Description: J'ren and Jaylene talk about her brother not wanting to Stand
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 11 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: J'zen, Jayonne, Jayzine
A familiar big bronze flew over tiny Reanth where she and her tired rider
stood in the surf. Only halfway through the morning and it was
insufferably hot. Jaylene moped her forehead as she watched Kenaranth land
beside them, the sun shinning off his light bronze hide. Even ash from Threadfall
couldn't hide what a beautiful dragon he was and she told J'ren so.
"Why thank you, I have to admit I think the same - though I am a bit
biased." J'ren grinned broadly as he pulled off his helmet, then shook
his head. Sweat scattered and he ran a hand through his wet hair. "Whoo,
hot today. I thought if the Thread didn't get me, the heat might."
"Which is why I didn't bother getting all my gear off before sitting down
in this sea," Jaylene teased, nodding to her wet leathers laying on the
beach. "They'll be stiff tomorrow." She pulled a face.
"Not only that, they might be ruined." J'ren clicked his tongue and shook
his head. "Not sure leather and salt water does so well. Of course, we do
sweat on it..." But still, saturating it like that..."Anyway, glad that's
over. I suppose I should strip and join you to cool down."
"Is that a promise?" She gave him her flirtiest grin. J'ren was a nice
man, she enjoyed his company.
"It wasn't, but I _could_ turn it into one." J'ren's grin matched that of
Jaylene's as he began to strip his shirt and rid himself of the material
that clung to him thanks to his sweat.
"I'd help you with those but y'know.." She nodded her head at the cooling
sea, not wanting for a moment to leave it, even if it was to strip a
handsome rider down. Her grin was mischievous though, and her large brown
eyes danced.
"I'm sure you'd be more than happy to help, but I think I'm okay for now."
J'ren's own expression matched the playfulness of Jaylene's. "Maybe you
can help me next time." The pants came next and then the bronzerider
stepped into the waves that licked at the shore.
"No maybe's about it." She splashed him as he got undressed and laughed
when Reanth got into the flirting, splashing a lot more water on the poor
man than Jay would have ever managed on her own. "Er...sorry!"
J'ren didn't mind. He let out a hearty left and attempted to splash the
dragon back. Unfortunately, his efforts were weak in comparison. "I'm
just no match for Reanth, I fear."
"Ha! Kudos for trying!"
"Can't stand up to a dragon I guess." J'ren grinned, then gave up to plop
down beside the greenrider. "I suggested Kenaranth get her back for me but
he refused."
"He's a gentleman." She smiled up at the bronze.
"More so than his rider, I suppose." J'ren snorted. "So how's Jayonne
these days? He still Standing?"
"Oh, he never Stood." Jaylene quirked her grin as an expression of how she
felt about that.
"I thought he did?" J'ren had paid more attention to those who had
Impressed tan those who hadn't. He reached up to stroke his chin. "Is he
not interested?"
"Nope. All that with our dad and brother, I think it scared him seeing how
mom was afterwards. He doesn't want to do that to her." Jaylene pulled a
face and looked down at the sand. "She still gets terrified during Falls
and has Jayonne come straight out to make sure J'zen and I are okay
afterwards."
"A shame. He's got the family history and it usually means a good
candidate to Impress." J'ren could understand that decision, though. "I
guess it won't matter. He's going to be too old soon, isn't he?"
"He will be, only a few months more." Jaylene shook her head in disappointment.
"He's leaving?"
"No, he'd better not!" Jaylene gave J'ren and odd look. "He'd be miserable
anywhere else in the south, being Weyr-raised and all y'know. no, I think
he'll just settle here and end up some old cranky violinist." She shook her
head at her brother's future before a mental stomach grumble caught her
attention. "Well, Reanth is saying she no longer cares how good looking
Kenaranth is, she's hungry. Catch you later?" She gave him a coy glance.
"Catch me if you can." J'ren grinned and waved.
