To explain further:
Patrick and friends have a team and will compete March 28th.
I am an adult volunteer in a different state, but as a regional problem captain, it is my responsibility to train the judges for that problem for my region and to see that the competition goes smoothly. I also act as a judge for my state's competition.

Our Coach is the Regional Coordinator for our District so we know all the ins and outs.  I've never done a structure of vehicle problem because neither me or any of my teammates are the least bit structured.  We hav problem just building the set!

Looks very interesting.  Since it's been going 25 years, are there any other Triad folk who have participated in the past?

I've never done this, however I did do Future Problem Solvers (an international program) ever since 6th grade. You get given a one-page scenario sheet on a topic. It's a future scene and sets a stage involving a location, a time, and a problem. Your team's job is to follow the 6 stage process, which involves finding the problems with the scenario, finding the biggest problem, finding solutions, rating solutions, picking the best solution and creating an action plan. My team has advanced to States level 3 times. Never to Internationals :(

In my high school years I started doing scenario writing, which was an FPS branch. You picked one of the 5 topics for the year and wrote a short story set at least 25 years in the future. It had to be related to your topic and under 1,500 words. I won second place in Florida, sixth place in Florida, third place Florida, and ninth place National, my 9th-12th years respectively.

I did OM, but Speech was my baby. I started going to varsity speech meets when I was 12, and even went the state competition in Creative Expression (a free for all where you wrote your own speech on any topic and had to perform it with the use of a chair as a prop. *g*) when I was 16. I didn't place, but being in the top 16 in Minnesota was good enough for me. *g*

My senior year I was the Captain and then the co-Coach of my school's team. I actually ended up taking the team to meets once or twice as Captain when the real Captain had something come up. :D I started my bossy days early, obviously.

I did everything, though. OM, Speech, Knowledge Bowl, Mock Trial, German Club, Spanish Club, Yearbook, Drama... I really liked activities. :D

I do a few. OM, Drama, Chamber Singers, Band (except for this year due to scheduling problems), RFA (Regional Fine Arts), Civil Rights Team, Amnesty, um... Triad. (It SHOULD be a extracurricular activity.  Its the funnest of all.)  On an OM note my team went to Worlds my freshman year and got one tenth of a point lower than the winning team in our long term problem last year.  If we had scored higher on our Spontaneous we would have won. ow well, this year...

I was in the Marching Band freshman year (competition field marching and best in the state that year) and i was manager for the Track Team for a year since a bunch of my friends were on it and begged me to do it.

Yeah... that was it...  I really didn't do a whole lot either.  Then again, its kinda hard to get into all that kind of stuff when you go to four high schools in four cities in four years ;)

My senior year I was the Captain ... I started my bossy days early, obviously.

Extracirricular activities make school more fun, I think.

I was in the Art Club in highschool... unsurprisingly, the Art Club always won the Best Float award in the Homecoming Parade.

In college I was in the PTK and was always real active... went to meetings, helped out with fundraisers and events, did the volunteer work and so on. It was fun.

Here's a complaint, unrelated to that: Why's it got to be warm and sunny during the week, when I'm stuck in an office for the better part of the day, but it's supposed to be gross and stormy all this weekend? How's that fair? Not that I get weekends off or anything... it's more the principle of the thing. lol

The Science Channel answered that a few months ago.  Cities are filled during the week, making the air in and above them warmer.  On weekends, when those areas are less populated and fewer vehicles heating the air, it  cools and allows the water vapor of condense and fall upon your head.

My boss is a giant idiot.

Tell me, friends, if your servers have been hacked and untold havoc has been caused (deleting of templates, files, whole sections of database missing), which would you rather have happen?

Choice A: You are down for the entire day, meaning you lose a day's money, but your system is rebuilt much more securely making it highly unlikely such a thing would happen again anytime in the near future.

Choice B: You only lose half a day, and everything that can be reuploaded from the backups is, BUT your system is exactly as it was. So the next guy who decides to hack basicly has a welcome mat.

I know what I would choose.

I'd pick A. Clearly. Losing one day's money now can prevent you from losing more money in the future if it happens again because you didn't make it secure when you could.
