I hardly ever get donuts anymore, but when I do, it's a special time and I go to Krispy Kreme :love5: Those donuts are so amazing...

When I visited my Pern fandom friends in the US in 2004 I was taken to ... some donut place ... where you got free donut when they were being cooked?

I was so impressed I was going to buy half the shop and take it home to her place for tea, but she convinced me that a big box would do as they would taste different once they weren't hot.

Huh. She was right. Great disappointment. :( But we did have left over donuts for breakfast the next morning, which was neat.

And you know we call those donuts with holes 'American donuts'. Our real donuts are different.

Krispe Creames aren't bad. We had one store when I left Washington, but I'm sure there are more now. But personally, I prefer the cream fille ones I could buy at the supermarket. The chocolate ones with custard filling. Or the sugary ones with lemon inside...

Or else good old fashioned donuts.

Oooo, and maple bars..... APPLE FRITTERS with nice doughy centers........

Okay, I admit... I hate Krispy Kreme. Maybe it's because they are EVERYWHERE down here... but people are constantly bringing those donuts around and they are too crazy for me. It's like eating fried sugar covered in grease!

Really? Everyones crazy about them up here. Most likely because the nearest one is like, three states away, but they were the biggest thing for a long while.

Ditto! The fried sugar covered in grease is what makes them so good!!

I love Krispy Kreme! When I pass one and the light is on (indicating the donuts are fresh and warm and oh so yummy!) I almost always stop. lol

Personally I dislike Krispy Kreme as well. They are not the nicest donuts I have ever had - have to agree with Bree as far as the deep fried sugar goes.

We have only had one in Victoria for the past 12 months or so, and the to do about them when they opened. Sheesh. Daughters boyfriend at the time, drove 45 minutes, each way, to buy two dozen of them and they were crap. Of course, with all that sugar, the kids loved them, but I'm sorry I have a more defined palate.

I have to say - that I have never had a Krispy Kreme - they are only in the South here. The nearest outlet has to be 100 miles away at least.

And as it's Passover.... No doughnuts anyway until next Wednesday!

The best donuts ever come from this tiny little place near me called Allie's. They have been around forever... when my dad visits the area (he went to college around here) he always has to stop to get some!

Yeah, its often the little places that's the best. I remember I went to Ashland, Oregon, for the Shakespeare festival many many years ago, and I will always remember Puck's Donuts. I got a dinner plate sized apple fritter that was certainly unforgetable!

In PA, the day before Ash Wednesday is known as Fastnacht Day or Donut Day. This year I bought some homemade ones, still warm, made at a little church near here. Yes, they were raised donuts (made with yeast as opposed to cake donuts made with baking powder), but since they were warm, they hit the spot!

Oh! I almost forgot about Paine's donuts! They are the really super old-fashion kind, that only come in two types, glazed or sugar. They are really, really good!

(I feel I need to point out that despite what this topic might suggest, I really very rarely actually eat donuts! Coffee on the otherhand is a totally different story..."
