Tavia

"That's the last one for today," U'kaiah said with a long sigh. While
he was no stranger to stairs, he usually didn't climb them up and down
that many times in a whole sevenday! Looking at weyrs was hard work!
He reached for her hand as they walked down the corridor to yet another
set of stairs. "I'm glad we saved this one for last. It's not all that
far from my weyr. Just a flight of steps and a few doors down."

"Oh good," she said. She was weary and her muscles were tired. She
could tell from the burn in her legs. She gave a big yawn. The day had
been a long one for her with the time difference between the two
Weyrs. But pretty soon she'd be able to get used to Dragonsfall and
they wouldn't have to work so hard to spend an hour together here and
there.

She pushed open the door and could tell someone had lived here
recently. Sure the drudges had done some cleaning but there was still
a throw on the couch and hangings on the walls. "Oh I like this one."

"Good," he smiled, though his eyes also traveled over the signs of
recent occupation. Since the last Hatching, riders had been moving in,
but very few had moved out voluntarily. He wondered who had lived here.
He hoped they had not suffered. But one could not be sentimental in a
Weyr about these things. They all lived in spaces once occupied by long
dead riders. "I like the height of the ceiling. And it has real walls
around the sleeping rooms." He gave her a wink.

Tavia grinned back at him and walked toward the dragon couch. It did
seem just a little on the large size for Sawauth. Perhaps it had been
intended for a blue or just the ages of occupation had made the space
wider than originally carved. "This is nice," she said as she came
back inside. The temperature was certainly cooler than Dolphin Cove.
She stuck her head into a side room that could easily have been for
the child of the prior occupant. "I really like it," she turned back
to U'kaiah.

He smiled as he walked over to take a peek in the room. It was
certainly enough room for a baby. Maybe two? Turning back to the
larger room, he wrapped his arms around her middle from behind and
pulled her close. "What I like is that smile on your face."

She chuckled as she placed her own arms on his and leaned back against
him. "This will all work out, I just know it will," she said with
confidence. Best of all, she was beginning to believe it.

He liked hearing the words coming from her. The squeeze he gave her
communicated that fact to her. "So do I. I can just see Kaiavin
running around in this room, and you sitting on the sofa relaxing with a
good book."

She smiled and turned in his arms. Putting hers around his neck. "I'm
sure I won't be relaxing if he's running around. Probably not until
he's in bed." She was quite happy with the weyr and its amenities.
Even just being in the same time zone would be a wonderful change.

"I think this weyr will do."

"Or if he just happens to be away at his foster mothers," he agreed,
nuzzling her neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Shards, she
smelled wonderful. Or maybe it was just the image that was beginning to
grow in his mind of all the things they could do when alone in her new
weyr. It would do _very_ well...

She luxuriated in the tingles for a moment before she pushed at him
"U'kaiah, any one could come in and see us," she laughed.

He grinned back, if anything pulling her closer. "Let them come in.
Let them see. Let them all know that I love you." U'kaiah leaned in
for a heated kiss. This was a Weyr, not a Hold. They could all come
parading through that door, he didn't care. She was home, and he was
happy.

She returned his kiss with heat of her own but then pushed back one
more time. "This place isn't even clean yet and I don't want to play
in strange musty old furs. If your weyr is so close..." she let her
voice trail off suggestively.

U'kaiah's arms dropped resignedly. He had been feeling that old heat,
that old passion that had filled their first meetings, but it was
obvious she was not. There was a time when they had only to look at
each other, and they would have made it work. A wall, a spot of floor,
a sofa... They would kiss and caress all the way down the hall and not
even make it to his bed or a bathing pool before they tumbled naked into
each other's arms. He missed the spontaneity, the consuming heat, the
_fun_ of it all. Of course, he wouldn't trade the depth of their
feelings for anything. But there were times when he did long for the
simplicity of those days...

"We have to talk to the headwoman and reserve the weyr." Even his nice
clean bed furs would have to give way to more practical matters. The
last thing they needed was for the next couple to walk through the door
to beat them to it.

She could feel his disappointment and of course she felt her own
deflation when that happened. Maybe she was just taking all the moving
business too seriously. She usually let all those kinds of things just
roll off her back but this time it was far different. She wasn't just
changing weyrs, she was changing Weyrs. She wasn't quite sure he
realized just how traumatic it was to leave all her friends and family
behind but in her heart she knew it was the right choice.

"Alright," she said with a slight smile. She would just have to work
through this like everything else that seemed so stressful about this
move.

He held his hand out to her, no hurt feelings. If she wasn't feeling
it, she just wasn't feeling it. They'd find his sheets eventually he
was sure. Like they'd done before. "Come on then, lover. Let's make
it official."

She slipped her hand into his and her smile grew. "Official. I like
the sound of that." She also liked the way he said 'lover' but it
wouldn't do to let him know _everything_. A girl had to have some
mysteries after all.
