Characters: Ny'n, I'lan
Description: Ny'n and I'lan talk during drills
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 16 of Turn 3

The bag of firestone came down the lines as the drill started. I'lan caught his, then rapidly tossed it onto N'yn. "Catch!" he called.

Ny'n reacted quickly to catch the heavy bag from the young bronzerider and continue on down the line. "Careful, there, you don't have to use _all_
of that young muscle you know," the brownrider quipped flashing the younger man a smile to let him know he was joking.

"It helps," the bronzerider grinned at the brownrider. "I'm trying to make sure I don't pull muscles in my shoulder again."

"Good plan, we need able bodied riders right now," Ny'n nodded holding his hand for the next bag. "So what's your opinion of the fighting wing thus far?"

"So far it's much the same as being a weyrling, drills, more drills, oh and for a change, some more drills!" He grinned again. "But I do appreciate the freedom, no more restrictions or barracks, and being able to do what I want when I get free time."

"Oh, I do remember. Thirteen turns, but I still remember," he chuckled.
"Be forwarned, though," he said pointing to his scar, "The drills are there for good purpose. I learned that one of the first times I flew thread.
Thought Damarith and I were way beyond want the wingleader was asking of us," he shook his head sadly, "I've learned to curb my thinking a bit."

"Naath keeps me safe in the air. He's like a calming influence."

"Good for him," Ny'n asnwered, giving the young bronze an approving nod.
"I've noticed the two of you fly well together." He then paused to check that the drill was still running smoothly and that it wasn't time to move on before he continued. "So in what ways have you been enjoying your extra freedoms?" was the brownrider's next friendly question wondering what type of interests the young rider might have.

"A bit more time to my craft, and my canine."

"And you are a baker, right?" Ny'n asked none too sure that he had emembered correctly.

"Bubbly pies a specialty, just ask my canine!" That in fact being how the animal got his name.

Ny'n chuckled, "If that's your specialty, you must have been popular as a candidate. I doubt you had any time at all for baking as a weryling since they aren't exactly Naath's cup of Klah."

"He did ask to try one once," said I'lan, a grin on his face. "And yes, you are right, he didn't like it. Said I should leave them for me and the furball."

The next bag of firestone, slipped in Ny'n's hand and nearly dropped. The brownrider flushed, "Shards!"

"Careful there!"

"By the first egg! That is the third time I've lost my grip on something in as many days."

"Something on your mind?" asked the bronzerider as the drill reached a conclusion.

"Nah, think I've just contracted some rare southern dropping disease," Ny'n quipped, not being completely honest.

I'lan laughed. "That's a new one, I'll have to remember that."

"Nothing a good cup of klah won't fix, I'm sure. You interested?"

"Sounds good to me."

"All this talk of bubbly pies has got my mouth watering, too. I wonder what the kitchen will have on hand," Ny'n answered.

"I have an 'in' with the cooks," grinned I'lan.

"Oh, we are definitely going to have to become better aquainted. I would love to meet your canine sometime, too. I always enjoyed them as a kid, but could never have one."

"Well... It just so happens that her has fathered another litter. I promised Gatiya I'd help her find homes for all the puppies."

"You're kidding? Haven't even considered a pet since impressing Damarith.
How do you find it? Is it difficult to have a canine at the weyr?"

"Naath doesn't mind Bubbly now, I guess he's got used to having him around.
I guess so long as Damarith won't get jealous or upset you'd be okay."

"But what does he do during the day? Does he stay in your weyr?"

"He sleeps, and yes, I do keep him inside a lot of the day. But we go for a good long run on the beach each day."

"You know, I may just have to take a look at that litter, though I will have to check with Damarith."

**What do you think?**

}:I don't mind so long as it is not annoying.:{ "I don't think he really cares one way or the other."

"I'll speak to Gatiya then, see when's convenient to go look at the puppies."

"Thanks, I'lan. Now how about we see how good of an 'in' you have with the cooks?"

"Not a problem."
