Working full speed again, it was important to take little moments every now
and again to rest and relax. So on this restday, Rhosyn had decided to take U'das out on
the beach for a swim and a picnic. Orlaith wasn't far behind and the gold didn't take long
to get into the water.
"You know, someone might get a wrong idea of this," U'das said with wide
grin, spreading the blanket on the ground. Zack was already in the water, the bronze sometimes
seemed to be half dolphin.
"Oh?" She shrugged. "Since when have I cared about peoples' ideas anyway?"
Putting the basket down, she grabbed a bit of fruit from it and popped it into her mouth. "And
if the Weyrwoman doesn't have a picnic to relax, she will kill people. No one wants that."
"Yes, I've noticed that you tend to disregard all rules, especially the
social ones," U'das remarked. He kicked off his boots and pulled off his tunic. "You're right, killing
people wouldn't be good for this Weyr."
Walking into the water in her sundress, she sighed when it enveloped her and
cooled her skin down. Bending back and letting her hair flow out around her, she closed her eyes
and floated for awhile. "You know I've finally realized that I'll never get N'vanik like I want. So
now I have to decide just what I'm going to do."
"N'vanik loves being Weyrleader more than he loves any woman," U'das said. "We all do, it's the part
of being bronzerider." He removed his pants, leaving just swimming shorts and waded into the water.
"No, he loves Talryne. Weyrleader or not, he'll stay with her. So now..I'm not the type of person who waits
around. Never have been. So that begs the question-who in this Weyr should have my attention? My Weyrleader
is otherwise occupied." She snorted, thinking Weyrleaders were never dependent on their Weyrwomen which
was probably just as well.
"Don't look at me, I'm far too old for you," U'das said quickly. He liked Rhosyn but there was nothing romantic in his feelings.
"U'das...if K'sedel isn't too old to get me pregnant, I doubt you are. However...that's not really what I want."
She let him off the hook. "I just...out of all of them...I don't know. I've never really connected with any of the men
here. Not like that." No, all of her boys were at Dolphin Cove, which was frustrating.
"Or you just haven't really paid much attention to them, that's been Lenala's turf. Although I have to admit, we
don't have that many bronzeriders in your turns...River Bluff seems to have more older bronzeriders. Probably because
it was one of few Weyrs active during the Interval," U'das said. "There's J'ren and J'lai who are close to your age and
they both seem to drool after Lenala..."
"J'ren would turn my way if I wanted him to, but I don't. I...well I asked him to be friends with her, to encourage her. She needed some support from someone else and I think it has worked out well." Rhosyn smiled to herself. Despite everything, though she thought about the Wingsecond. "He's kind and a good man but...that's not really my type. He's just..too good."
"Yes, you need personality with more ...spark. Do keep away from M'galec. For the Weyr's sake," U'das chuckled.
A look of distaste formed on Rhosyn's face clearly indicating her preferences regarding that man. "No problem there at all. K'sedel, K'reyel, and Y'gel are all weyrmated. S'ber is young...though I do like the tall ones. He and D'ren are too young to handle me though. So I'm left with H'vack and the new fellow." She shrugged. "Unless K'sedel retired...That would mean I could possibly throw the next Flight open." That meant much more in the way of possibilities. Even R'enh would have a shot then. Her mind started working.
"I should introduce you to my son U'sel some day," U'das remarked, relaxing his body to float in the water.
"He's a fine bronzerider and only two Turns older than you."
"Where is he?" She turned to consider that possibility. So many riders, so many places. She needed to get more bronzes at River Bluff. Why should everyone else have so many?
"After a few Turns in Telgar, he's back at Far Island Weyr again," U'das replied.
Nodding, Rhosyn became quiet then and just enjoyed the water. She never really went there much except for Hatchings
so she'd probably never see him unless he came to visit. Even then, he would only come if there were an open Flight. So
that was a no go. Sighing, she forgot about all of that for the moment.
