Lenala

Lenala

"Hey Lenala." J'ren slipped into the records room and offered a smile to the goldrider. "How's it going?" It had been a while since they last really talked and he was going to do his best to keep so much time from slipping away. He lifted a hand in which he clutched some records, indicating his reason for entering the record's room.

"Hi, J'ren. All's fine and now that the eggs have Hatched, I can actually leave Vilarth's side for longer than half candlemark," Lenala replied.

"I'll never know the frustration you do, but I can imagine it and it doesn't seem like much fun." J'ren offered the records to the goldrider. "So what will you do with this new found freedom?"

"Catch up," Lenala replied, "Of course, I still have work to do," she gestured towards the hides in front of her.

"Looks like it, but I'm sure you can handle it." J'ren peered at the pile. It was a shame that clutching caused difficulties, but they'd be doomed without those precious eggs. "Honestly, I don't know how you do it."

"I just do it," Lenala replied with eloquent shrug. "So, how about you? How are you? They promote someone past you, didn't they?"

There was a flicker in J'ren's expression, barely there and gone so quickly, it was questionable as to whether or not it had truly been present. "Yes. They did." He cleared his throat, unwilling to dwell on the matter. "So other than work, have you been up to anything lately?"

Lenala shook her head. "No, I've been boring. I haven't even met that new bronzerider yet," she answered. "My reputation is at risk."

That spurred an arching of J'ren's eyebrows. "Why is that?"

"You know, people might actually start thinking I'm prudent," Lenala said, her eyes as wide and innocent-looking as she could make them.

"Is that a bad thing?" J'ren's eyebrows went up even as the smile tugged at his lips. "There are a lot worse things to be known as."

"But I'm the party goldrider, a bronzerider trap," Lenala objected. She wasn't sure what had gotten into her...was she finally maturing?

"Really?" J'ren leaned against a table and crossed his arms over his chest as he gazed down Lenala. "Is that all that you are?"

Lenala gave her wide eyed stare and the shrugged. "I'm goldrider, that's all I am."

J'ren shook his head. "You are a goldrider, yes. And yes, that's a large part of you, but that's not _all_ there is to you."

"That's all people see," Lenala said. There was little bit of bitterness in her tone.

"Not everyone." J'ren couldn't miss the emotion in her voice and he shook his head. "And if that's all anyone ever sees, then they must be blind."

"Thanks" Lenala said, fiddling with her quill pen. "So, do you have any plans for next restday?"

"No, not really." The bronzerider straightened and shook his head. J'ren didn't usually go anywhere or plan events just sort of hung out and, yes, rested. "Do you?"

"No, not yet. I thought we could do something together, go somewhere. There's bound to be Gather somewhere," she suggested and gave him a brilliant smile. She needed to get out of the Weyr, relax and have bit of fun.

"That sounds nice, sure." J'ren enjoyed Gathers, but they were always more fun when he was with a companion. "You choose where to go."

"All right, it's a deal then," Lenala said. It was high time for her to pay attention to the bronzeriders in the Weyr. Pining after M'galec wasn't getting her anywhere.

"Good." The bronzerider straightened, his smile returning. "I look forward to it."
