Break Him

Writers: Chelle, Paula
Date Posted: 11th December 2013

Characters: Sarban, Aivorn
Description: The two of them talk about a runner issue.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 4, day 10 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Corowal, Reven, Zandan, Jenackt

"Good morning, Steward," Aivorn greeted, coming in to deliver his monthly report.

"Well met Aivorn. Come in and have some klah." Sarban scooted a few hides off his desk.
"Tell me, what are the few issues that I need to put my attention to first."

"Young Reven seems to be determined to compete with us in runner beast breeding," Aivorn
said with a wolfish grin. Like anyone could beat his blood lines.

"Aye well as his liege lord, Corowal gets first pick of any of his stock if he likes, so I
wouldn't be too concerned. And anyway, it's good to have good runnerflesh spread out over the territory.
Let the boy put himself into a worthwhile pursuit." Sarban was all for that. If Reven had a focus,
then he would keep working.

"Not to mention I have twenty Turns head start," Aivorn replied. "Anyways, someone's been
preying on our ovine flocks in High Hills," Aivorn moved to actually business.

"Someone or something? Have they been found dead or not at all?" That was a curious thing,
not that it didn't happen from time to time but usually between the shepherds and the canines,
they didn't lose too many.

"I'm not sure," Aivorn admitted, "I would like to take a couple of boys who know to hunt or maybe
one of Zandan's and go to investigate," he continued.

"Feel free. After that holdless...I'd rather not go through all that again or let those like him think
they can steal from the Hold and get away with it." Sarban frowned, gripping the edge of the
desk rather hard.

"And if it's a beast, I rather not have one preying that close to settlements," Aivorn replied with a
nod of understanding. Truth be told, he was more concerned about four legged hunters than two legged
ones.

"That too. Sometimes those felines are too smart for their own good. Especially when they get around
people." It was one of those things about living in the South.

Aivorn nodded. "Other than that, we're doing good. I have two mares expecting."

"Do we have any geldings that I can use as part of a trade deal with another Hold? There are some things
that I might be able to get from the coast, if so..." Sarban had put that on his list.
He knew the wood and some other things would be beneficial if he could set up
a package of things the other Hold wanted to exchange with.

"Aye. I have one who will be gelded soon and two others I've tried to sell for a while now,"
Aivorn replied. "One of them is difficult case, I'm not sure if he should
just put down," he shook his head sadly.

"Is it his temperament or?" Sarban knew there were other uses for good runnerflesh even if they weren't fit
for riding racing. It all depended on how vicious the animal was though.

"Aye, he just doesn't get along with anyone," Aivorn replied.

"I'd say put him on the timber wagons. It's not the greatest use for that kind of breeding but before too long it will
break him. He won't have any energy left to be vicious." That was true enough.

"He's not really built for that but I'll try. It would be waste to kill such a beautiful
animal, just because he doesn't learn to behave."

"It may not take very long if he's smart enough which is what we'd hope for." Sarban did think it
would be a shame but at least they were going to give him a chance.

"Yes," Aivorn agreed.

Switching gears, Sarban brought out the feed order and began to go over it. With luck, they could finish
before the midday meal and get the bread when it was fresh.
