Relea

Relea

Coran's trip to Emerald Falls had taken him the entire day and when he
got in that night he went straight to his room and crashed. The
journeyman even slept in late that morning before waking up with a
head that was filled with fluff. He used the bases of his palms to
wipe at his eyes, which felt gritty and dry. He hated getting his
sleep schedule out of routine.

Washing his face from the basin in the corner of his room, he turned
and unwrapped the gift that he had brought for Relea. He smiled as he
fingered the gift lightly and then wrapped it back up and secured it
with the piece of twine that had been tied around it in a neat bow.
Dressing in his usual healer's uniform, Coran left his room and went
to Relea's knowing that she would already be back from breakfast by
this time of morning.

He knocked on the door and then shook his head with a smile. Knocking
on the door was just a habit that he could not get out of, even when
he knew that Relea could not hear it. Still, she mostly sat with a
view of her door so she would know when she had visitors. Pushing the
door open a bit, he smiled as he stuck his head inside and saw his
lovely betrothed.

A smile immediately sprang to her lips and she settled the hat she had
been stitching onto a stand so that her hands were freed. She rose
and drew closer to him, then paused as her eyes fell upon the item he
clutched in his hands. Her curiosity was piqued, but first she posed
a far more important question with graceful sweeps of those delicate
fingers. "You've returned. How was your trip?"

"Long." He replied verbally, knowing that she would read his lips.
Coran held up the package, "I brought this for you." He smiled,
signing with one hand that what he held was a gift.

"You didn't have to." Gifts were nice, but Relea found there were
other things she desired more. Still, she wouldn't insult him by
refusing. She accepted the package and unwrapped it. As she saw the
succulent fabric, her eyes widened. It shimmered and shown with every
slight motion of her body and it's hand was cool and smooth to the
touch. The deep teal reminded her of the river after a storm had
rushed away. "It's lovely." She sighed quickly. "Thank you."

Coran looked at the woman uncertainly for a moment before signing, "Is
it okay?" He had never picked out something like cloth before.

"It's more than 'okay'." Relea lifted her smile to him. "It's
lovely. Thank you." She wasn't sure what she would do with it. It
was far too opulent for a hat. Perhaps she could make a dress
suitable for Gathers and other events where fancy gowns were more
suitable.

"I am glad." The healer smiled, feeling relieved now that he knew the
gift was okay. It had been a lot simpler when he had been courting his
first wife because they had just been kids really, teenagers. As a
junior journeyman back then Coran had not been able to afford much and
often his gifts to his betrothed had been a simple bouquet of
handpicked flowers. "Let's take a walk through the garden."

"I would like that very much." Relea carefully set the fabric where
it would be out of the sun's rays. She'd brainstorm some ideas later.
She moved to her wardrobe and pulled out her coat, then let it
embrace her. "Let's go."

Coran offered Relea his arm as they left her quarters. The healer
always felt proud to have Relea on his arm whenever they went some
where, not matter what the rumors had said about her and his brother.
