The healers were so infuriating. When finally Rhosyn did get an
answer, all it was that she was unconscious. They were working on her.
They'd let her know. She didn't pull her hair out since she was very
aware that A'kades was standing over there but she wished Reeva was
available and not back there somewhere. At least the Master Healer
would tell her something _real_. Blowing air out of her mouth, she
turned and walked to find a klah pot while pacing. She was still in
her nightgown. Shrugging as if it was any different than the other
sparse clothing she ran around the Weyr in, she sat down in her chair
and closed her eyes.
**How is she?** }:Vilarth has quieted but she is still pushing. I
think hers is sleeping now. She feels no pain:{ Orlaith's mindvoice
was focused, though she was still reading her rider's thoughts and
knew the worry Rhosyn was trying not to let consume her. This was a
precarious position-for them and the Weyr.
This was not the type of thing Rhosyn liked to have thrown into her
lap. Despite herself, Lenala also had become someone she liked. She
could talk to her and she knew her from before. The woman had been so
happy, the opposite of what Rhosyn had been when she'd found out she
was pregnant. Vilarth had eggs so she wouldn't leave them. They didn't
need another queen to watch her.
**Sharding-Faranth-Dawnsisters-Fort-Ruatha-and the whole cracking thing!
We have threadfall in the morning. We have threadfall.** And then a thought
flashed in her mind. She remembered Traelyn. Traelyn had been alone, without
help. Rhosyn didn't have any now. **No no no no. I can do this. I can. We
can. But maybe...** And then she made a few decisions. It would be morning
there.
}:Panitath-can yours come? Very soon please. My rider is in need of
quick help. Vilarth's is not well:{ Orlaith didn't dare to give more
information. There were too many at River Bluff that could hear.
Across the continent Panitath relayed the message and Cyradis turned
in the hallway. She'd been going to her office but instead she turned
into the Weyrleaders' Wing room. "N'vanik..." she started but instead
of her Weyrleader his 'second was there.
"Weyrwoman," R'enh stood as she came in. "Can I help you?"
"No I..." she turned getting ready to hunt for him but then turned
quickly back. "Yes," she said. "I need a ride to River Bluff and it's
a bit of a rush."
"Of course," R'enh nodded. "We'll be ready in the Weyrbowl in a few
minutes. How's that?"
"Good," she said and trotted off to her own weyr to change into her
riding leathers.
Less than half a candlemark had passed when Mnoranth burst out from
/between/ and announced his arrival with two passengers.
His arrival was marked by the watchdragon and a watchful Orlaith who was
standing in the entrance to the Hatching Grounds. Her eyes still whirled a
worried yellow but she was happy to see him. }:She is in the Infirmary:{
}:Panitath's rider and Mnoranth's rider comes:{ the queen told Rhosyn who
was talking to a healer. Her display of relief was short-lived, however,
when she realized that might attract attention. Then she realized she didn't
care.
"The infirmary," R'enh stated and steered Cyradis in the right direction.
"Rhosyn?" Cyradis called as they entered. "What's going on?" She felt
just a bit off balance without Panitath but with R'enh here she would be
just fine. "Panitath is on the sands with her clutch."
Leaving the healers, the small Weyrwoman turned to see Cyradis and
then met R'enh's eyes. She was very glad to see the both of them and
not N'vanik. Regret laced the thought but it was the truth and there
was no time to change it. Making sure no one else was around to hear
what she said, she decided R'enh may as well know too. "Lenala....the
pregnancy...she's going to lose the baby. It's upset Vilarth and Orlaith is
handling her. She won't leave because of the eggs. The healers are back
there working and I pray that Lenala will be all right but now I have an
angry queen on a clutch, a Second who has to heal and may be cracked, a
Weyr who has to fly fall tomorrow, and...." She was trying not to lose
it. Taking a deep breath, she looked up into the ceiling and shook
herself. Then she looked down and realized she was still in her
nightgown. "Solieira brought me food. A'kades is going to spend the night
here. And we...some of the guests are already here since the eggs may crack
any day now."
"I don't even have Lenala to order around. I mean...the wingleaders
are dealing with their wings and everything. Lanniya is somewhere-I
spoke to her. Hopefully she's sleeping." **Please let her be
sleeping.** "Sorry to take you away from Panitath. Shells...you can
go. But I just don't....I don't know Saibra well enough to call her
for things yet. You know when the dung hits the fan. And oh it's
there. And those healers better keep her with us." Turning back to eye a
journeyman who was rushing around with a very threatening look, Rhosyn
put her hands on her hips.
"What do you need me to do," Cyradis decided to cut to the chase. It
was obvious Rhosyn was close to being overwhelmed and her main source
of help was part of the issue at the moment. "I'll handle whatever you
need handled."
"Me too," R'enh said and stepped forward to put an arm around the
River Bluff Weyrwoman.
Trying to focus her brain for a moment, Rhosyn closed her eyes and
visibly relaxed under R'enh's touch. He was one of her oldest friends
and the relationship there would always be something she trusted. It
was easy to fall back on. Cyradis she hadn't known as long but she
trusted her too. That was saying something.
"I didn't want to leave here but I have to sleep or I won't be able to lead
the wing tomorrow. But Cyradis...do you think you have the time to be here
so I can sleep? Just in case the healers need someone to make a decision?"
Lenala didn't have any family at the Weyr. A'kades had claim to the baby but
the queenrider wasn't his weyrmate. "R'enh...K'sedel is working with the
wingleaders I think but I know people will still be worried....we have to
make sure that the Weyr is ready and rested for tomorrow despite them picking up
on the stress. Preparations have to be made...." She left it quiet, hanging
in the air. They couldn't lose Lenala. They didn't have anyone to take
her place. It would be a devastating blow. "And someone will need to
make sure no fools go near the Grounds. It's not safe."
R'enh nodded when he saw the agreement in Cyradis' eyes. "I'll go to
K'sedel and do what I can," he said. From his own interaction with
Rhosyn in the past he knew her relationship with her Weyrleader wasn't
the most comfortable. Privately he thought the other bronzerider was
fully capable of organizing his wings for 'fall and his job was simply
easing Rhosyn's mind on it.
Cyradis stepped forward and looked Rhosyn directly in the eyes. They
were almost exactly the same height. Tiny but powerful women. "You go
rest," she nodded. "I'll handle it."
Trying not to let the stress overwhelm her and realizing she had a source of
help now, Rhosyn sighed and nodded. She had just spoken with A'kades and
Jadirah and they knew she was going to sleep. Cyradis could introduce
herself to the healers. And there was already food there for her. "Feel free
to head back if they say she's completely out of the woods. I know you have
things..." Impulsively, she reached forward and hugged Cyradis. The Dolphin
Cove Weyrwoman had been someone she could lean on quite a few times recently
and she hadn't forgotten it. "Thanks. I told them I'd be in my weyr if they
need to wake me. And if you need anything, tell Solieira or whoever is up now.
Tell R'enh thanks too. Or maybe I'll see you both at breakfast before you go."
Cyradis nodded and watched her go. The knots on her shoulder might say
Dolphin Cove but there was no doubt in her attitude as she walked
further into the Infirmary. "I want a report on the condition of the
Weyrwoman's Second," she told the first Healer she met.
