Description: Eirlira gloats a little too much to the wrong person
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 24 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Bahji, Rhosyn, K'sedel, E'rae
Was it true? Eirlira nearly bounced with glee the moment the rumors
had reached her ears. Had the little blind bitch finally ran off?
Another pregnancy too much for the little overly sweet, repulsively
goody-goody little wretch? She had to know for certain....
As soon as her little green was asleep, Eirlira made her way to the
weavery. She knew, of course, which room the girl had been in. She had
made it her business to know. She came to the door, her eyes narrow as
she placed her ear against the frame and listened. No noise...feeling
triumphant, she opened the door and was met with an empty room. She
stepped in, turned and then tilted her head back and laughed.'
"Having fun?" A dry voice asked.
K'lvin had heard that Bahji had left, but had come down to her room to
see for himself. Seeing her room empty was like a blow to the solar
plexus. Mostly because he knew that _he_ was to blame. Bahji had loved
the Weyr, and she had loved being independent and having her own
space... She had told him that and he had crushed her dreams. **For
the best.** He told himself again, not for the first time. It was
probably best that she had left, he tried to reason with himself,
because at the Hold she would be safe from Weyr life, a life that was
too harsh for someone as sweet as Bahji.
The sight of this Weyrling dancing inside of Bahji's empty room,
however, was beyond K'lvin. Who was this?
Eirlira spun at the voice, too triumphant and gleeful to take in his
knots or rein in the excitement of her triumph. "I'm having a blast."
Her smile was smug as she pointedly looked around the room. She saw a
bit of cord under the edge of the bed and bent, picking up a strand of
knots that had apparently been forgotten. She twirled them between her
fingers, her smile growing.
K'lvin's eyes honed in on the shoulder knots that the woman was
casually swinging around her finger. He recognized them easily because
they had been the very knots that had graced his shoulder before he
had given them to Bahji. His jaw clenched, although it had nothing to
do with Eirlira, but everything to do with the woman who had so
casually left behind the only piece of him she had. **I suppose I
deserve that too.** He told himself.
"You knew Miss Bahji?" He asked because it was too hard to ignore the
woman's smug face for any length of time.
There was a snort as Eirlira stopped twirling the knots and arched a
brow. "Unfortunately. Little goody-two-slipper priss was all that she
was. Thought she was better than me. " A slight satisfied smile grew
on her face. "Looks like she got what she wanted though. Maybe she
should be more careful about what that is..." She flicked the knots on
the bed with relish and tsked her tongue. "And maybe more careful
about checking her teas." She snickered and moved to walk past him.
K'lvin's eyes followed the movement of his rank knots as they sailed
through the air and landed on the bed. Instinctively his arm reached
out, baring Eirlira from moving past him, "What about teas?" He asked,
as if he hadn't heard her correctly the first time.
When his arm shot out, she stopped before she touched it and a little
smug smirk grew on her face. "Now, now, I'm a weyrling. I've got to
get back to my dragon." She lifted her chin. "Teas. You know..what you
take if you don't want to get pregnant?" Her smirk grew, just a
little.
"Xmrenth senses no discomfort in your dragon." K'lvin said simply, not
removing his arm as he looked down into the young woman's eyes, "Bahji
took her teas faithfully." He was sure of that, she had even said so
after she had found out she was pregnant again.
Eirlira's brow arched, her smug smile never wavering. "I'm very sure
she did. Poor thing probably didn't even make sure she was drinking
the right tea. She was after all crippled."
K'lvin's brows knitted together as he studied the creature before him.
She was certainly a piece of work, and the look in her eyes gave him a
sickening feeling in her stomach, "Yes, I am guessing it would be easy
for Bahji to mistakenly drink the wrong tea since she cannot see
them?" He said this with an air of caution. **Could this woman really
have switched Bahji's teas? Why would she do that?**
Eirlira shrugged, but the gleam of satisfaction in her eye couldn't be
hidden. "All the more reason that the little blind wench leave.
Obviously, she couldn't take care of herself. The Weyr doesn't need
folk like her." She quickly ducked under the riders arm and snickered.
"To have such distaste for a blind woman you certainly seem jealous of
her." K'lvin said, lowering his arm and turning to regard the smug
Weyrling. He would never understand why dragons Impressed to some of
the most rotten people on Pern while others who were good and innocent
would never Impress.
Eirlira stopped and blinked, slowly turning to K'lvin with arched brows and
lips tightened. "Hardly. I could have any man I wanted." She tossed her wild
hair over her shoulder. "After Sasinth is old enough." Her chin lifted.
"Besides, why would I be jealous of a cripple who can't even bear children
properly?" Her smile twisted upwards. "She's useless." Eirlira paused and
tilted her head to the side. "Oooh...I see. You're another one to fall for
the 'oh I'm so sweet...I need help and protection' bit, right?" There was a
pointed snicker. "Well, that blue rider learned well enough, I wager.
Especially after that _horrid_ little fall." She crossed her arms over her
chest. "Oh..darn."
K'lvin's eyes narrowed, "I would strongly encourage you to watch yourself,
Eirlira. Your twisted behavior may not bother you, but it will eat away at
your dragon. Dragons are not capable of the same treachery as humans." The
bronzerider brushed past her, "Oh, and," he turned and glanced down at her,
"I highly doubt you could have any man you wanted. Not if what is between
your legs is as disgusting as your personality." He tilted his head, putting
his fingers to his temple in a mock salute, "Good day, Weyrling."
She had gotten to the man. Eirlira kept her smirk as he walked by. "Sure,
sure, bronzerider. Just make sure the next cripple you bed can check her
tea." Her smugness made her rash. "After all, you never know if the cripple
may have been accidentally given something else." She returned his salute
and with a lifted chin and a wide, satisfied smile, picked up the knots,
dropped them and ground her toe down on the knots.
The Wingleader's lips tilted upward as he turned and strode away from the
girl. The information she had divulged was disturbing, and also slightly
incriminating. Why had the Weyrleadership allowed such a tunnelsnake onto
the hatching sands anyway? K'lvin supposed that in the end it didn't matter,
Bahji was safely away from the Weyr where Eirlira could do her no harm. He
would keep his eye on the green Weyrling, however, because he doubted he had
heard the last from her.
