Description: B'jon and Denenth fly together for first time.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 6 of Turn 7
It was a big day and one that most weyrlings looked forward to. It wasn't a
hard day, really. The Weyrlingmasters got to be encouraging and were also
able to remember their own young days. D'lorn was suited up and standing
there, surveying his lot. They would have to pass inspection before lining
and being able to take their first flights, which were really mostly first
glides. They couldn't strain the dragonets' wing muscles.
}: Ooh, we get to fly today! We get to fly today, :{ Denenth mental voice
had a sing-song tone in it. She nearly hopped when she took her spot.
** Yes, now calm down. You need to pass inspection first,** B'jon was
nearly as excited as his dragon but hide it better. He also felt nervous
flutter in his stomach. He placed a hand on Denenth's neck. The little
green was growing up to medium sized green with beautiful dark green back
and lighter shaded bellyside.
U'das walked over the rows of weyrlings, giving the straps inspection. It
wasn't any different than normal, pre-drill inpection in a Fighting wing.
He stopped to inspect Denenth. "She's a pretty one," U'das complimented.
"Tighten that buckle and move that strap two inches left and she's good to
go."
"Thanks, sir," B'jon replied and hurried to do the corrections to Denenth's
straps.
Once inspections were done, the weyrlings were asked to line up and get
ready. "Allright everyone, listen up. You will mount your dragons. They
will run to take a small leap then glide down from the hill there. Do not
push it. I only want a few flaps. Then, you may do it again. If anyone
overdoes it and sprains anything, you will be punished. Understood?" D'lorn
looked around at the sea of faces. Villith stood watch at the bottom of the
small hill.
B'jon nodded. "Aye, sir."
}: But I want to fly properly! :{ Denenth protested.
**Shush. We will, later. Let's take it easy now. We do exactly as we are
told to,** B'jon answered her, his tone starting from assuring and moving
to firm one. He didn't want to fail, didn't want to get punished either. He
wanted to make a good impression.
"Denenth and B'jon-you're up." D'lorn stood by, nodding to U'das who kept
the line going. **Hopefully we won't have any showoffs today**
** Remember, no foolishness** B'jon said sternly and mounted his green.
U'das checked the clasps after he had closed them and nodded his approval.
Denenth opened her wings and started to run. B'jon could feel her muscles
work under his tights. The reached the starting spot and Denenth leaped.
Her wings got air under them and they were flying. B'jon's heart leaped
too and Denenth let out a jubilant cry. Her wings beat up and down once,
then twice. **Now, land, there's the mark! ** B'jon instructed her.
}: I could keep going, :{ Denenth rumbled and prepared to land. She folded
her wings too quickly and stumbled, coming down to earth bit too fast.
** Are you all right?** B'jon asked, his heart in his throat now.
}: I'm fine, need to practice that part more, :{ Denenth answered. B'jon
could feel she was more embarrassed than hurt. She straightened herself and
trotted aside, making room for the next one.
}: I'm not hurt :{ she told Villith and Zackariath.
}:Next time, slower. You have to use your wings to slow yourself down
before landing:{ Villith instructed, knowing greens were usually more
graceful than the larger dragons. They were a bit faster, though, which
could mean problems.
"B'jon, back of the line. Take it easy next time!" D'lorn yelled, watching
the next weyrling come forward.
"Yes, sir!" B'jon answered promptly.
