Description: Ciendra and L'cor talk and the subject of experience comes up.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 11 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Kapera, Oria
The discussion with Kapera was still very much in Ciendra mind even if it
had been a month ago.
She sat at the dining cavern. Today's drills and lessons were over and
people were gathering to enjoy the evening. She found herself watching
the males, sizing them up. She needed to found one for herself before
Lialeth was ready to Rise. But it was one thing to watch them and
dream and whole different thing to actually approach them and talk to
them. She sighed and twirled the spoon in her mug. This was not her
idea how things should be going. She wanted to be romanced, not just
coldly choose someone. She wanted man to court her, bring her flowers
and small gifts, tell her nice things about her appearance. Ciendra's
expression turned dreamy, Someone to tell her how pretty she was
(Okay, one particular someone). And she was pretty, with her long dark
hair and dimpled smile, that much she had learned of herself during
her time in Weyr. The weyrlinghood was putting some muscles around her
bones and she didn't look as she could be blown away by breeze any
longer. If only she was more bold around people.
L'cor hummed as he went through the line and filled up his tray. It
wasn't often that he and Oria didn't have dinner together but she was
off on Search without him this time so he used these times to catch up
with his other friends at the Weyr. This time he knew exactly who he
was going to talk with.
"Ciendra," he smiled as he approached her table. "Anyone sitting here?"
"L'cor!" startled out of her reverie, Ciendra nearly tipped over her
mug. "Yes, I mean no, I mean it's free," she stumbled over the words.
"Good," he smiled and slid into the seat. "Haven't seen you much since
you Impressed. How's the training going."
"It's keeping me busy," Ciendra replied. "I'm a senior weyrling now,"
she blurted out.
"Oh," he smiled and nodded. She'd grown up right in front of him and
he hadn't even realized she wasn't the tormented girl he'd known.
"That's great. When do you graduate?"
"In month four, I think," Ciendra replied. "We're practising
/betweening/ just now," she continued. She drank from her mug and
watched L'cor shyly. His presence made her heart hammer and mouth to
dry out.
Outside in Weyrbowl, Lialeth decided to take matters into her
hands...well, claws. She moved closer to the bronze. }: Hi, Tonuth. My
rider likes yours. A lot. She keeps thinking of him whole time, :{ she
just blurted it out.
Of course Tonuth liked greens a great deal and Lialeth was quite
pretty }:Lialeth, you're looking very lovely today.:{ he curved his
neck around and nuzzled the young green.
}:Lialeth's likes you mine, she says a lot,:{ he told L'cor. }:Don't
you think you should fly her:{ he asked.
The soup L'cor had just ladled into his mouth choked him suddenly and
he covered his mouth with a napkin.
**Where did you get that idea?** he asked as he tried to recover his
composure by coughing.
}:Lialeth's thinks about you all the time.:{
L'cor looked at Ciendra noticing for the first time that she was no
longer a child but a young woman and a lovely one at that. "Sorry," he
said wiping his mouth. "Swallowed the wrong way."
"It happens. Are you alright?" She asked with concerned tone.
}: Your looking handsome too, :{ Lialeth purred reply to the bronze.
She was discovering that she enjoyed his attention.
Catching some of that exchange made Ciendra's cheek turn rosy pink. "I
think my dragon is flirting with yours," she said and watched his
face. Shards, he was so handsome.
He saw the look and while it made him just a tiny bit uncomfortable
he'd come to accept the ways of the Weyr in these things and sometimes
uncomfortable things were part of his duty to the Weyr and to his
friends. A half smile curved his lips. "I think she is," he said
softly.
"She's growing up so fast," Ciendra sighed. "And I...I should get
ready for it.." she was blushing furiously.
"Yes," he agreed. He knew what advice she'd been given and was pretty
sure that was where she was aiming. Thought he hadn't thought to be
one to do it himself he understood the need and had see the after
effects when one of the greenriders in his own class hadn't prepared.
Several questions ran through his mind but he discarded them as they'd
probably make her blush even more. Perhaps if he just asked... "Do you
want me to... help?"
"Yes," the word came out in one breath. "I mean," she was blushing
again, "I rather do it with someone I know and trust and l...l.. like
than with some random stranger or half-acquaintance." Ciendra was
suddenly worried that she was revealing too much and took a sip from
her mug.
Well there was a first time for everything and this would be the first
time other than a flight that he'd stepped outside the relationship
with Oria. But this was a friend and it was for the Weyr. Ciendra
needed someone she could trust and with her background he understood
that. He hadn't missed the blushes and stammering. Had he been that
young? "I assume you're taking your teas?"
"Yes," this time the answer came more firmly. "I started them after
the first /betweening/. As I was instructed by the Staff."
He rather felt a responsibility toward the girl he'd brought out of so
much oppression at Green Valley and he could almost feel his mother's
approval as he reached out a hand to cover hers. "I'm honored to help
you in any way I can Ciendra, and always will be."
"I'm very grateful that you're willing to help me," she gave him a
look of complete trust.
