Description: I'lan and M'tias meet for a meal.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 26 of Turn 3

The young brownrider stalked into the dinnig caverns. Woenth had told him I'lan wanted to meet for a meal, but that wasn't what had M'tias in a bad mood. **Sharding B'vin** He spoted his friend at an empty table and waved, trying to reagrange his face into something more friendly.

"M'tias?" queried I'lan of his friend. Something was on his mind, that was clear. "You okay?"

"Sharding B'vin, you think he's learn his lesson by now I guess he hasn't."

"What's he done now?"

"I try to be nice. Ask him how Serenth is healing and he jums down my throat. Not my fault he's such a werries arse."

"You mean he hasn't changed at all."

"No a bit. I was hoping, because we're in the same wing, we could at least try to get along."

"He's never been easy to get along with, not even when we were all candidates together," said I'lan. Although the accident did seem to have mellowed him slightly, it obviously wasn't enough that he could manage a civil working relationship with M'tias.

"Now he's worse."

"What did he say?" asked I'lan curiously. B'vin could fly off the handle sometimes, or speak with grudging respect, and you could never tell whether that respect was to wind someone up.

"Said I ws being nosey and that it was none of my concern and too leave him alone. Thing is, now that we have to work together I can't exsactly do that."

"No, you can't really." I'lan thought for a moment, twisting his lips in concentration. "Want me to talk to him?"

"If you think it will help. I'm hopeing it's just me. I wonder what he'll do when we get a few male greenriders in the next hatching."

"Probably run down the beach screaming," suggested I'lan, wondering just how far from the truth he was.

"See, thats what worries me. I don't like the idea that he might take his prolblems out on the weyrlings. It's not that I think he'd do anything too them, but his addituide might scare them a little too much." M'tias sighed.
"To tell you the truth he reminds me of my father."

"You don't get on too well, do you? You and your father."

"I hate him." it was said without emtion, just a statment of fact. "You've meet my mother, he did that to her, made her the way she is."

That statement told I'lan all he needed to know, and also not to push the subject. M'tias' mother had finally found a safe haven in the Weyr at last.
"All of you are well away from him now."

"I may have gotten away from him, but now I've got to deal with B'vin. Did you know that when Lord Ethris congradulated him on my impression he basicly kicked the man out of his office."

"No, no I didn't," said I'lan. His own father couln't have been happier to see him impress.

"Where you seriouse about talking to him? Or sugesting to the weyrlingmaster that he see a mind healer? I'm worried that if I do it, they'll just thinkI'm being spitful."

"If you want me to, I'll try having a word first. If you think it'll help."

"I hoping so for the weyrlings."

"Anyway, onto more pleasant things. I heard a rumour about Aletta and one of those newly arrived harpers," said I'lan cahnging the subject.

M'tias grinned, he wanted to hear what I'lan ahd heard before he told him what Figol had siad. "Did you, what are they now?"

"Something about her spending a lot of time with a boy no older than you,"
he said.

"Is that all?" M'tias was suprised. Figol had made it sound like the most sorid of tales had been told.

"That was the gist of it, something about her following him around all the time."

M'tasi laughed outright. "Figol won't like that one. He says she's being weird anyway."

"You know something?"

"I apprenticeed with Figol when the hall was at Emerald Falls. I ran into him the other day and he told me about Aletta's reaction to the rumors. Said she was really upset and he doesn't get why. I told him it's just because she's a girl."

"And who knows what girls can do. They are as unpredictable as B'vin!"

"Yeah but most girls don't say things you'd like to hit them for eaither."

"No, they don't."
