Complaining!

I was always very boring during finals. I am a firm believer in the "sleep before a test" method of test taking. :D And as often as possible, taking tests without being in an altered state due to too much coffee/soda/etc.

Coding, on the other hand... ahhhh. I love to do homework under the influence of caffiene. :D

Back to complaining:
It's not even 5 a.m. here and I've been awake since before 3:00. The problem? Pain.

Due to the Pit Bull Incident, I took off work Tuesday and went to the doc to have my knee checked. She took a look, said, "Won't help to x-ray it b/c it's probably ligament damange. You need an MRI."
Ok, they scheduled one for me and off I went to the imaging center, lay still for 40 minutes, hoping my back wouldn't start spasming, and as I left was told, "The results will be faxed to your doc in 24 to 48 hours."
During the drive home I puzzled over this, since I hadn't been told what to do about the injury. I arrived home, called the doctor's office, was told that the question would be referred to the doctor. An hour or so later a nurse called, said the doc wouldn't know what treatment to use until the results were back, so take ibuprofen and go back to work.

Yesterday I went back to work, tried very hard not to put my knee at risk in any way, but still was kicked in the foot (jarred the whole way up my leg) and a 70-pound 4-year-old decided to push off against my knee when he was rising from sitting on the floor. I went home in pain, went to bed early b/c I really wasn't feeling well.

At 8:30, the phone rang -- the nurse telling me that the MRI showed Baker cyst, arthritis, and possible ligament tear (wasn't that the reason for tests). Recommendation: follow the prescribed course of treatment and keep all follow-up appointments. I told her that there were no follow-ups scheduled, so she decided to leave a note for the doc to recommend for that. Then I pointed out that the "treatment" was ibuprofen and return to work -- which brought on dead silence. Finally she asked "no other medication? Is it still bothering you?" She has placed a note for the doctor to review the treatment plan, but what now? Do I work today or not?

I'd say not work. If you're in enough pain that you needed to see a doctor about it I wouldn't go to work. Especially if you risk compounding the injury.

On a complaining note. Its 6:30 AM and I'm getting yelled at.

I'm on this fursona RP because one of my friends at school said they desperately wanted members so I joined. It's not my favorite thing on the planet and I haven't exactly done massive amounts of fursona Role Playing, but I know the basics and the world is just AMAZING. They've been working on it for three years and it shows.

So I joined. It's ok and you can tell the people are very good Role players, but one of the members (there are only 4 counting myself) can be very rude. I've been trying to find a way to bring a human like character into the storyline, and thought I had an good idea that might work. I told my friend first and though she wasn't 100% on board she told me she'd run it by the other member (because they work as a pair to figure out whats canon). Well either that person has had a VERY bad home life or they're just a b**** because she FLIPPED OUT.

They RP in a round robin style. Which is ok for email I guess but it doesn't much work for a message board RP I think. And I want to feel included and a part of it all. So she asks for ideas on how to get the plot working again. So I offer my two cents and say on the off note some of my favorite things to write about. She basically shoots down ALL my ideas, and my Role Playing style and the fact that I miss opposable thumbs. I mean I don't mind being told an idea doesn't work, but do you have to be so mean about how you say it?

I don't like the way I keep getting shot down, but I don't want to leave because every new member they get leaves (and now I see why.) so what should I do? Should I stay and live through the criticism or should I leave like I keep getting told to do when I try to be active in the club?

Patrick, be very honest: tell them that you want to make it work b/c they have a good premise but that you are on the brink because of the attitudes expressed toward you, particularly the insults that should have no place in an rpg. Either they can work it out, or you can leave, but at least they wouldn't be able to say that they don't know why members keep leaving.

I agree with Vix. Honesty is good. Polite honesty is the best. :D As long as you don't point it out in a triumphant or condescending manner, (Like: "I see now why all of your members quit!") you can at least know that you tried.

And if they can't handle that... well, they're never going to have a lot of members. ;) I can't even count the number of criticisms I get in a week. :D But it's part of running a club... you've got to try your best to adapt.

I'm going to third Vix's advice. My main rule of thumb when it comes to pbems is that they are HOBBIES. They should be FUN. If they are NOT FUN, then there is NO POINT. If there are problems that create drama, the best thing to do is try to discuss it to see if it can be worked out, and if not, then... well, for your friend's sake you tried.

Sometimes you need to look out for yourself, because nobody else will. :P

My own complaint:

So, I get called on the carpet this morning. Apparently the Vendor Held Desk agents are annoyed with Senior Support in general, and me in particular.

The complaint against me, from all 3 call centers is that I am rude. The primary example of my rudeness appears to be my perceived annoyance when they escalate a case to me without UserId's, Passwords or duplication steps. In other words, the very things they are expected to have in place for me when they call Senior Support.

Heaven forbid I hurt their feelings by asking them to do their jobs

This afternoon we get this, in an e-mail:
"From this point on we would like to focus on feedback related to communication issues or poor customer service skills only, feedback regarding agents that don't follow process, or don't know the technical answers are no longer needed"

Not as bad this time it doesn't seem, from what I'm overhearing from the IT guys. They didn't delete anything this time. They just uploaded a lot of stuff that does things I'm not technical enough to know about... but basicly they're hijacking our servers and using them to host spyware and phishing sites in place of our own sites - and part of the problem is that we've got SO MANY sites that it takes forever to hunt them all down. But at least this time they didn't delete what was already there!

Hopefully THIS will make boss-man decide that hey, a little effort spent in securing our systems is effing worth it!

I've spent nearly 16 hours total on this stupid assignment, and I'm maybe 40% of the way done. MAYBE.

My final class was much the same: it was only a 4-week course and even though I had worked on my project in other classes, the culmination of it was miserable. I'd go to work, come home, spend 5 to 6 hours in classwork, and then 12 hours each weekend day. I was sooooo glad when that course was done. Of course, when that was finished, so was the degree, so it was even sweeter.

Ok, here's my complaint: I started physical therapy yesterday. Two to three times each week for at least the next three weeks, I will have to spend an hour with the PT. In addition, I need to spend 1/2 hour twice each day exercising the leg at home. All of this is followed by ice massage until my knee is numb. This takes chunks of my time that I don't really want to give.
And it hurts!

At the moment, I'm not very kindly disposed to dogs or dog owners.

Just remember that not all dogs are bad, nor are all dog owners!

We have 3 dogs, all collies. We just put in a fenced in yard for them and before that they were never allowed off leash... but I know where you are coming from. Our neighbors are really irresponsible with their dogs and never keep them tied up. One of our friends delievers UPS and he hates coming to our neighborhood because their dogs get in the way of his truck and just generally cause trouble.
