I have very eclectic tastes when it comes to music.
Currently in my car CD changer: Mika, Bon Jovi, U2, Cat Stevens, Guns'n'Roses, Bob Marley.

I don't know if it would be considered traditional, but I love Tao - a taiko drumming and flute group.  But they're rather modern.

No, I haven't heard of it.

I do like the shamisen though (Japanese guitar-like instrument).

There's some shamisen on their album too.  I really like what they did.  In fact, one of the pieces they performed was used in Blade Runner!

I just went to see the Foo Fighters last night. *g* It was stuffed full of awesome and Mr Grohl is an amazing artist. My only 'issue' was the amount of guitar wankery - a little is good, but 1/4 of the concert? Too much. :P But still awesome.

I'm a modern rock kind of girl, although I do delve into electronica, folk, and blues. Sometimes a little pop, if it's well done and innovative. Right now I'm playing lots of Modest Mouse, Minuit, the Dandy Warhols, Beck, and St Germaine. [/list]

ooooooooo Glad you had a good time!

But I have to admit, I'm one of those totally weird people who actually doesn't get excited about going to concerts.  It's not that I don't enjoy the concert once I'm there, but I usually go just 'cause my friends begged me to.  I could take it or leave it.  There isn't anyone that I would go totally out of my way to watch.  I actually prefer the album to a live concert - I get to hear exactly the songs I really want to hear, the sound is always incredible, I know all the songs, no one is pushing for a better view or stomping on your toes, no one is screaming in your ear, no awkward attempts at being dramatic that just distract from the music, your ears are fine at the end of it, you can sit when you want to sit and not miss anything, and it's never a disappointing experience.

Although, that being said, oddly enough, I actually wouldn't mind going to a Bette Middler or Celine Dion concert.  The reason is because I actually watched a behind the scenes of both of them, and Celine Dion has an incredible attention to detail that I would be curious to see played out, and I want to see Bette Middler because she was absolutely hilarious on stage!

I like heavy metal and hard rock. (Or just rock in the general).
I'm not pick though so I listen lot of other music too (except rap, I just don't understand rap).  Usually I just live under the principle: whatever comes from the radio.

I have pretty odd tastes in music.  My husband was a drummer in a christian hardcore punk band for about 8 years so I was innundated with punk and it still pretty much holds most of my attention.  He's a studio drummer now (he plays drums for people who are recording albums, or he's fill in with random bands that have a show and their drummer can't perform that night) and we've got Jazz, Funk, or 80-90's rock playing in the house alot now.  We also love Filk (it's where you take a tune and change the words to tell a different story, think Weird Al Yankovich) and I'm a big fan of Movie and Television composers.  I've got just about all of Michael Kamen, Henry Mancini, Howard Shore, John Williams, Pasil Poldouris, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, David Arnold, plus several others music from their various movies.  My dad and I are so good at picking them all out we'll put one of our theme discs on during car rides or family get togethers and hit random and then try and be the first to figure out which movie it is.  (yes we're geeks, but it's fun)  :geek:

I'm a big fan of Cake, Alanis Morissette, the Beatles, Bob Marley, Enya, and more.

Green Day, Flogging Molly, and the Barenaked Ladies are great groups for when I'm at the gym and need motivation.

I also have a soft spot for terrible Spanish/Latin American and Italian music.  I try to justify listening to those songs by telling myself that they're in another language, so it's a learning experience.

For anyone who likes Eastern European music, there's a group called Kitka that's absolutely amazing.  They're from the Bay Area, where I grew up, so I've had the chance to go to a number of their concerts and workshops.  They're wonderful to listen to while doing homework or relaxing.

I have that soundtrack!  I haven't even opened it yet.  I must remedy that.  We got to see it on the stage.  I can't remember if there are any bad words in any of the songs.  Are there?  If not, I can play it around my children.

I've seen it three times, on Broadway, in San Francisco, and in Cleveland.  The Broadway version was the best, but each time was wonderful.  I can't remember there being any bad words in the songs, but maybe you should listen to it when the kids aren't there the first time, just to make sure. =)
