Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 8 of Turn 3
Ferlian waiting on the sands shifting from foot to foot. He could see his parents in the stands. Their caravan had shortened it's normal route so that it would be nearby for the hatching. He knew they were hoping to see him find his partner this time. He wasn't nervous, not about the color of his lifemate. He knew she would be a beautiful green. His parents knew it too, and they didn't mind. He was worried however that she wouldn't be there for him. She'd hadn't been for the last three turns, today would be different he was sure. He looked up at his parents again with a bright smile.
He could feel the ground vibrating with the welcoming song of the older dragons. He glanced toward C'nitak, his current lover, the man's blue above him and waved. The bluerider returned his wave with an encouraging grin. It would be too bad if he impressed Ferlian thought for a moment, he and C'nitak would have to part ways for a while. Ferlian's sudden grin had nothing to do with the hatching, when his green flew to mate, well, he was familiar with the effects flight had on particapants. It would be worth the wait.
The first egg broke reveling a handsome bronze. Ferlian smiled, knowing the proud one was meant for another. He cheered when the impression was made. Over and over again eggs shattered and hatchings sound their partners. Reymer, Rialt, Tamajan, Tijdelijk, Isaline, Khalida and so many other fellow candidates where pairing off with their new lifemates. Ferlian held his breath. He heard her then, calling his name.
}:F'lian! F'lian, I'm right here.:{ She was perfect. Not very graceful but perfect. He thought, reaching down to touch her smooth green hide, to make sure she was real.
}: Of course I'm real, my name is Gramth.:{ Her voice was the sweetest thing he had ever heard. He looked up toward his lover, C'nitak was smiling broadly. "Her name is Gramth!" He called. Encouraging her every step of the way, he lead his beloved green toward the food waiting for her.
Once she had her fill he lead her to the barrekes and sat with her, stroking her soft hide until she snored softly. He didn't want to leave her, but he wanted to see his family, and C'nitak. MOving softly he weaved his way passed the other sleeping hatchlings to the feast waiting.
"Congratulations son, she's beautiful, did you say her name was Gramth?" His father, a imposoing but kindhearted man, asked.
"Yes, and it's F'lian now father." He was grinning even more than usual.
His mother burst into tears. "I couldn't be happier for you dearest." She caught sight a a familiar bluerider behind them. "C'nitak, is little Gramth wonderful?" She wanted to make the older rider feel welcome.
C'nitak smiled warmly. "She is, I'm happy for you F'lian." he said softly. "We'll be waiting for you, but you know the rules." He reminded strenly. F'lian laughed, "I know, I know. I wouldn't dream of doing something to hurt her. I can wait."
Farian cleared his throat for moment, slightly embaressed at the implications of the statement. He didn't have any problems with his son, or his friend but he didn't want a direct reminder.
"Sorry father." The new greenrider said sheepishly.
