Y'gel

Y'gel

Y'gel went through all the fastenings on Aughashyth's cargo harness
for the third time this morning. Today he was taking precious cargo
far to the south and he wanted to make certain everything arrived
safely.

The cargo nets were padded with extra furs just in case anything
shifted and he began to load them with the bags and boxes a pair of
candidates were bringing out to the sands.

"Is she ready yet," he asked and one of the boys shrugged.

She smiled as she approached him from behind. "I'm ready papa," Gelira
stated, placing her arms around his back. "I can't believe there is a
gold egg on the Sands. It seems like so long since the last one."

He chuckled and gathered her close. "Your mother would be so proud of
you sweetheart," he said. "I know you'll find your lifemate whether
she's gold or green." Then he kissed the top of her head. "Now up with
you."

She felt a joyful tingle run through her at her father's words. She
had stood at River Bluff many times, perhaps a new environment would
change things for her. She hoped.

"I'm ready," she replied, climbing up on Aughashyth's back. She was
ready to tackle this new adventure.

Y'gel climbed up into his seat as soon as everything was stowed. In
moments they were in the air. Aughashyth's strong wings lifting them
with ease. As they flew one time around the Weyrbowl they rose higher
and higher until they blinked /between/.

She was glad she was able to travel at this time. It made the trip
that much easier. Soon, however, she would be unable to go /between./
In a blink Gelira was looking down at Dragonsfall.

**Maybe I shall find my lifemate here,** she mused as she held on. She
hoped her time would finally come. She was ready. She was eager. She
was hopeful.

They glided down to the entrance of the caverns in the cold Weyrbowl
of Dragonsfall. "Aughashyth says he'll miss you," Y'gel relayed to his
daughter. "I love you sweetheart," he smiled as he helped her down the
side of the big bronze. "Your mother would be very proud of you."

She hugged him then, "I hope maybe this time will be _my_ time." Sure
the idea of a gold egg was enticing, but even more than that Gelira
just _wanted_ her chance to be a rider. The color of her dragon didn't
matter. She just wanted to be chosen.

"I love you father," she said, knowing she wouldn't be seeing him as
much while she was at Dragonsfall. That would be hard as she was used
to seeing him every day. Her chance was here now. She would see what
was in her future now.
