Favourite childhood TV shows?

My three year old currently rules the daytime TV roost with a selection of TV shows from Dora the Explorer and Fifi and the Flowertots to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Franny's Feet.

Now I'm almost forty years older than Cailee, but I can still remember some of the shows that I watched as a child - Bill and Ben, The Magic Roundabout, The Herbs and The Banana Splits, to name just a few.

What shows did you watch as a child that you can still remember now?

(Incidentally Cailee also watches Bill and Ben The Flowerpot Men, but they're much more animated than the ones I used to watch.)

My everyday viewing was Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room. Saturdays I watched Lassie, Sky King, and a bunch of other shows that are a jumble in my mind.

Sesame Street was my educational-type little kid show. Me and my sisters watched PeeWee's Playhouse too! Every now and then we'd watch a little bit of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, but none of us liked it very much.

I watched a lot of cartoons when I was a kid too: My Little Pony, Care Bears, The Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats, She-Ra and He-Man, Duck Tails, Darkwing Duck, X-Men, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and so on.

I've always enjoyed cartoons... still do!

I still get up on Saturday mornings to watch them!

I watched the normal amount of educational kids shows.  Sesame Street, Blues Clues and the like.  But I had a thing for cartoons as a kid, when I was watching tv at all.

Even at five I had a slight obsession with anime.  I loved to watch Pokemon and Digimon and actually when I was four I used to get up at 7:30am on Saturday mornings, sneek into my parents room, sit on their floor and watch Sailor Moon on their tv.  Its one of my earliest tv memories actually.

LOL. Pokemon and Digimon seem like today cartoons.  not cartoons when i was a kid... I feel old!!!  

I LOVE Scooby Doo!!!  Did anyone besides me watch the "Where have you been Scooby Doo?" Marathon that was on the cartoon network this weekend?  I was in Scooby heaven.

I don't think there ARE any good cartoons on today.    Thundercats rocked and I liked the Hanna Barbara cartoons - Space Ghost, etc...remember Schmoo? And the Herculoids?

as far as shows go, I watched Captain Kangaroo and the Electric Company!  I LOVED The Electric company.   I watched The Muppet Show too.  

Does anyone else remember the show called "The Tomorrow People"?  I adored that show too... I wish it was still on today LOL.

I'm a 'Muppet Show' and 'Fraggle Rock' baby. Damn, but did I love them muppets!

I also watched 'He-Man' and 'Hercules' and I liked 'My Little Pony'. I don't remember watching 'She-Ra' but I do remember being really disappointed on my first plane ride when I didn't see any Care Bears. I never much cared for the old Hanna-Barbara cartoons, or for Bugs Bunny.

Does anyone else remember a cartoon about a vampire duck that ate veggies because his Igor accidentally poured ketchup instead of blood into his rejuvination potion? I rather liked that one...

Hmmm, Fraggle Rock, Sesame Street, Romper Room and Mr. Roger's all are my educational type shows.  But, like most before me, I've enjoyed cartoons too! My Little Pony, Xmen, He-man, Transformers, Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and lots more that I don't remember names for, but I remember WHAT they were.  

Pat, as far as Sailor Moon, I remember getting up early and getting ready for school while I had Sailor Moon playing.  One of hte local channels used to play it at 6 in the morning.  I'm still in love w/ that anime! I have all the manga for it. It's so great.

I remember some of the programmes mentioned but not many!  Dangermouse.  Magic Roundabout.  I don't think I watched a lot of tv as a kid.

No I'm not old enough to remember them first time around, they were repeats when I was old enough to watch TV - Kaysea, you might have seen them in the early 1970's though.

wow, I remember watching dangermouse! That's one of those remember the cartoon, but don't remember the name until someone else says it.  I tell you what, though, the older cartoons are better, otherwise, why would they be remaking everything from the 80's and before?

I'm old enough to remember the original episodes of The Tomorrow People.  I was about eight or nine when the series began and thought Peter Vaughan-Clarke was the most gorgeous thing on TV.  I think he must have been my first ever TV crush.  He played Stephen in the original episodes.  



My tastes have changed a little since then.

And for some reason Camberwick Green strikes a chord as well.  Hmmm!?!
