I Can Do Anything Better

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 1st September 2013

Characters: Rhosyn, J'ren
Description: The two of them have a very unlady-like contest in the Dining Cavern.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 20 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Reeva

Ever since the Hatching, it seemed her pregnancy was full swing.
Maybe it was just because she was now focused on her body and what it was
doing. Sitting there in the Dining Cavern at the head table, she looked over
the surface at J'ren as he ate. Then she popped a redfruit piece into her
mouth. Chewing, she swallowed and leaned back in her seat. When she did, a
small noise could be heard. Had it been the chair?

**Oh Faranth, stop it stomach. Stop it!** Her stomach felt like it was
full of gas. And every time she moved, it just escaped. Rhosyn
started to give secret looks, judging how far her escape route was.

"You look troubled, Weyrwoman." J'ren mused as he munched upon a
meatroll. "Meat - it's what's for dinner." He arched an eyebrow at the
woman, then set down the half roll that was left to spear at some
tubers. "What's bothering you?"

"My stomach is doing weird things." She tried not to wince, but she was
thinking maybe she'd have to go and see a healer to get something if this burning
didn't stop.

"Well that's no good."? J'ren picked up a sweet roll and bit into
it as he studied the Weyrwoman. "What sort of weird things?" He asked
after swallowing. "Is it morning sickness?"

"No...more like burning. Burning and pain." She didn't even mention the
rest. Rhosyn wasn't exactly ladylike, but that was embarrassing.

"Oh...that doesn't sound good." Any humor left quickly died away.
"Have you been to see the healers? You should get that checked out."

"No it's fine. Reeva says heartburn is frequent when you're pregnant.
So I suppose the rest probably just goes along with it. If it doesn't stop
soon I'll probably see if there's something I can drink." It didn't help
that she was craving that stuff with the spicy sauce all over it.

"Well I'm glad you saw a healer. You didn't ask when you did if there
was something you could do about it?" J'ren had to admit he was glad
men couldn't have babies, it sounded like a miserable time.

"Well no...I didn't have it then so... I'll be there shortly and maybe they
have something I can swallow." Sighing, she pushed back her plate and
when she moved, it just came out. Rhosyn burped loud enough for at least
the table to hear.

J'ren chuckled. "Not bad, Weyrwoman." He bobbed his head in a nod.
"But I'm afraid you're going to have to do better than that to beat
me." J'ren tapped his chest, sat up and stared. A moment later,
he opened his mouth and let out a nice long, loud burp. A grin
followed. "Think you can beat that?"

There was just a second where she skipped a beat. And then she smiled.
Appreciating that the bronzerider was putting her at ease rather than looking
at her as if she had three heads, Rhosyn stopped trying to hold it in and
just gave another one. It did hurt less when she did that.

"Oh nice one!? But you haven't gotten me beat yet." J'ren shifted and
then sat up straight again. A moment later, a burp escaped, longer,
louder, and just slightly deeper than his first. "Ha!? How about that?"

"Well I can't really do mine on demand like that..." Instead of burping,
she just experienced a surge of pain. Grimacing, she tried to drink down
some liquid instead.

"You all right?" J'ren leaned forward as he noted her expression.
"Maybe we should leave the burping contest for another time, eh?"

"Maybe so. I think it's going to be a quick trip to the healers for something
nasty to swallow for me." She got up and turned to go. "Thanks, though,
J'ren. And good luck with wingleading. You're doing fine so far I hear."

"Yeah. I suppose. Thanks." J'ren grinned and stood out of respect to
the Goldrider. "If you need someone to, you know, have a burp contest
with, just let me know."
