Thayde

Thayde

He'd been working with the young Master since his return, and Famell
knew that he'd made the right choice. He'd asked Thayde to meet him in
his office this morning for a nice little chat.

Shrugging into a tunic over his swimming attire, Thayde's hair was
still a bit damp as he entered the Hallmaster's office, "Good morning
sir."

"Good morning. I see you've already been out and about," Famell
gestured towards Thayde's wet hair, a smile dancing on his lips.
"Hopefully I didn't take you away from anything too important this
morning."

Thayde shook his head, a little smile lingering on his face, "Not at
all. I decided to join some of the apprentices for their morning
exercises. I forgot how vigorous that training can be." A hard regimen
had to be followed in order to get one's body swim ready, especially
when swimming and holding your breath for long periods of time were
required.

Famell grinned. "Yes, vigorous to say the least! I've realized
recently that as we advance in rank sometimes we get out of practice.
I could use a bit of extra exercises myself." He thought back to the
last long swim he'd taken with Shilara and he couldn't quite hide his
grin.

"Anyway, that isn't why I asked you here, but it would be good to
organize some regular exercises for some of the Masters to partake in
again. Perhaps that is something you would be interested in leading?"
Famell raised a brow as he asked the question.

Thayde nodded in his easy going manner, "Sure thing. I will mention it
at our next meeting."

"Excellent. Just another reason I can depend on your Thayde," Famell
paused, leaning back in his chair as though trying to be casual. He
failed a bit at casual as he used that to headway into the real reason
for the visit. "Speaking of depending on you. You've done an excellent
job filling in as Hallsecond when the Hall needed you more than ever.
I want to thank you personally for that."

"Of course, sir, just doing my duty." Thayde had always taken his
craft rather seriously. Not that he didn't know how to have fun when
he had leisure time, but when he was at work he gave one-hundred
percent. He was glad that the Hallmaster was apparently pleased with
how he had handled things in his absence.

"Problem is," Famell began, "we are _still_ lacking a formal
Hallsecond. I was thinking it was high time to take care of that." He
paused, waiting for Thayde's reaction.

Thayde nodded, that was a problem. He turned his dark brown eyes back
up to the Hallmaster, "That is true, sir. Anyone in particular on your
mind?" Naton had made Mastery at the same time Thayde had, and he was
older, more experienced, Thayde was sure that he was probably the
first pick on Famell's list of Masters eligible for the position.

"Aye," Famell paused, "one in particular." He let the silence sit
between them a moment before adding, "And I've been pleased with his
work in that role so far." He gave a rather large grin at Thayde,
hoping the younger man was getting the gist of his meaning now.

"Of course, I'm not sure he wants all that extra responsibility, but
I'm sure hoping he does. Especially since he was able to step up and
lead the Hall when circumstances called for it," He waited once more
to see if Thayde would respond as he hoped, knowing if not he would
make things _very_ clear when next he spoke.

He was talking about _him_? Thayde was surprised, but pleased
nontheless. He knew that during his temporary time as Hallsecond he'd
had other Masters watching and evaluating him in the role. Did he want
the extra responsibility? He was quite content in the dolphin
infirmary where his passions had always lied. Yet, the opportunity for
advancement, and at a young age, was too good to pass up.

"I think he would do it."

Famell grinned. "Excellent. Then without further delay, let me
formally make it known that on this day, Thayde, Master Dolphineer,
has accepted the position of Hallsecond." Famell stood up, hand
outstretched, a broad grin on his face as he waited for the younger
man to make it official.

Thayde grinned as he stood and clasped the Hallmaster's hand, "Thank
you sir. It's an honor."
