Birigundi pulled off his shirt and picked up a brush before wading into the water. He gave the bathing green a wink as he approached her scrubbing rider. "Need a little help there?"
"I won't say know, and I doubt she would either. Big green flirt that she is," replied Demalia.
}:Am not!:{ interjected the green.
**You are and we all know it,** teased her rider.
He moved a little further down the dragon's body so he didn't overlap what she had done. "So how are you, Demalia? I haven't seen you in a while."
"I've been busy." She flashed him a quick grin, "You?"
"I've been a bit busy too." It seemed that he had been spending a lot of time with Nialyn lately. They had a lot of things to discuss. But then it just reminded him of why he had sought the greenrider out. "Demalia... I have a favor to ask you."
"Oh?" An eyebrow raised in question.
"Yes. I... I think I should talk to my mother face to face and tell her about Nialyn." For some reason, the thought of telling his mother that he was going to be a father made him feel even more nervous than meeting Nialyn's mother.
"And you want me to take you there?"
"If you have time." The moral support would also be appreciated, but he didn't want to show her how nervous he was about the whole thing.
"She doesn't know?"
"Not yet," he admitted. "I thought it should come from me personally rather than a letter."
"Probably best," replied Demalia. "It isn't going to be easy," she warned, pausing her her scrubbing of the green.
"I know. I don't suspect it will be." It would be easier if he knew how his mother was going to take the news that he impregnated a woman the first night they met. She wasn't Weyrfolk, after all.
"So Tapheth and I, we're the moral support?"
He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. "If you're not comfortable..."
"Biri," she said. "I'm your friend, I just want to help you." She put her brush aside for the woment, and splashed over to him. "You need us, right?"
"Yeah," he nodded. His head finally turned to look her in the eye.
"I'm here for you," she said simply. But she couldn't help wishing that the situation were different. Part of her almost wished that it was her carrying the child, not Nialyn.
