Description: Eirock asks Telemon to take a look at his shoulder.
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 11, day 21 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Bryvin, Xeladrie, Sophque
After returning to the shelter and checking to make sure all of the
rescue crews were in, Eirock reported to Bryvin. He had to smile at
the cozy image of the Lord Holder with the lovely Lady Xeladrie
enfolded in his arms. With the baby on the way and the affectionate
display today, it certainly looked as if the marriage was going well.
Deciding to follow-up on Sophque's suggestion, Eirock sought out the
Healer, once he'd seen to his other duties. His shoulder was
throbbing by this point in time and at the very least he would like to
have some numbweed applied. Master Telemon, if things have settled
down for you, might I trouble you for a moment?"
"What can I do you for you, steward? No one seems to be in a brink of
dying or giving a birth right now, so I am available," Telemon
replied, giving a sideways glance towards a very pregnant holdwoman,
who looked like she could pop out her baby any day now.
Noting the Healer's look toward the gravid woman Eirock grinned.
"I'll move out of your way right quick if that should change. I
wondered if you might take a quick peek at the back of my shoulder, I
took a tree branch full on while I was helping to get people to the
shelter." He almost smiled at the thought of Sophque cradled in his
arms. "I'm sure it's nothing serious but it's giving me a little
discomfort." By this time, that was an understatement as his shoulder
actually hurt significantly.
"Let me take alook. At least a little numbweed will make you more
comfortable," Telemon turned to pick up the needed supplies. "Can you
take off your shirt, please."
Eirock did so, unable to see the deep purple spreading across the
right side of his upper back and shoulder. "The shoulder's stiffened
up just a bit in the past candlemark," he commented.
Telemon made a sympathetic grunt when he saw the mark on his back.
"Exactly how big was the branch?" he asked. He had expected something
less showy. No wonder his muscles were stiff, they were badly bruised
and swelling.
"Substantial," Eirock answered dryly. "I tried to avoid it altogether
but the best I could do was to take the brunt of it on my shoulder.
There's going to be quite a mess to clean up once the storm has
passed, I can tell you that," he added thinking of all the damage the
winds must have done to the Hold and surrounding area as well as the
debris that would be scattered about
"You should have come to me right away. Now the swelling has already
set in and it's too late to do anything for it," Telemon scolded. "I'm
going to have to poke and probe around here now. Do not try to be a
brave and down play it. I _need_ to know where it hurts and where it
hurts most to estimate the damage," Telemon told him.
"Very well, I'll be ruthlessly honest," Eirock replied, his lips
quirking at the Healer's reprimand. He thought of pointing out that
he'd been seeing to relatively important matters not sitting and
sipping tea, but the first promised poke completely distracted him.
"I can definitely feel that," he said with a stony face. "It hurts
where your pressing but also radiates toward my arm."
"The bruising goes deep to your muscle tissue. So deep that I can't
rule out ligament damage or hairline fracture in the shoulder blade,"
Telemon diagnosed. He then rinsed the area with redwort to prevent
skin blistering before applying the numbweed. "You need to keep your
shoulder immobile for it to heal properly," he told the steward while
the numbweed salve took an effect.
With a small sigh of relief as the numbeweed started to take effect,
Eirock cocked an eye at the healer's final words. "You mean a sling?
Is that really going to be necessary?" A sling was rather inconvenient
when it came to getting things done and seemed excessive for a bruise.
"If the bone is fractured and if you want keep the use of your
shoulder. After two or three days, come back for check up. By then I
can tell from the way it's started to heal if the sling is necessary,"
Telemon answered. He put light dressing on the bruise, mostly to
prevent the numbweed being rubbed off by clothing.
Eirock sighed, but nodded his acceptance of Telemon's verdict. He
certainly didn't want to end up losing the use of his shoulder, though
now that the numbweed had taken the edge off of the pain, he wondered
if it was really all that bad. He pulled on his shirt and offered
verbal ascent. "Very well. How are your other patients doing? Did
any of the other crews bring in anyone with significant injuries?"
"The head injury is giving us concern, since he's not regained
consciousness yet," Telemon replied. At the same time he folded him a
cloth to a triangle shaped sling.
"I was worried when we brought him in. There was so much blood, but
then head wounds do tend to bleed. I should speak to the family. Has
he been the worst so far?" Eirock extended his arm slightly so that
the Healer could fit the sling.
"Yes. There's some bruises and scrapes and one sprained knee so far,"
Telemon replied and slid the sling in place.
"That's good to hear. My thanks for your care," the Steward said as
he settled his arm into the sling, looking up sharply when he heard a
distressing moan from the pregnant woman.
"Just doing my job," Telemon replied, then his attention was drawn to
the woman. "Look's like there's going to be hurricane-baby."
"That's my cue to be moving on then," Eirock stated, not in the least
bit comfortable with the idea of being anywhere near the labor and
delivery. "I'll check back with you in a couple days."
"Don't hesitate to drop by if that shoulder bothers you or numbweed's
effect wears out," Telemon said.
"I won't. Thanks again."
