Weyr," M'shan was joking of course. He was pleased to see her teasing him.
She huffed, but smiled. That was until she saw a couple of men looking at her and talking, obviously about her. She thought she heard the words 'mating flight' and flushed.
Sh'dori saw those men too and her blush. The brownrider gave them fierce scowl.
Both men were unperturbed. One even raised his glass to them and grinned.
Doria grabbed her father's arm to prevent him from doing anything rash.
Sh'dori patted her hand reassuringly. He was a gentle man, he didn't go picking up fights. That didn't mean he couldn't protect his little ones if needed.
Ged decided to take care of the matter. Wearing flirty smile and putting bit of an extra swagger to his steps he went to the men. The others couldn't hear what he said to them but he had them blushing and looking embarrassed in no time.
Doria shook her head and went on weaving through the crowd. Who needed to look after herself when she had her family to do it for her? And now Naceth of course.
