Arippa or Faldrimme

Faldrimme

She was still acquainting herself with the Weyr. She ended up in a
space she hadn't been before. Planar, her chaperone was right behind
her. While she waited for the older woman to catch up, Faldrimme took
in the room that was clearly the healing chambers for the Weyr.

"Ok. So what can I do for *you*, m'dear?"

Reeva sounded faintly distracted, as she finished up with the document
she's been reading, but bright eyes subtly scanned the other woman for
obvious issues. At least nothing was hanging off.

"Oh hello," Faldrimme replied, "I kind of stumbled here by accident
actually. I'm still learning my way around all the tunnels. This is
the healer's area right?" She figured it was best to acquaint herself
with the area as she might be needing to visit it in the future.

Reeva flashed her mischievous grin.

"Beats stumbling in here *from* an accident. Considerably less effort
to clean up for us, too. Yes, this is. There's good Klah, but the
conversation tends to bore."

She waved a hand in invitation to the Klah jug she was, in fact, hoarding.

Faldrimme knew it wasn't polite to decline an invitation, at least not
where she was raised, so she entered further and filled a cup with
Klah.

"So, you are one of the healers here?" It was unusual for her to be
around so many female crafters. It was definitely an eye-opening
experience.

Reeva finally put aside her notes, satisfied, and produced a more
welcoming smile.

"Yes. Master Healer Reeva, at your service."

She said it neutrally, reserving opinion until she saw what response it raised.
"Oh!" Faldrimme replied. Her face shown with a hint of surprise and
interest. "You're a _Master_ Healer?" She paused then decided to share
her story. "I came here myself to try my hand at crafting. It's so
unfair that women can craft. What's it been like to work so many Turns
in your field?" She was curious if it would all truly be worth it in
the end if she continued.

"Yes, I am."

Reeva's smile had brightened a notch- at the question, at the
'welcome' the title had raised- but kept the rest of her face fairly
neutral in caution. Less caution *at* the curious girl, then caution
of sounding *too* happy. Both for the girl's sake and to avoid
accusations from an unimpressed father later, if he surfaced.

"An experience like no other. It took away almost everything, and yet
has brought more then I can describe."

With a touch of her dry, wry humour she added

"Its a funny old world."

Faldrimme smiled at her response. She knew it would be worth it if she
could just stick it out.

"I _want_ things to work out for me as well, but it's turning out to
be a lot harder than I expected." She knew that it would be hard work,
but she somehow imagined it wouldn't be quite as bad as it was.

"I love the field, but I'm worried that what I love isn't exactly what
learning the craft is all about." She wanted to be around the animals,
wanted to train them, care for them, but there was so much more to
starting this apprenticeship than she'd imagined. It didn't help that
she was also missing the life she had left behind as well.

Reeva wasn't going to spill her heart to a stranger, but she was an
open woman and her words were honest, and encouraging in their own way.

"Expect it to be even harder. Crafting- learning hard, being under
those to whom you are just another new face yet to be tested, finding
out where your place is going to be- is hard enough, even for the
lads. And then, of course, society's gone and made it harder still for
us, well, us Holdbred at least. And you are only human- you are going
to miss what you used to have, and you are going to wish you had it
all, and you are- or at least if you are anywhere near as stubborn as
me, you are- going to want to lash out at the people who won't let you
have what you know you could and take away from you what you want. If
its the right field for you, though, you'll find out why its worth
it."

To the rest of the girl's words, she gave a short nod.

"That can be difficult. Have you no one in the craft you can talk it
over with? Most of us will blab happily if given an opening."

She listened to the older woman's words and nodded. What she said was
true already. She wanted this, but she wanted her old life too. It was
difficult no matter what she chose. She was so torn up inside she had
no idea what path she was supposed to walk at the moment.

"Sort of, but he's not here. My father was in this craft. I helped him
from time to time, but we never discussed the details of the training
since there was little point to it at the Hold." She mused over who
else she could talk to about this. Perhaps some of the others here
would give her more guidance as she went. Right now they were friendly
enough, but didn't really seem all that eager to help as they were
busy with their own studies.

"Oh, I see." Or she thought she did. She wondered how much her father actually
approved of his daughter's choices. She really had been lucky, back in
her day, with her husband. In more than just the craft sense.

Her smile was rueful, but she didn't explain it.

"I'd volunteer my own dear brat, since he rarely shuts up about
crafting, but alas, he followed his mother into the realm of healing.
All the same, any general help you need, I'd be happy to try and
answer?"

"Thank you," Faldrimme replied. "I appreciate that and will let you
know if I need anything. I'm sure I'll have questions along the way."

Reeva's small nod acknowledged her words. "And good luck, of course."
