Karhal

He'd been out checking on various goings on around the Hold when he
spotted someone worth detouring for a bit.

"Evening, Karhal. Nearly done with your duties for the day?" Wirnan asked.

Locking his office, Karhal looked up. "So far." He arched a brow.
"Unless you have something else?" His lip corner quirked up. It had
been blissfully quiet today and though his duty shift was over, his
work did tend to come first.

"Actually I was thinking perhaps an evening of drinks might be in
order. I think we've both been working far too hard of late. What do
you say?" Wirnan asked.

Karhal had to pause and consider the request. He was not normally the
most social of men; he preferred to go home and sleep. But Wirnan was
right; they both, as a rule, worked hard. "I think you're right. A
drink or two might help us both relax before bed."

"Sounds great," Wirnan replied with a smile. He'd been meaning to see
if Karhal was up for such a thing for some time, but work had kept him
busy. Karhal had offered him some good advice, and truthfully, Wirnan
could use a friend or two who understood a bit more of what he was
going through.

It didn't take them long to make their way to the small tavern on the
grounds. Wirnan ordered a good strong beer and eagerly gulped half of
it down when it arrived.

"Lots of long days working," he remarked. "I needed some time out."

He sat across from Wirnan, ordering a similar mug of beer, but
drinking it more slowly. "We all do from time to time." He spoke
quietly. "How have you been?"

"Ah," Wirnan replied, "So so. I mean life isn't as bad as it was, but
it sure isn't anything close to what I'd hoped for." He shrugged, "I'm
learning to make do. How about you?"

"Better." His lips curled upwards. "I'm to be wed in a few sevendays.
Loella is proving to be quite the..." He paused. "She has a stinging
wit, but it keeps me on my toes." He took a sip of beer and rested an
arm on the table. "Perhaps she and your wife could be introduced."

Wirnan nearly sputtered on his beer. "You are?" How had Wirnan missed
that news? "Well, I clearly have been too caught up in my hidework if
I've missed the plans for a big wedding! "You must be working with
Zelanka or Benani to plan it, since I haven't really heard of the
plans. I will have to speak with them it seems."

At that Karhal chuckled and lightly slapped the man on his back to
help. "It's alright. You've been busy. The actual ceremony is going to
be small, I think. It's not as if Loella and I are of the Blood." He
took another drink. "And I'm not planning anything. I learned my
lesson. Loella and her mother are at the helm of this and I just
smile, nod, and say, 'what ever you want, dear.'"

He smiled at that, recalling his own wedding day to Kaya. That thought
brought a bit of a shadow to his eyes, though since it hadn't been a
love match then. Sure, things were not as bad lately, but things
between them were nothing like he had hoped.

"That is a good way to handle things. Let the lady take control. They
do like to plan and party. If you need anything, though, you let me
know," Wirnan replied taking a drink from his mug.

"Bring your Kaya. Dance with her. Perhaps she and Loella can get to
know each other."

"Alright, that would be a good idea. I'm sure Kaya would enjoy a
chance to participate in the festivities," Wirnan smiled at that. Kaya
had been acting better in recent months, he still had hope things
_could_ still get better for them.

Lifting his glass he gave a slight toast, "To wives and marriage. For
good or ill. It sure keeps us guessing!" He chuckled a bit at that as
he moved his mug to his lips to drink.
