Yriadha interjected. She didn't try to argue, even though the cruelty
of his words stabbed at her. Her lips tightened in her now pale face.
"My Lord, I accept your decision, but I would like to press formal
claims against Taril on behalf of my son Yarmel and his family, with
Steward Eirock as a witness." Her eyes locked on Taril, the darkness
of them sparkling with outrage. She ignored Humari's soft gasp and
lifted her chin. "And I have proof."

There was a soft rap against the door and without waiting, Yriadha
opened it, murmuring to the drudge and the pulling a young, disheveled
boy in behind her. He was clean, but thin with gaunt cheeks and he
held his right hand against his chest. The first two fingers and his
thumb were missing, and it was clear that though it was healed, the
twisted scars were recent. The other fingers were twisted, clearly
previously broken and healed without being set. "This young man
confessed to me that Taril paid him to paint damning images of my son
in order to damage his name. While I don't have any proof that he was
a part of my son's disappearance, I do have proof that he had cause to
harm our family." Arnott's gaze was dull as he lifted his eyes only a
fraction, barely noticing who was around him.

Humari gasped as she recognized the boy and awkwardly rose, her soft
brown eyes hardening. She floundered as she got to her feet, but in no
way diminished the sudden look of pure fury on her face. "What have
you done to him? He's a child!" Hands on her belly, she waddled
towards Yriadha, eyes blazing as she pulled Arnott close to her and
then behind her, face red. He moved listlessly and if anything, it
made Humari's temper flare even hotter. "How could you?! He's just a
boy! How could you hurt him like that?" She drew herself up taller,
chin lifted and finally faced down her mother, forgetting in her
temper that the Lord Holder was there, that her husband was watching
and the Steward was a witness. "You beat me and I accepted it because
you thought I was a perversion! You and Yarmel _hated_ me because of
someone I chose to...to care about! But Arnott didn't do anything to
you! He just pointed out something that was probably true!." She
thrust her finger forward. "You know what I think? I think that you
and Yarmel didn't like what you saw in me because it was in you both!
You both are worse perversions than I ever was!" She held her stomach
as a flash of painful tightness went over her, but didn't let up.
"Don't you ever touch that boy again!"

Yriadha's mouth gaped open and she paled and then slowly flushed in
embarrassment and anger as she began to sputter. "I didn't...I
certainly...How dare you... "

Arnott's head slowly lifted and he blinked as he stared at Humari. A
hopeless adoration filled his gaze, raw and unchained. He spoke
softly, making Yriadha's words stop. "Taril didn't pay me to do
nuthin'. Did it on my own." He held his hand close to his chest, but
his eyes never left Humari. "Headwoman didn't do this neither. Yarmel
had me da' do it and they cast me off. Said I was no good." His gaze
dropped again and his shoulder's hunched as though expecting a blow.

Bryvin pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath before
looking at Taril and Eirock.

"The only thing I've ever paid Arnott for is carrying messages and odd
jobs around the dock," Taril said coldly. He was angry again, the
relief he'd felt at Bryvin reinstating his marriage spoiled by what
Yriadha had done. Arnott was _maimed_. "The last time I saw the boy he
was in perfect health-- and had all his fingers. Eirock can vouch for
the fact that I've been looking for him. And if Yarmel did anything to
that boy, he did it because Yriadha told him to."

Bryvin took in the entire scene and his anger soared to another
magnitude. Should Yarmel have still been alive this would have but
added to the reasons to have him killed. None of his thoughts showed on
his face though as he turned to the boy. "Thank you for your testimony
young man. You have been very brave. Humari," he turned to Taril's
wife. "Would you take him and make sure he's cared for? Eirock and I
will look into the matter more closely." Then he looked at her again.
"Are you alright?"

Yriadha was about to shoot back a hot comment to Taril when she
finally noticed her daughter's pinched face. Her brows snapped down,
then her eyes widened.

Humari grimaced slightly at another sharp pang. "I'll take good
care..." She gasped as her stomach tightened and she cupped her belly
with her arms. "It's too early..." She gasped softly and looked up at
Taril, her expression suddenly panicked. "It's too early, I'm not
ready!"

Yriadha rushed forward, catching the half bent Humari in her arms.
"Easy. Easy. We'll call a Healer..." Her voice was surprisingly
soothing.

Humari pushed her away. "Get away from me!" She breathed hard through
her teeth and took another deep breath.

Taril had moved toward his wife, but Yriadha had been so much quicker.
Inwardly cursing his disability, he wrapped an arm around Humari's shoulder
and put himself between his wife and his mother-in-law. "You'll be fine,
it'll be all right," he murmured, and heedless of the audience planted a
quick kiss in her hair.

Bryvin eyed his Steward, "Pick her up and take her to the infirmary,"
he said knowing Taril couldn't do it much has he might like to.
"You'll be fine," he nodded to Humari. "You go and take care of
anything they need alright?" He dropped a gentle hand on Arnott's shoulder.

Arnott nodded, his eyes locked on Humari worriedly as she leaned against her
husband. Eyeing Yriadha and uncertain of the worried look on the Headwoman's
face, he glanced up at the Lord Holder. "I'll go tell the infirmary that
she's comin'." Still eyeing Yriadha to make sure she wouldn't stop him, he
darted out the door on fast feet.

Eirock had been struggling with keeping a rein on his own temper in a
way he hadn't for turns. He could related all too well to this
situation and his hands curled into fists, feeling where his own
fingers had been broken as a child, though his mother had seen them
properly set. Rather than do or say anything to exacerbate an already
bad situation, the Steward had been trying to calm himself prior to
reacting. Responding to Humari's distress and Bryan's command, he
soughed off his fury in order to take care of the more imminent
emergency. Gently, he lifted Humari into his arms giving Taril a
quick look of encouragement before he headed after the young Arnott.
