K'deren

K'deren

"Are you sure about this?" Zaeryn asked, but she didn't resist Tyssa's grip
on her hand or her friend's attempt to drag her along.

"You enjoyed it last time, didn't you?" Tyssa asked, turning her face back
to Zaeryn and grinning.

"Yes, but…"

"No buts, it'll be great, I promise." Tyssa drew her toward the flight area.

Several women already stood around, waiting, watching the men as their
dragons chased. One dropped out and turned around, blinking until a blonde
took his hand and led him away.

Tyssa released her hand, her eyes focussed on one man. Zaeryn knew she had a
crush and had trying to get him to notice her. Maybe today. How could anyone
resist, especially with their blood hot from the flight. Zaeryn's was
starting to burn.

One by one, the men left the flight, most claimed by the waiting women.
Tyssa managed to take the hand of her crush and disappear. Numbers dwindled
until only a few remained.

As Donneth finally had to give up, his rider turned, finding his path
impeded by, by someone who seemed willing to give what he needed to take,
driven by the need the dragons had caused in his blood. A hand reached out
to her, "Now?" he managed to ask.

"All right," Zaeryn managed to squeak. It was easier to hold his hand than
to speak further. Fortunately an unoccupied flight room with the door open
wasn't far.

And it was a good job it wasn't far. Normally with a lover K'deren was a
patient man taking his time to make sure both parties enjoyed what was
happening. Flights were different though, they were more about a desperate
need, and that need led him to kick the door shut behind them, and start to
remove anything that was in the way of achieving release.

Zaeryn liked being able to switch off her mind and just let the flight
happen. During a flight, no one cared how shy she was, including her. She
just joined him in removing any impediments and managed to get them onto the
bed without incident.

Once there, from K'deren's point of view, simple biology took over.

Biology, in this kind of circumstance seldom takes long to be fulfilled.
Zaeryn was soon lying back, panting lightly, her body tingling with fading
pleasure.

The brownrider didn't pull away completely as he came back to himself,
taking a moment to realise and understand what had just happened. "Thank you
for being here, when I needed it," he said politely.

She blinked at him and smiled. "You're welcome. Thank you." It hasn't all
gone one way after all.

"K'deren, Donneth's rider," he said by way of introduction, although it
appeared that they had gone way beyond most first meetings. His clothing was
scattered around the flight room, along with what looked like hers as well.

"Um, Zaeryn. Journeywoman smith. Jewellery maker." She often added that to
save people from asking. Not that it wasn't obvious that she wasn't a
blacksmith. She inhaled suddenly. "You're the Weyrwoman's…"

"Weyrmate," he said, completing her sentence for her. "Right now, she's
probably making sure that's still the case."

Her blue eyes regarded him in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"In her Weyrleader's bed, doing what Panitath needs to mate successfully,"
he explained simply. Weyrborn he might be, and the facts of draconic life
had always been known to him, but sometimes, it was harder to accept than
others, especially when the woman he loved, the mother of his children was
involved.

"Ah." She nodded. "The more eggs, the better." That was the point of
goldflights after all. That was also why bronzes won the golds. "Your brown
must have tried very hard to catch her."

"He did, he's exhausted, I can tell." There was also disappointment
radiating from the brown, he knew that, and he was probably aware that most
of the bigger browns and bronze dragons probably felt the same way. The
imperative to chase was always there. "I'm proud of him for trying."

"Of course you are. It's a shame there's not a green for him after the
flight." She smiled at the thought of a handful of greens waiting to help
the losing males.

"If only there could be," a smile crossed K'deren's face. "But for some,
that wouldn't be as enjoyable," given the percentage of greenriders that
were male.

"That's true, " she agreed. She hesitated and glanced around. "I guess - we
should go…" At least this hadn't been as awkward as it might have been.

"I have my children to get back to," K'deren said. "Thank you, again, for
being there."

"You're welcome. I should get back to work." Via the kitchens for a snack.
All this talking had made her hungry.

K'deren had found his shirt and was working his way into it, he reached for
what had to be one of her garments and passed it to the young woman.
"Perhaps we'll meet again, in different circumstances."

"Maybe." She pulled on her underwear and picked up her skirt. "You might buy
some jewellery some day. For yourself or your Weyrmate." She didn't seem at
all perturbed at sharing the flight with another woman's mate.

"You never know," came the reply as a shoe was located. "She might
appreciate that for her birthing day."

"She might. I'm sure she'll tell you." Apparently that was often how
relationships worked.

"Although it'll be almost a turn before it comes around again."

"Ah. Well there's always 'just because'." She liked wearing new pieces at
any time of turn, as long as she could afford the materials. Truthfully,
that wasn't often, but making things for others was almost as rewarding.

"That there is."
