Relea

Coran had never been happier to see Emerald Falls Hold when it finally
crested the horizon. While eloping had been a good idea, Coran had not
really thought through how hard it would be to travel, alone, with his
beautiful betrothed, who was determined to stay "pure" till their
wedding night. **Faranth help.** He thought as he shifted
uncomfortably in the saddle. There was only so many cold dips in the
creek one could take.

Even after Emerald Falls showed on the horizon it still took half the
day to reach it, and so it was with great relief that Coran led the
way into the Hold. **Just one short ceremony and then it's done.** He
thought as he swung his leg over the saddle and dismounted.

"Ah, here at last." He said with a grin toward Relea as he came to her
runner and reached up to help her down.

It had been a difficult journey. The travel itself hadn't been that
hard, but the closeness of the man whom she'd managed to fend off was
certainly a trial. If nothing else, Relea had to agree that she not
only liked and respected Coran, but she found him attractive. He felt
the same about her, a delight that she had yet to admit to him, but it
had increased tensions between them. The arrival at Emerald Falls
would certainly prove a relief - particularly for him. And, yes, for
her as well. She could not deny the sensations he'd stoked, and there
would be security in marriage to a man of good position as well. Even
better, he was amiable and likable as well as willing to always learn
more about her and the way she 'spoke'.

Her hand curled within his and she allowed his assistance to draw her
down to the ground. With the long ride, her legs wobbled and
attempted to bend in an unnatural fashion. A few moments of walking
would set them straight, but she teetered briefly before catching her
balance. "Now what?" She queried once she didn't feel like she was
going to collapse.

"Now we go find a harper." Coran said with a smile, leaving the
runners with a hand as he put a hand to the small of Relea's back and
guided her into the Hold, "Unless you wanted to freshen up first?" Oh
Faranth, he hoped not, Coran would hate to admit it but he was being
fueled by hormones at this point. Everything focused on getting
married and consummating it. **Marriage. Consummate. Marriage.
Consummate.**

Relea peered down at herself. While there had been no rain, she was
dusty from the trip. "Don't you want to? We're a bit of a fright,
don't you think?" He was eager, though, and it amused the woman
enough to tickle a smile upon her lips.

Coran looked down at his clothes and knew that she was right. Still,
he was loathe to say it, "I suppose you are right. A change of clothes
would be a good idea."

"At least get the dust off of our feet." They weren't going to have a
large ceremony, simply an affirmation and recording of a contract with
a Harper. Still, Relea thought it would be good to clean up and
change before doing so.

The healer smiled, telling himself that he needed to slow down. He
already wasn't giving Relea the normal wedding ceremony that most
women loved, the least he could do was let her have time to clean up,
"We'll clean up, if I can make it through the other night I can make
it through waiting an hour or so for us to get clean."

Barely made it through he meant. Still, Relea offered him a smile and
a nod. "I won't take long." At least, not as long as some women
might.

**Finally!** Coran thought as he signed his name on the marriage
document with a flourish. He handed the stylus to Relea so that she
could sign as well as he stepped back and shook the harper's hand,
"Thank you so much, I know it was short notice."

"Certainly, not a problem." Pierlan couldn't help but wonder if there
was a baby involved. The enthusiasm and impatience of the man was far
too obvious to ignore. It wasn't his place to ask, of course, so the
harper kept his questions to himself. "Anything else I can do for you
folks?

Relea shook her head as she straightened. Her name had been penned
and the deed was done. She was now joined with this man, for better
or for worse. She hoped here would be more better than worse.

"That will be all, thank you." Coran said, curling his arm around his
wife's waist. **Now, let's go get this honeymoon started!** He thought
enthusiastically as they turned around to leave.

Before another step could be made, however, the door burst open and a
winded runner stepped in, his cheeks reddened from the run he had just
made, "Journeyman Coran?"

Coran cocked an eyebrow, wondering what he could be receiving a
message about, "That's me."

"Letter for you sir, they said it was urgent." The boy was panting as
he handed over the sealed letter with a shaky hand.

Urgent? Relea noted the boy's harried form and the expression upon
his face. Concern marred Coran's normally relaxed features and
Relea's own stomach began to churn with a sesne of foreboding.

A sickening feeling of dread began blossoming in the pit of his
stomach as Coran reached out and took the letter. He cast a worried
glance at Relea before breaking the seal and opening the letter. His
scanned the contents quickly, although his eyes honed in on three
individual words: Reven. Missing. Dead.

The end of the letter directed him to seek Lord Corowal's aid and it
was signed by his father.

He looked to Relea, "There's trouble. We need to go see Corowal."

"May I?" Her hands formed the question then one stretched out to
silently take the letter. Her own eyes found the same words that had
impressed themselves upon Coran and the colour drained from her face,
leaving her pasty. She nodded as she passed the parchment back to her
new husband. The honeymoon would have to wait.
