Lenala

Lenala

Lenala's gather dress was pale pink with pearl beads. Her shoes and purse
were naturally matching the dress. She had also braided string of pearls
among her dark hair. Her braids were circled around her head so it
looked like a crown made of hair and pearls. She had put on jacket and
was pulling gloves to her hands when she walked to her ledge. At least
she had the sense to had Vilarth strapped before she dressed up. She
looked her gold's shining, massive shape and turned her radiant face
towards her escort. "I am going to need help to get up on her in this
dress."

The bronzerider had dressed himself up as well. He wore dark leather
pants and a dark blue cloth tunic that was embroidered with knotwork
designs in bright thread. He'd accessorized with leather belt and a
vest he'd made himself, both with a vine pattern tooled on them. He
thought he'd looked quite respectable, but when he saw the goldrider
he knew she'd take all eyes. (As was proper for one of her status.)

"Lenala, you are positively dazzling today. You'll blow away all of
the holders with your beauty," A'kades told her as he approached. "And
of course I'll be happy assist you."

}:Hello Vilarth,:{ the bronze Volaith rumbled.

"Thank you. You're looking very handsome too," Lenala replied.

}: Volaith, :{ Vilarth purred. She was recently bathed and oiled and
shone. There was perhaps bit of extra shine that the oiling didn't
explain.

The bronze dragon was going to pay extra attention to his queen, for
sure. He knew from his rider that they would be leaving the weyr
together, and what was better than time alone with a gold? Especially
the prettiest one? He arched his neck, shifted so he was waiting in a
position that showed himself off, and watched her carefully.

"So where to?" he asked.

"Jade Harbour Hold. Rhosyn is taking Sunstone. I have no idea who is
going represent Weyr at the Garnet Valley," Lenala replied. She
gather her hem and accepted A'kedes' hand and shoulder to help her get
up.

"Jade Harbour's a pretty place. I look forward to seeing what they'll be
doing."

Once she was settled, he climbed up onto his own dragon and waited to
follow her lead.

Vilarth spread her might wings and took the air. She made an extra
circle above the Weyr to make sure everybody saw her.

**Show off,** Lenala's mind tone was full of affection when she
conjured the visualization for Jade Harbour.

Three heartbeats later they were above the hold. The sea sparkled in
brilliant blue, like only tropical ocean could. Where the river ran to
the sea, the water's colour was the jade the hold was named after.
Ships filled the port and the river ran through green hills, orchards
and cotton fields. White sands stretched along the coast. Colorful
flags fluttered in the wind, they were hang from roofs and from ship's
masts.

Vilarth announced herself to the watch dragon. The elderly brown's
greeting was suitably meek and admiring to put the gold in good mood.

Volaith appeared half a heartbeat later than the gold. A'kades gave an
admiring glance over the territory. He'd visited before for regular
gathers, but never for the big Turnover festivities. He usually spent
them back at Opal Cove. But he didn't regret not visiting home when he
saw how the Hold was transformed by the time. The sight of the flags
livening up the place was impressive.

The bronze spiraled slowly down towards the landing area for dragons,
keeping a close eye on Vilarth. }:You are the loveliest here.:{

}: Or course I am, :{ Vilarth replied matter-of-factly. Her landing
drew the usual attention from the crowd.

As soon as Lenala was down, she handed her jacket and gloves to a
drudge who scurried around, doing just that...collecting clothes from
those who arrived by dragon and took them to cloak room for safe
keeping.

Once the drudge had taken their items, the bronzerider offered her his
arm. "What do you wish to see first? The food, the stalls, the
dances?" Though perhaps the latter were later.

"As the official representative of the Weyr, I must greet the Lord
Holder and his family and the other dignitaries first. Then we are
free to see what entertainment there are. I have some shopping to do.
And I heard that after sunset Technicians' Hall will have fireworks'
show. Dances begin after that," Lenala said and taking his arm, guided
him towards the main building. She was at her best in occasions like
this, this what she was trained to do.

Meeting the dignitaries would be an interesting experience. A'kades
didn't usually get face time with them but Lenala would know what to
do, and he could trust her. Her words about a show were interesting.
"Fireworks show?"

"So I heard. Should be worth watching," Lenala said and guided him
towards the hold's main entrance.

A'kades got slightly distracted looking at the festivities and the
people passing by. They were intriguing enough that he didn't see the
young boy crossing in front of them until the kid knocked into them.

"Sorry sir, lady," the boy said, bobbing and ducking. The bronzerider
only caught sight of a tangled mop of brown hair and a snub nose
before he scurrying off.

Suddenly Lenala shrieked. "My purse! He snatched my purse! Thief!" Her
voice drew attention, people stopped and started to look around watchfully.

At Lenala's yell the bronzerider realized what had happened. He took off
after the boy, who was surprisingly fast for the little scrap of a
child. But there was a tangled curl of hair ahead of him, ducking towards
the crowded end of the market. He slipped behind a stall, muttering
apologies as he went, and fought his way through to the other side. The
child had gotten tangled in the crush of people and he finally came out of
the crowd, running right towards the bronzerider.

A'kades grabbed his arm and held it so the kid couldn't leave. He gave his
best intimidating the weyrlings forbidding expression. "Give back the
purse. It belongs to a goldrider of River Bluff Weyr. You don't want her
dragon to get angry at you."

The child burst into tears. "I's _hungry_ and I wan' some marks an' I - "

The bronzerider wasn't fooled by the emotional display. The boy could be
trying for sympathy. "Give back the purse. Now."

The kid handed it over. A'kades took it with his other hand, hoping Lenala
would have been able to follow him to inspect what was in it. "Now we
should see about turning you over to the guards." he said.

The kid's wails became louder. "I jus' waned a snack!"

Lenala had collected her hem to her hands and hurried after A'kades.
"A'kades? Are you all right?" she gave the bronzerider a worried look
when she arrived to the scene. "Did you get my purse back?" was her
second concern.

"I'm fine. Here's your purse." He waggled the arm holding it. "Make
sure he hasn't pocketed anything."

"Thank Faranth," Lenala took back her purse and inspected it's
content. Lip color, check, brush, check, marks, check, all the other
small knick knacks women managed to hide in their purses were there
too. "All is here. You're hero, A'kades," Lenala's eyes were big and
filled with admiration. The gratitude she felt was genuine. She would
have hated losing her marks. Goldrider or not, she had saved them for
this Gather. Two guards came up to investigate. Lenala introduced herself and
A'kades and told them what had happened.

"We can continue from here," the guards said, "please, release him to
our custody."

"Here you go," the bronzerider said, letting them take the kid. "I'm
just glad it all worked out, Lenala. It would have been a shame if
your Turnover was ruined."

"Me too, thank you again," Lenala gave him a kiss.

The bronzerider blushed a bit, glad his dark skin hid it.
