Arippa or Faldrimme

Arippa

Arippa's depression kept creeping up on her when she wasn't looking
and today with the gray clouds and rain it seemed to just feed into
the feelings that threatened to swam her.

She had her good days and her bad days but she couldn't help the
haunting images of Reven and the daunting thought that she'd never see
him again. Their time together had just been too short. But she knew
beyond a doubt that she loved him deeply. Nothing could change that.

So here she was staring out the window into the square in front of the
hold while the rain fell mimicking the tears in her eyes.

Out of that rain appeared a bronze dragon, his rider waving to the buildings
around the square in the hope of attracting attention.

It certainly had caught Rendrall's attention, who had been passing
through the bailey with Coran as they discussed the crops around Green
Valley. Reven was normally the one who would handle such matters,
since he was the farmercrafter between them, and also the man in
charge of Green Valley. With his absence, however, the work had fallen
to Rendrall, who was happy to do it, but with only the stipulation
that he would hand it back over as soon as Reven was found....Dead or
alive.

"Did we have a guest scheduled?" Coran asked, clapping his father on
the shoulder and pointing toward the bronze dragon who was landing.

Rendrall squinted up at the figure, "No." He replied, and grabbed up
the nearest drudge by the shirt, "Go get the lady."

She saw the bronze through the mist of the lowering clouds and grabbed
her cloak to meet him on the steps of the hold as Her husband had
always done. They both held dragonriders in high regard and would
never keep even a greenrider waiting. That a bronze had appeared on
their doorstep told her something important was happening. She met the
drudge on her way down the stairs and simply nodded letting him follow
her back out the front door of the hold.

Seeing her husband's father and brother waiting on the stones she
hurried to join them pulling up the hood of her cloak as she walked.

"Ma'am," called out the bronzerider. "Might you be the family of Holder
Reven?"

Rendrall and Coran stood by Arippa's elbows, one on either side, but
both deferred to her as the woman of the hold as the bronzeride drew
near. Already it felt as if a cold hand was clasping Coran's insides
as he waited for Arippa's reply, and then the subsequent news that
this dragonrider had for them. It could only be one of two things,
one, they had found him, but alive or dead?

Her blood roared in her ears but training won and she nodded. "Yes My
Lord," she gave him a bob of a curtsey. "I am Lady Arippa, his wife
and this is his Father and Brother,' she added indicating the two
gentlemen on either side of her in the growing crowd the presence of a
bronze dragon and his rider inevitably drew. "Do you have news for
us?" Her blue eyes were huge in her face with mingled hope and dread.

"Ma'am, yes, yes I do." Stepping closer to the family members, "My name is
I'lan, I'm Naath's rider and Weyrwoman Cyradis asked me to come and bring
the news that your husband is at the infirmary at Dolphin Cove Weyr. A
sweeprider found him injured and brought him to us, where a greenrider, I
think her name is Jeyme, was able to identify him."

Her hand reached out to the bronzerider as she sagged against
Rendrall. "Thank you," was about all she could squeeze out at first.
**He's Alive!** her brain screamed and it took her another moment to
become coherent again. "Can you take me to him?"

Rendrall was still in shock, but he was coherent enough to support
Arippa, his hands on her shoulders as he looked at the dragonman
before them. **Alive? His son was alive.** He had been telling himself
for so long that Reven was alive that it was hard to believe it was
actually, finally, _true_. All other questions of when and how could
be answerd later, all that mattered was that he was alive.

On the other side, Coran had turned his back to the dragonrider, not
out of disrespect, but out of an attempt to hide his emotions as he
put a hand over his eyes, which had become suspiciously moist at the
news of his brother's rescue.

"Ma'am, I can take you as soon as you are ready. You will need some heavy
clothing as it will be cold going /between/."

Arippa took a couple of deep breaths and shook her head. "I can go
with you? I have something." She said in almost a single breath. She
turned and hugge both of the other men and ran back into the Hold to
change. She had flying leathers. Qorri had made sure of that.

"Would either of you like to accompany the lady?" asked I'lan. "Naath and I
can take another passenger."

Rendrall and Coran shared a look, "You go," Rendrall said, "be your
sister-in-law's escort. I will work with the Steward and over see
Green Valley while Arippa is gone."

Coran nodded and turned and quickly disappeared to grab up a quick bag
of supplies. He knew that the Weyr would have their own infirmary
supplies, but a good healer always had his own bag of tricks.

Arippa returned quickly changed into the flying leathers with a scarf
wrapped around her neck ready to be pulled up over her face when
needed. The trousers and jacket were of black leather and didn't leave
much of her to the imagination but she rather imagined the dragonrider
was used to that though the holders around most certainly were not.
She handed the bag to the rider. "Here," she said, intending for him
to take and stow it for the trip.

Rendrall watched as Arippa was helped up onto the bronze dragon. Her
outfit was nothing short of eye opening, and he was glad that she
would not be wearing it long at Green Valley. Of course, it would help
her fit right in at the Weyr.

Coran came jogging back, a satchel slung over one shoulder and his
medical bag in the other hand. As the healer was helped up onto the
dragon, Rendrall waved at his youngest son and then at his
daughter-in-law, "I will look after things while you are away. Please
send word when you have seen Reven."

"I'll send Mystery to you with a note as soon as I see him," Arippa called
down from the back of the dragon. The bronze was ever so much bigger than
Jeyme's green

It was the work of practised moments for I'lan to check the straps and make
sure his passengers were secure. "Whenever you are ready," he said.

Coran gave a nod from behind Arippa and he exhaled a nervous little
breath. He had only flown once before and it unnerved him a bit to be
up so high, putting faith into a creature that you barely knew.

"Yes please," Arippa said from where she was sandwiched between the
two men on the broad bronze back.
