Description: U'das takes group of candidates to meet Vilarth's eggs, including Eirlira.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 11 of Turn 7
It was U'das turn today, to take candidates visit Vilarth's eggs.
Because the nervous and protective nature of the Gold, the groups were
small, under ten people.
"Hello, Lenala! I have candidates for a visit!" he called from the entrance.
"Hi, U'das, please come in," Lenala replied. Vilarth's head was
already turned towards the opening.
"Go in and don't forget to pay your respects both to Lenala and
Vilarth," U'das told the candidates.
Maelyn was almost hopping from foot to foot in his excitement. He was
newly searched candidate and had never seen dragon's eggs before. Not
to mention meeting the Gold.
Eirlira stood quietly, a smug little smile on her face. For all that
she had been told she wasn't going to Stand, here she was.
Unfortunately, she wasn't going to be allowed to see the Queen egg at
Dragonsfall, but there were going to be other times. She knew that a
Gold was her destiny, but it wouldn't hurt to see these eggs. They
were lovely things last time. She pushed her mass of hair behind her
shoulder, but was distracted by the prancing moves from the candidate
beside her. She rolled her eyes and sighed.
Vodorin stood in the back, arms crossed as he shifted from foot to
foot. He too was recently Searched, and had only been in the Weyr for
two days. The adjustment and sudden realization that he might be
paired with these eggs was mindboggling for the quiet young man. He
didn't pay much attention to the other Candidates, he was too involved
in his own thoughts.
Eirlira walked carefully on the baking sands, thankful for the thick
soles of her shoes. She curtsied to the queen and to Lenala before
turning to the eggs with a critical eye.
"You look amazingly radiant as usual, Vilarth," U'das bowed to the
gold. She eyed the bronzerider with approval. Flattery always worked,
U'das grinned inside.
Maelyn followed suit. "It's an honor to meet you," he managed to
breath out before his gaze fell on eggs. "They are amazing!" he was
left to stare the eggs.
Vilarth growled, mostly for the show when the candidates came closer.
**Shush, love, don't be rude,** Lenala chided her.
Vodorin followed Maelyn and cleared his throat as he stared up at the
huge gold. His blue eyes were wide as he made a preferential bow. "An
honor, great Queen." His voice barely held a quaver, but he managed to
keep his knees from knocking together as he backed away.
Eirlira, having made her respects, turned to U'das. "Can we go see them
now?"
U'das glanced Lenala, who nodded and answered: "Sure, go ahead. I
pretty sure she won't bite your head off." He couldn't resist it.
Eirlira hid the rolled eyes as she turned away, not in the least bit
concerned as she approached the eggs. **What does he think I am,
stupid?** She approached the first egg, a large one and considered it.
Most likely a bronze or a brown. Not for her. But really, none of them
were. They weren't a gold. She swallowed a sigh and moved to the
smaller, doing her duty and examining the warm shells.
Vodorin on the other hand was far more excited, though the quiet young
man hid it well. He approached the egg that Eirlira had summarily
rejected and spoke softly. "May we touch them?"
"Yes, they are hard enough for it now. No knocking," Lenala replied
and warned. Once a candidate had started knocking the egg shells and
Vilarth had not liked it at all. She nearly had bitten off his head.
At least she had scared him badly enough to wet his pants.
Maelyn nearly tiptoed around the eggs. Hesitantly, he placed his hand
on one, nice, big egg with sort of creamy bluish colour. **Maybe a
brown or large blue?**
Eirlira brushed her hand over a few of the eggs as she walked through.
**Why couldn't she have laid a gold like at Dragonsfall? Shards, I'm
going to be stuck a Candidate forever at this rate.** There was a
slight pout to her mouth as she lingered around a smaller egg, lost in
thought. Her hand trailed over the warm shell, daydreaming of the gold
that she would one day Impress.
Vodorin looked over at Maelyn and walked towards him, looking at the
egg. "Do you think it matters if we touch them? Do you think they can
really sense it?"
"I have no idea," Maelyn answered. "They are amazing," his eyes were
round with awe.
"Something wrong?" Lenala asked, walking over to where Eirlira was.
She had noticed the expression on her face. She didn't look happy or
awed like rest of the candidates.
Eirlira pulled herself out her daydream and faced Lenala, pasting a
pleasant smile on her face. "Oh no, Goldrider. Nothing at all is
wrong." She stroked the warm shell of the egg again. "I'm afraid I was
just lost in thought. The Hatching is so close and I'm afraid I'm a
little nervous."
"Little nervous is good, taking them granted isn't," Lenala said,
lifting gracefully her eyebrow's and placing her fingers gently on one
of the eggs.
Eirlira hid the grit of her teeth and smiled, placating. "I would
never take the eggs for granted."
Lenala didn't like her tone of voice at all, but couldn't find any
cause to reprimands from her words. "Good, " she just said with an
arrogant flip of her hair.
Eirlira turned away with a roll of her eyes. She patted the egg with a
murmur. "Find a good rider, little thing."
Lenala cocked an eyebrow. If Eirlira Impressed a green, it should be
rather...interesting. She made a mental note to keep an eye on her.
Especially if she Impressed, it could be...amusing.
