Emalla did just as Leaton had instructed her. With the holder's body
hidden inside of the laundry cart, she was able to wheel the man's
dead weight into one of the abandoned storage closets on the lower
level of the Hold. She had scouted out, for at least a sevenday, the
best place to store Reven while they waited to sneak him out of Green
Valley and to a secure location. She had nothing against the man
personally, but if she was to take Arippa's place, she needed to help
Leaton get into the holder's position. With her beauty, and Leaton's
brains, Green Valley would be far more prosperous than any of the
other minor holdings in Emerald Falls, maybe they would even become
their own Holding in time.
**Yes, Lady Emalla sounds so good.** Her lips curled up into a
sinister smile as she opened the door to the storage closet and
wheeled the cart inside. Pulling empty crates and boxes in front of
the laundry cart, she stepped outside and closed the doors before
locking it with a key that she slipped into her apron pocket.
Leaton would be so proud of her. She beamed to herself, whistling a
jaunty tune as she walked down the hall.
The cart remaind undisturbed as Emalla and Leaton went about their day
until sunset. Night descended and darkness covered the South in its
blanket. While most of the hold was at dinner, Leaton seized the
opportunity to slip away and to a certain door at the rear of the
Hold. It was mainly used by the staff to have access to the area
where they had access to a pool for laundry. Nearby a wagon waited,
two men still, silent shadows. Leaton peered at them through the
darkness of the evening, then glanced down the hall as he waited for
Emalla to bring the occupied cart.
Emalla's face was pinched, her eyebrows furrowed as she pushed the
cart. The hidden man beneath the laundry had began to emit soft little
moans as if he was coming to. "Quiet!" She hissed, shoving down hard
to plunge his head back beneath the dirty sheets as she passed by a
guard and gave him a furtive smile. Luckily the man merely tipped his
head at her and continued on his way. Releasing a breath she hadn't
realized she was holding, Emalla glanced at the disappearing guard
over her shoulder before pushing the guard through the rear door and
out to the waiting wagon that was covered in shadow.
"Good. Get the cargo and go. We'll come to meet you there tomorrow
night." Leaton would have liked to have gone that very evening, but
if the blood were discovered and he was absent, it would certainly not
help him. Leaton glanced at the bundle as the men wrangled the
wrapped body from within and a soft sound eased from beneath the
cloths. "Are you sure he'll be out til then?" He asked the shorter
man who sported healer knots.
"He'll doze like a baby." Sorak assured him.
"Noisy baby." Leaton muttered.
Once secured in the wagon, the two accomplices hopped into the
driver's seat, then spurred the runners into action. Leaton waited
until they were out of sight before he relaxed.
"Tis done. Now we wait. We should go to dinner." He offered Emalla his elbow.
Emalla felt weak with relief, but in the back of her mind she knew
that if anyone ever found out what they had done.... **No. No. We were
careful, very careful, Leaton has thought of everything.** Although
she did not have an appetite, she nodded, "Yes, dinner." They needed
to make an appearance, have an alibi should anything ever be said.
As they walked into the Dining Hall, Emalla felt her nerves ease a
bit. No one would ever know, how could they? People would see them
eating dinner and acting perfectly normal. There would be no reason
for Emalla or Leaton's names to be brought up when they found Reven's
rooms destroyed.
**I'll bet they even ask for Leaton's help.** Emalla laughed softly to
herself. Still, she would put on her work clothes and go to Reven's
office later, to "clean", and to make sure that nothing had been left
behind that would contradict his "disapperance."
