Favourite childhood TV shows?

Wow. So many great shows! Let's see..

Salute your Shorts, Darkwing DUck, Gargoyles, Rainbow Bright, Reading Rainbow, He-Man, She-Ra, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Captain Planet, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, All the Hanna-Barbara cartoons, My LIttle Ponies, Transformers, Smurfs, CareBears, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Fraggle Rock, FLintstones, Yogu Bear, The Muppets Show, Bill-Nye, DUcktails, Looney Tunes, The Wild Thornberries, Clarissa Explains it All, Mister Roger's Neighborhood...

There are more, but I'm not remembering them at the moment. I was mostly a cartoon child, but anime didn't start being played on television where I was until I reached college. I'm still collecting a lot of these cartoons! *blush*

I loved watching the Dinosaur show with the cute little baby dino. We even had a board game about the show. Alf was my brother's favorite character when he was little. He had an Alf puppet and his blankie that went almost everywhere with him.

I look at the shows that my nephew likes to watch and cringe. They are nothing like the shows I used to watch and the ones that are coming back are too updated. Strawberry shortcake looks strange wearing jeans.

I liked Bugs Bunny and the Looney Toons co, as well as Scooby-Doo. Those were the only cartoons I watched. When I had cable to watch, that is, which wasn't often. So I probably only saw these things a few times a year when at houses that weren't mine.

When I didn't have cable, I made do with my mother's HUGE collection of VCR-taped sci-fi. I swear, she had almost all of classic Trek taped. She also had all of the first Battlestar Galactica, which is still my favorite TV show. The Star Wars trilogy, Buck Rogers, Knight Rider, The A-Team and more, she all had tapes of. (I'm sure being exposed to all this as a kid has warped my perspective on life.) I think I'm such a SW/ST novel reader because I couldn't get enough once I'd seen it all.

I had a really amazing 1st grade teacher who discovered my love of Trek and nourished it. When she learned I didn't have cable, she started taping episodes of TNG. When the tape was full she'd give it to me, I'd watch it, I'd return it, and she'd tape more. The same happened with DS9 and Voyager, until I got cable permanently in 1997. I am so grateful that that teacher cared enough to not only do that one year while I was in her class, but future years. She told me when I graduated HS that she did it because ST has wonderful role models and she noticed it helped encourage my interest in science.
