Danrina

Everything was set. The young ones were out, staying with friends.
Ioven had duties and Parale had gotten Parys to go to sleep.
She had the table ready and just needed her guests to arrive.
Hopefully this would be a good thing for Danrina. After all, the
Steward would be perfect for her breeding and might even be a nice man. He
seemed helpful. Humming, she folded the napkins.

Danrina knocked on Parale's door. She knew she was to have dinner
with someone, but Parale hadn't told her who. Trusting the other woman
and knowing she wouldn't be alone, Danrina accepted with ease. She had
not been very successful in her attempts to find a husband otherwise,
so she would take whatever help she could get.

She'd put on one of her nicest dresses with a special blue gemmed
necklace that had been a gift from her father, once again designed to
show off his _wealth_ rather than his love, still she liked the piece.

Walking over, she opened the door and smiled to herself when she saw
Danrina. "Oh you look very nice dear. Come on inside. Everything's ready.
Just waiting for him to get here." Parale's own wardrobe wasn't as well
appointed but it was still one of her best.

The steward walked from the main hold in the rosy dusk with his
faithful canine at his side. He'd had a long day but he still had a
dinner to go through. He didn't mind these dinners actually and he
knew it was past time for him to take some of these seriously.

So when he arrived he knocked then looked at Captain. "Stay," he said
before the door opened.

When it did, it was Parale's face he saw. Her customary earrings were
there, but not the headscarf. Instead, she had on a loose scarf dress
that was an orange color with gold embroidery. She was rather proud of
her creation and it was comfortable and cool. "Welcome steward! Come
inside. The food is ready if you'd like to take a seat. Danrina, look
it's the steward!"

"Good evening," he greeted Parale's with a smile. Her skills were well
known through the Hold these days. "You're looking lovely this evening
Danrina," he said bowing over her hand.

Watching that, Parale smiled to herself. She moved back, allowing them time
together. They could settle and sit down when they were ready. She began to
set the food onto the table, humming as she did so.

Danrina hadn't realized it would be Bryvin, the steward, she would be

joining tonight. They had encountered each other a few times in the
past, but never with any formality behind it. Did it mean then that he
was looking for a wife?

"Good evening, Bryvin. It is nice to see you again," Danrina replied,
smiling at his compliment. "I look forward to a nice dinner together."

"And if I know our hostess, it will be." He nodded in the other woman's
direction. "Shall we?" he offered his arm to lead her to the table.

When everyone was sitting, Parale made short work of getting the food passed
around. When that was done, she tried to start conversation. "So
Danrina what is your opinion on the Hold's construction?"

Now that they were seated, Danrina was finding she was enjoying both
of their company. It was nice to feel more at ease having Parale there
than some of her early experiences in meeting the men of the Hold on
her own.

"Construction is good. It means the Hold is growing and that should
mean more people will be coming here," she replied. That would be good
for her in many ways. More prospects and more opportunities. "I do
wish at times though it wasn't so noisy, but I know that growing the
Hold will provide opportunities for all that live here."

"It certainly will," Bryvin agreed with a smile. He knew exactly why
Danrina was looking for a husband and if her aims coincided with his
ambition she just might make a fine prospect for a wife. "Prosperity
is a very good thing for the Hold. Our Lord Morin is well aware and
making certain we import the best." He smiled at the younger woman. "I
should show you some of the fabric that came in on the last ship."

Parale herself was interested in fabric, but she didn't mention it. This
was Danrina's moment. It seemed like the two of them were getting along
well enough which meant maybe she didn't have much to worry about.
Perhaps she could start planning a ceremony. Wondering if Danrina had
a proper trousseau, she made plans to ask. "My husband certainly seems
to be working quite a bit so hopefully prosperity will mean more ease of work
since there will be more hands to do it."

Dinner progressed with amiable conversation and while the young lady
didn't inspire wild passion in him, all in all Bryvin enjoyed himself.
She was intelligent and could hold her own in conversation. But the
time soon came to wrap up the evening.

"Ladies," he smiled between the two. "I thank you for a very nice dinner."

Danrina had enjoyed the meal and Bryvin's company as well. When the
time came, she thanked him for joining them and thanked Parale for
hosting the event. She wondered if they would meet up again soon. She
would do what she could to see that happen.
