Lanniya

Lanniya stared at the table piled with hides in the record room. She
didn't even want to attempt to pick up the first bundle; instead her
eyes kept flicking towards the door. It was dusty, smelled like old
leather and worst of all it was _boring_. She groaned and leaned
forward, thunking her head on the table.

Meanwhile, Anaeryth was peering at a brown that had just landed nearby
and greeted him with a croon. }: Imalkyth. You have come to see me
again. :{

}:Yes,:{ he trumpeted as he waited for his to dismount. }:Where can
mine find yours?:{

}: She is in the dusty hides room and can see Yours now. She would
welcome company. :{ Anaeryth settled down and spread her wings. }: Sun
with me? :{

K'ale chuckled and after getting directions from a drudge finally
found the room. "Um," he smiled at the top of her head. "Are you
getting a little sleep?"

Lanniya's head shot up at the voice and her eyes widened with sudden
delight. "Oh thank Faranth, someone is here to save me." She almost
jumped out of the chair, grabbed his hand and pulled him away from the
piles of hides on the table. "Get me out of here before my brain
dies."

"Just anyone would do?" He laughed delighted by her reaction. "And
here I thought I was special."

"You _are_. You're rescuing me from the cloud of dust, mold and
endless numbers and letters that's going to make my brains squish out
of my ears." Without waiting, she tugged him out of the room and
closed the door with no small degree of relish, more than willing to
play hooky for a time. "Take me, I'm yours, just get me out of here."

His eyes twinkled with the thought of what she'd said but he was
pretty sure she hadn't meant it. "Can you leave the Weyr," he asked
taking the lead.

Her smile visibly brightened. "Yes, actually! I can...finally." Her
eyes sparkled at the thought of escaping her duties, even for a little
bit. "Right now? Where do you want to go? "

"Want to go see the ships? I hear they have a new kind at the
Seacrafter Hall." He grinned at her.

"Seacraft Hall? Sure! I'd love to." She paused. "They'd kind of notice
Anaeryth though. I think that she'd make a bit of a scene."

"Oh?" he looked at her. "Have you been there before?"

She grinned. "Sure. My grandparents were Traders, remember? But only
once. It wasn't our normal route."

"Then we should go," he smiled. "There is a hill outside the hall
where we can sit and watch with a pretty good view. I don't imagine
they'll come trudging up the hill to bother us."

Immediately tucking her arm in his, she nodded. "I'd love that." There
was a moments pause as her eyes unfocused, then a mischievous grin
widened on her face. "Anaeryth is more than ready. She wants to do
some bathing in the ocean." Her steps quickened. "Lets go!"

He trotted along with her toward the pair of dragons and soon they
were in the air. He was adept at leading groups but waited for
Anaeryth. **ask if she will provide the visual or if she'd like you to
do it.**

}: You may provide it. I will follow. I am not as familiar with the
area we are gong to and mine is very excited to be out of the Weyr.:{
Anaeryth followed the brown, watching the pair of them with interest.

The brown formed the picture above and inland from the lovely bay
where the hold perched. Moments later he gave the command to do and
they winked /between/. He grinned when they arrived in perfect
formation moments later. "Hey you're getting good," he shouted and
pointed down at the hilltop below.

She grinned at the words, but her response was lost in the wind as
Anaeryth banked. With a flourish, the gold back winged and landed with
willowy grace on the hilltop. It didn't take long for Lanniya to
unbuckle herself and slide down the gold. She tilted her head back and
took a deep breath of free, fresh air.

Imalkyth followed her down and K'ale could feel him admiring the young
gold almost as much as he admired her rider. "Beautiful isn't it," he
said when he finally stood next to her.

Her eyes twinkled along with her smile as she nodded. "It is. It feels
like I haven't been out of the Weyr in ages." As she had in the Weyr,
she looped her arm around his companionably, then watched as Anaeryth
crooned at Imalkyth before slipping into the ocean water. The gold
beckoned to him with a flip of her wing, then swam deeper until only
her eyes were visible above the smooth waves. Lanniya giggled softly.
"I think she's flirting with him."

"Oh, he's giving as good as he gets," K'ale smiled down at her. "The
water is warm here," he added. "Would you like to flirt too?"

"I'm trying not to listen to them." She then stopped and laughed. "Me?
I wouldn't have the first idea. All I know is what the greens do and I
don't have a tail or a long neck to twine." She paused. "Then again,
I've seen some of the riders flirt too." She grinned and without
guile, looked up at him and deliberately fluttered her lashes for a
moment. She wasn't able to keep it up without bursting into laughter.
"See? I can't keep from laughing."

"Cute," he chuckled. Then struck a pose with his feet spread, fists on
his hips and chest puffed out. His head turned to the side in a crazy
grin. Then without moving even his lips his eyes twisted toward her.
"Hows this?"

The pose brought a series of giggles from Lanniya as she covered her
mouth at the pose. Unable to help herself, she leaned against his
"hero" pose, laying her head on his shoulder to give an exaggerated
sigh. "Oh, my..." She fanned herself in mimicry of a besotted holder
girl. "Oh, you big strong brownrider, save me!"

"I'll save you My Lady," he said in a harper sing-song voice and
scooped her up. He turned and ran toward the water laughing the whole
way.

Lanniya squealed in delight, arms wrapped tight around his neck as he
carried her, her legs kicking. She hadn't had this much fun in ages,
it seemed. Everyone was just so serious and K'ale wasn't. It was
wonderful to just be able to have fun. "My hero!" She kissed his cheek
as they got to the shore, ignoring Anaeryth's rumble of amusement at
their play.

He ran headlong down the beach and into the water splashing as much as
humanly possible and finally flinging them both into the surf.

She shrieked with glee the moment she hit the water, the warmer water
blanketing her like a caress. Luckily the water wasn't deep and the
current wasn't strong because though she'd been practicing, Lanniya
still couldn't do much more than float or canine-paddle. She got to
her feet, the water lapping at her waist as she pushed wet hair from
her brow. She waited until K'ale appeared and with a crow of triumph,
leapt on his back. "Gotcha!"

He couldn't help the laughter as he grabbed her legs and carried her
runner style for a few steps. He whipped his head sideways to flip the
long tendrils of wet hair out of his eyes and tried to look at her.

"I've captured you." She grinned, playfully smug as she wrapped her
arms around his neck and held a little bit more snugly with her legs,
locking her ankles around his waist. "What ever are you going to do
now, hm?"

He'd done his share of playing around when he was younger so his
finger flew to the soles of her feet and began to tickle.

She immediately squealed and kicked out her feet, unlocking her ankles
and squirming. "No fair!" She giggled and hopped down. "That's
cheating."

"Oh and strangling _me_ was fair?" He laughed and pushed a handful of
water to splash her.

She laughed and caught the splash full on. "Yes. 'Cause you're bigger than me."

"And always will be," he grinned. Then he picked her up and started
back toward the beach. "Enough saving for today," he laughed.
