Ah, there he was. The Steward. Now there was a man who was worth
getting on his good side. If she could finagle her way into the Lord
Holder's bed, even better, but the Steward was a good one too.
A slow smile spread across her face. He wasn't half bad, either.
He'd certainly been eager, which always made for an interesting
evening. Sofeya twisted her hands around the handle of the broom, then
sashayed over to Wirnan before he could walk off. "Good day to you,
Steward." She greeted as her eyes flashed with mischief.
He turned at the greeting, then paused. Seeing her left him with that
strange feeling he'd had off and on lately. There was something in the
back of his mind that he couldn't quite recall. Pushing the strange
thought aside, he greeted her the way he would any other woman.
"Good day, Sofeya," Wirnan returned her greeting.
"I do hope you're feeling better and that...I was of some use in
cheering you up." Sofeya's teeth played at her lower lip and she cast
a sly glance at the Steward.
"Um," Wirnan started, giving her a look of confusion. "Cheering me up?
In the...um...." he cast his mind back to Turn's End. "Tavern." A
flash of an image seemed to zip across his mind. He was in her
quarters that night too. Why hadn't he remembered that? But what all
had happened there? He still couldn't grasp that image.
"And afterwards of course." Sofeya's twirled one of the ties of his
tunic around her finger. "I'm more than happy to...listen if you ever
need someone." Her voice became a purr and she lifted her chin as if
to draw the line of sight down toward her ample bosom.
"After..." he stated slowly as though thinking it would help him
recall what had happened. Her quarters. Drunk. He looked at the
suggestive gaze she sent his way. He wanted to groan, but instead
tried to plaster a smile on his face. He knew what the signs meant.
Something more had gone on._That_ was what had been niggling at the
back of his mind for so long. He felt badly, but yet he didn't. Kaya
had not satisfied him there, clearly he'd found that with Sofeya.
He looked at her, but found little true attraction. Yet, her body
still pulled at his instincts and needs.
"Thank you Sofeya. When I ...." he paused, cleared his throat and
leaned in closer, "need something, I will let you know." He hoped that
would satisfy her. It wasn't_her_ fault that he couldn't recall all
the details from Turn's End.
"I'm free tonight. If you need anything." Sofeya gently tugged on
that tie so it came half undone. "And I can focus my full attention
on you."
He tried to hide his frown. How was he going to tell her that what
happened was more of a mistake than anything. "Thank you Sofeya for
your offer. I, um, am busy tonight." For now he would just skim over
the details and hope that over time she would realize he wasn't
interested the way she was.
"Well I'll check in on you later. Just in case." Sofeya winked, gave
those ties one last twisted, then turned to move back to where she was
when she saw him, hips swaying from side to side. "You know where to
find me." She called back.
"Right, um, yes," he fumbled a bit with his words. When she made room
for him to exit, he turned to do just that.
At the end of the hallway a familiar figure stood. She had gone to do
their laundry and was now taking a basket of clean clothes back to the
quarters she shared with Wirnan. When Kaya heard voices, and his in
particular, she had stopped - and caught enough of the conversation to
get an inkling of something between them. When she saw Wirnan turn
and head in her direction, she quickly began to walk again and hoped
that he hadn't seen her.
He'd caught a glimpse of movement as he turned, but he hadn't been
able to place who or what he'd seen. Glancing back at Sofeya he gave
her a rather pained smile and tried to make his way away from her as
quickly as possible.
